This guy should have been shot at about 20 seconds into the video. "Put the gun down" was ignored 3 times and he actually enters the video frame with his gun pointed at the officer. That is good enough to stop his threat... his death would have been his own choice. Cops are paid to take risks where they MIGHT be maimed and killed... Officer was a soldier, he understood the guy with the gun was trying to 'suicide by cop' and didn't want to give in to it. Its unfortunate he lost his eye, but good he survived. No matter the training life plays strange games on us all and you never know how things are going to turn out.

I don't understand why many officers feel inclined to use dialogue repeatedly with an armed suspect who refuses to comply. The second he observed police officers in the area, it should've been his qeue to disarm. I think officers were even more justified to use lethal force when the suspect assumed a shooting posture. Officer was a soldier, he understood the guy with the gun was trying to 'suicide by cop' and didn't want to give in to it. Its unfortunate he lost his eye, but good he survived. No matter the training life plays strange games on us all and you never know how things are going to turn out.

As once a police officer myself know that this officer was brave for attempting to talk the suspect down. The officer knew that there were innocent bystanders around as well as inside the buildings behind the suspect. The officer put the bystanders first by doing such and trying to keep from having to use deadly force and risking the lives of them. The officer was shot, and the other officers took care of the rest. Im hoping the officer makes a full recovery! God bless all who were involved!!

I don't understand why many officers feel inclined to use dialogue repeatedly with an armed suspect who refuses to comply. The second he observed police officers in the area, it should've been his qeue to disarm. I think officers were even more justified to use lethal force when the suspect assumed a shooting posture. God Bless Sergeant Kelemen. If one listens they can plainly hear him telling dispatch to have the citizens in the store to get away from the window. He could not shoot, he risked injuring or killing innocent people. He did an amazing job. Amazing.
