What a strange match, but it helped both parties & went about as far as it could...! Recognition for Stevie from a big name, & a big kick of guitar talent for Bowie from the emerging master!
@curlys8up Bowie didn't help Stevie in any way. The fact that he played on Bowie's album draw attention after Stevie's debut album was released to great acclaim. The man that really helped Stevie was Jackson Browne
When SRV was on Arsenio Hall's TV show in the 90's, the first thing he mentioned was, "You played guitar on Bowie's Let's Dance." SRV didn't smile, as I recall -- he just said yep and explained he had the authentic blues sound Bowie was looking for on it. Bowie helped out Frampton, his childhood friend, years later with a job, when Frampton was forgotten.
If you watch the end of the video you'll see Bowie doing an air guitar over Stevie's solo. I read that the first time Stevie saw the video he was so pissed that he decided to drop out of Bowie's tour
great guitar players are a dime a dozen, & if you REALLY wanna get down to it, srv was a very good jimi/albert king clone, whereas bowie was an artist & a songwriter, a VERY good & ORIGINAL one, & they're a MUCH rarer breed. & without him, NO ONE would have ever heard of srv, 'cause stevie certainly wasn't much to write home about in the songwriting dept. have a little perspective...
@CletusColtrane didn't say he was a bad songwriter, but that really wasn't his forte, & he certainly bring anything new or groundbreaking to the equation on that count. i like his songs, but they didn't make my head spin or anything. bowie, on the other hand, IS a songwriter, a PROLIFIC one, & an explorer where it came to mixing mediums, & lyrically, well, there's just NO comparison...
@badmuddy btw, i heard YOUR output (hehehehe...); yer kidding, right? THAT is what you have to offer? & your too dickless to even put it up for rating. do you even KNOW what the word ignorant means? you're an idiot, & a JOKE as a player/performer/writer (yeah right...)...
You know nothing about the blues, that's the point, stick to your glam rock crap......Go listen to Mott the Hoople or something, Bowie, lol......fruit
And don't forget SRV actually is a musican, he plays an insturment, writes, and sings. You obviously aren't any type of musician. You can't compare a non-musician to a musician, well you can, because you are clueless, lol
@badmuddy I was born too late to witness the “groundbreaking artistry” of Ziggy Stardust and when I watch his stage escapades now I find them entertaining. But that image couldn’t last forever, could it? It got worn out. So Bowie indulged in pop. Stevie's Blues on the other hand is eternal. No need of groundbreaking changes. Just virtuoso technique, truckloads of passion and commitment, magic to the point of hypnotic presence and there it is, the "vaughanesque” Blues scene; even 21 years later
I don't blame SRV for not touring with him. Bowie was the master in the 70's, the majority of his catalog up to Let's Dance is when he started to slide off. Without SRV, Let's Dance would have sucked
I had to check this out simply because the original David Bowie 80s, Let's Dance, was an absolute favorite of mine. I ALWAYS requested it in the clubs. Not that I had to as there was no doubt that song would definitely be on any DJs roster. Honestly, I still 'gotta go with the original being the Best!!! An original is oftentimes difficult to surpass. Thanks for the post.
@northvilletunnels and what paycheck would you be referring too. If you mean for recording, it's nothing him and plenty of other legends havn't done. However when it came time to tour, bowie said he couldn't talk about his music, and Stevie told him to go find another guitar player.
ive never heard this version before badd ass rip srv

I`m very happy that Stevie Ray Vaughan turn down David Bowie`s offer to tour with him.
Stevie would only get 200 dollars pr show during the tour.
David Bowie was pissed tho lol.
