The epitome of remixes. Pete Rock. E.P.M.D & LLCOOLJ. "How can a brotha be so nice". ..................."I'll shoot the holster off ya cowboy pants". "I got rhymes up the huh, forget it I'm constipated. "Get loose& kick like Bruce in a rage, I'm on a rampage"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Both versions of this track are kick ass, each version has its own vibe though.
Im feelin' the kinda mellowed out yet hectic vibe pete added to this track....LL, erick and parrish seem to ride the beat a lil better on this version too.
"Da ripper, da master, the over lordian play'n mc's lik a old accordian. Classic LL coo J. That boy was something else back in his day. This was before the sex symbol bit. That's what fuc'd LL. Hip Hop was never sexy. It was calm cool and collective but never shirt off sexy. That shit went to far. Now look @ things. Every chance a mo'fo get they bustin' out of the fuckin' shirt. Then back to thuggin' . Confused!!!!
EhYo, to me, LL's verse on Rampage was the illest shyt he ever spit! "majoe MC's become minor B flats, so retire the mic, get your chains and your bats. Here's your chance to advance, get in your stance, I'll shoot the holster off your cowboys pants......."
nah... somebody had to set the song off right... erick woulda sounded SUPER-lazy if his part came first. he didn't even sound like his heart was in it that day, lol.
I thought I'd heard every Pete Rock remix ever made in the 90's, but this one got past me! Can't say I like it as much as I do most of his other remixes, but it's not bad - especially LL's verse! Slow down, baby!!!
this pete rock remix kicked it all off for him. it was released during late spring '91 (way before his shut em down remix he did for p.e. which came out late winter '91). it's another remix he did for rampage that was on the same 12" with this that's ill too. the 45 king threw the horns in the trash and pete picked em up and dusted them off and ran with them for 4 or 5 years and forced other producers to follow.
80's started it but 90's perfected it....never been the same since...
