"Fleeing to America from the English" People will read into a song what they will but it is worth knowing the origins. The song was written by an Englishman (Ralph MacTell who's most fmaous song is Streets of London) and it was inspired by an Irish friend he had when working on a building site. There "here" in the song is actually England and not America.
@karmapeach You posted this at the wrong time, I very much beg to differ, I saw them tonight with Davey Arthur in the Beck Theatre in Hayes, London. They were out of this World. Eddie is one of the nicest musicians I've ever spoke to, and their rendition of the Lonesome boatman blew me away.
@mike5012tx You are right, when slowed it become to slow, for such a great song, it would seem, it can never be done right, maybe it's the subject matter that removes our hub caps?
was end of last year i saw them in Hastings. he was just a normal guy and funny. i drank with him and Paul when he played with The Buskers in the 80s. go and see them if you get the chance.

I like this version, but perhaps just a little slower would suit. Am planning to do version of my own soon.

My favourite one is the whistling gupsy rover, is it possible to upload that one, like you did in your previous live on you tube.
