I don't know why people swear Joan and Bette were out to get each other. They never trash talk one another in interviews, and they got along pretty well on Baby jane. They weren't best friends but they weren't enemies.

To be honest Bette did say some very unkind words about Joan (the comment that she had slept with everyone in Hollywood except Lassie and the one about her being Hollywood's first case of syphilis) Joan never stooped quite so low. Joan may not have come from the reasonably privileged background that Bette had...but she became a real lady.

I can't believe she said her kids were drop-outs. She didn't answer the question about Aldrich, the question was "how was he as a director", she wasn't asked to reveal his inner-most weaknesses. She just talks too much, but as I said, I don't expect her to be perfect, that's ok, and it's a fun interview in overall, she has a good sense of humor.
