Thanks for another great song by Annette. I have watched the 10 segments of "Sita Sings the Blues" on YouTube. It is something else. And of course, it has about eleven songs by Annette. Who could ask for anything more. Nina Paley did a fantastic job in making this movie.
Have you seen the animated film, 'Sita Sings the Blues?" The entire film is now on Youtube in a series of episodes. My friend Nina Paley was the creator. It's a bizarre retelling of a very famous Hindu epic, with music by Annette Hanshaw! Paley broke up with a fiance who was an animator living in India. She got interested in the music of Hanshaw, and this song was what inspired the film! Roger Ebert has raved about this film, and you'll enjoy it, too!
pax41: I decided to watch it through this afternoon. "Mean to Me" comes up in episode 7. Be sure to watch in HD; the graphics are amazing! If you go straight to episode 7, you won't understand the story line, but that's not important - what is, is to see the glorious animation work!
The first song I heard from Hanshaw was "Daddy wont you please come home?" :)

I adore this song! It's pretty much great. This was the first song I had heard by Annette Hanshaw and I loved it. Thank you for sharing.

I wonder how Annette would sing the Star Spangled Banner? I'm trying to hear it...need to increase the tempo first...

This guy she's singing about must have been the original jerk ]: Annette you poor girl.

Annette Hanshaw's voice is certainly different; her singing sounds sophisticated and urbane somehow...

I love that little ending she used. The only other thing that was similiar was "Lopez Speaking"
