Just saw this and im wishing I was there.I was born in 92 in a suburb turned ghetto Cicero Illinois.Someone needs to upload tracks from these bands especialy anti pacman.
I remember one Naked raygun show where the lead singer threw his Mic up over this beam and started swinging out over the audience...it was awesome till the mike broke and he fell about 15 feet down to the dance floor...being the sensitive guy I am...I laughed my ass off...the bandmates just kind of looked on in horror and did the 123 garbage can ending thing...they were p.o.'d and wanted to fight but we laughed at that too...the lead was ok...just a concussion
@Achtungmiche It's in distribution! It has been shown in movie theaters (mostly Chicago.) Look to AMAZON.COM and some of the other outlets. As for maddysane, please buy it, it cost real money and time to make it. It was made by my sister and her husband!
Ahhhh... yes. That is "Guns on the Right" by DV8. Great song. There is a problem. They only released one single. That was it. I don't believe I have the B-side.
They might be on the Oz compilation... I cannot rightly recall.
wow i have a lot of this music but i was never around to see most of these bands... the only one basically being Naked Raygun which is the greatest band ever... anyone know where id be able to see this whole thing
!Viva McGregors! You know, it was a decade+ later, post golden era punk rock and roll, but back in the early 1990s, us Chicago/Suburban Chicago kids really embraced the great music of the time and of the past. We had our own scene, as feeble as it may seem in retrospect. I am proud of that time in my life.
Hey, I'm in one of the stills with everyone dancing. I see Joe Brill in there and Dave Hill and the girl from Gabba Gabba Gazette. Three pics later, that's Punky biting a Jam album.
I know this type of question will seem repetitive but I was just wondering what Articles of Faith song is playing during their little section, and also what song is playing at 1:15 to 1:22?
No I wasn't there. I never lived in Chicago... but I did see a few of these bands around the time this footage was shot. This looks very cool, looking forward to seeing it. Effigies are still a great band.
I'm surprised you didn't mention big black. Do you have a vid of the middle of america record release party? I hope thats in the film. Steve Albini blew off a brick of firecrackers right in my face at that one.
I was there at COD until it burned down. The Effigies haunted town LP was the best. I rem NAked Raygun having only five songs so they would do bomb shelter twice in a set. Obanions, club 950 were good too.
Ummmm. "Below The Drop" by The Effigies. "I Lie" by Naked Raygun. "Elephant's Graveyard" by Strike Under. And then I am unsure. I wish I knew that song by the band after Articles of Faith.
this looks awesome. I'm a long-time fan of Chicago punk and hardcore and I'm glad some of those bands made it to Boston or the area--Articles of Faith, Effigies, even Life Sentence (Hi Joe!)
Check out the video of my old CHICAGO Ramones-core band here on You Tube. Just type in "The Carry Outs" in the You Tube search and the video will come up!
The Carry Outs, (1996-2000) Chicago High School Punk Rock Legends, well, kinda, sorta, whatever.
I have been wracking my brain to find out who the last bands in the video are. Who's song is playing after Articles of Faith? When it says 'and many others'. Catchy song. And, while we're on the subject, can anyone identify the songs after that?
May you live to be one thousand years old! God bless you. My first born is yours. Will this film have footage of Mentally Ill, Silver Abuse, DA, Bhopal Stiffs, Anti-Bodies, Epicycle, Negative Element? Can't wait!
I CANNOT WAIT until this comes out! Chicago represented! And truthfully! Not stupid gang bullshit, but a culture as vital and... just fucking... WOW as anyone else!
American Hardcore certainly skimped on the Chicago details. But why do they ALWAYS stop at 84??? ALWAYS! Amer. Hardcore, Burning Britain, the Day the Country Died... What ever happened to punk past 84?
Remember "Pukey"? She was the one that would bring a dead rat to the bar with her and everyone would run. She got kicked out because people got sick of the rat situation.
We also had Ska Fish....do you remember him? I loved him because he would bring a Barbie Doll case with dolls from the 60's all punked up.
I hung out with "Little Boy". He lived on Aster with his dad. He held indoor pool parties at his home.
OMG, omg, omg, like omg, I want a copy of this immediatly! Gabba gabba hey gabba hi!
Anyone go to the parties at the Kennedy's? We called them Ironing Board parties where we would pass around a flyer with LSD directions on them. Not the drug! Most of us were doing ??? nitrate on the dance floor? The pogo, the stroke, slam dancing.
Vipers???? Do you remember the guy that dressed up as a christmas tree at halloween and plugged himself in. He had someone put presents under the tree and they threw tinsel on it. Damn, that was the best costume that I have ever seen in my life. He won the trip to CBGB's.
i definitely want a copy of this, i was there for a lot of that & want to buy a few copies just so i can show people how cool & different Chicago punk is from anyone else's version of the genre. By the way, the yo,yo,yo bit was Rights of the Accused. They were awesome too.
We are in the editing stages right now. We will be doing showings in Chicago hopefully in late July or August. The DVD will probably be released in the fall.
Oh YEAH! After being a bit gutted by American Hardcore, I'm looking forward to THIS! I remember lots of Husker DU/AOF shows at Cubby Bear! Or Effigies with DKs at COD? Great memories. Big Blue rules!
Yeah I know I wasn't there, but I was only 6 in 1977! Still caught the tail end. Started going to shows in 84 and there was still life in the scene through 85. And what about Pegboy!
Between "American Hardcore" and this film. I'd rather see the latter. It's good to finally see someone cover the scenes between the coasts, especially since as my name suggest I am from the heartland.
got lost cause and life sentence mixed up, gotta be LS near the very end...too bad i doubt Certain Death are in there, so neglected, so overlooked (presumed metal by most cause of the name)
wow...a must see for me, been in and out of the chicago music scene since 83, even heard a snippet of the infamous lost cause in there. and yes chicago punk ruled (still does compared to whats been done since).
