you will not understand sense of body modifications if you do not undergo those feelings and emotions. its not just like fucking crippling our bodies. its even hard to describe. you may say its disgusting, terrible, fucked up, sick etc. and that's one of my arguments why i think this is a real art. coz most of people, average people, can't perceive beauty of bme.
why do americans act like having scarification/branding without aenasthetic like its a huge deal? in england you don't even have the option. its no bid whoop people!
if you don't see this as art then you've missed the point of it. try listening to what the artists say and open up your mind, you just might learn something.

I'm generally open minded about art but i feel that this is possibly just another way to shock people. I feel that we're reaching a time where its thought everything has been done already so why not repeat something which is very shocking to the modern world.
More sterile than the average British hospital I should think, where thousands are dying each year from MRSA and Clostridium difficile. It's far easier to control a home environment than a filthy hospital full of ill people. I did cringe at the procedure though; not so much as it was happening but a thousand times whilst editing the film. Ouch.
i love this documentary, its enspired me to make my art on the human body and torture, also plan to make my own video in where i film people being suspended, cant wait
My gods are Ron Athey and Frank O for many years now...as well as list of others who are individually realistic and in control of their own vehicles (bodies)...I don't expect many to understand something so beautiful...and genius...most people don't even understand the simple basics of humanity never mind intense freedom with one's own body...and soul...so sad we are...learn from these genius's or shut up and adjust your saftey blinders.

Isn't this video just made to provocate... When it comes to art I'm really openminded but this is not a reason for some people to abuse of it and a) consider that the most shoking it is the most arty it is and
b) to play with the moral limits of the audiance consedering that "I'm the artist, you small litlle audience, try to understand me!
I made the film because I was asked to by the broadcaster and I tried to make it as intelligently as possible. People do this stuff and they call it art so I wanted to understand why without judging them. There is a long tradition of artists testing moral limits and this kind of work is just part of that process.
How do you define harm? None of the practices shown in the film resulted in any long term damage, except if you class all cosmetic surgery as damaging, which you may do. Would you call someone who has a nose job or breast reduction a "sick individual" in the same way? If you would then I think you have a point but if you wouldn't then you are missing the point.
Their bodies = their choice. I hate it and I have the right to hate it. They love it and they have the right to love it. The end.

Take it easy though, the artists I filmed were all very careful not to cause any infections or permanent damage.
