I was in Walkinstown today and I couldn't help but notice that Alfie Vize still has the exact same giant spectacles sign hanging above his optician's shop as he did back then.
I do not think we should be talking about ourselves as celts/irish. There are large populations of new irish africans, muslims, asians, indians, arabs, chinese and all manner of wonderful colourful exciting people....their cultures are far more peaceful than the old european violent cultures. So stop the hating and racism....the new brown superRace Mixx is here!!!!! peace out.....
Not a big football fan either but how could ya not be hyped up by that n get involved its great for people of all ages to come together as 1 n have a ball.roll on the next 1.ole ole ole ole lol.
Brilliant! I was living in London by then so missed all the craic at home. Had I been at home I would have watched the game in the Laurels, at the other end of St.Peter's Road, I watched all the quali's there.....
lol you would know this was 1990 the girls wearing them bagging arse jeans with white shirts tucked into them, and the state of the cars ! opel kadetts
@clydebear I remember that day well... there was hardly and traffic on the roads. Most people were in bars watching the match. I had to walk to three bars before getting into one as they were all full...
Nostalgia at its best!! They just would NOT allow this in todays fucking health and safety mad Ireland, gone are the good old days, I was 7 when this was on, just wish I had been old enough to go on the lash at a roundabout..
this is great, i live in one of the houses just off the roundabout, and cant believe that spar was there in 1990....everything looks so differant, pity the kestrel wasnt still open :(
thats class as already siad ireland will never be the same again! to much missery here now with the reccesion green nerds ect.. this country has become to safety upsessed as well! hence speed camera vans everywere
dull boring cars with 20 airbags in only 3 colours grey black and white! people could smoke in pubs they could have a couple of pints and drive home ect.. and thats why this country is so dull know! if that lad had done the same with the ladder today he would be locked up!
fairplay for uploading u've just put a massive smile on my face!! great to see such positivity and remember it was recession times then too but people knew how to enjoy themselves!!
Magic memories!! It's emotional remembering that day, we were all broke as a joke and it was an absolutely fantastic time - everyone in walkinstown knew each other, it was a different world then! Thanks for bringing it all back.
Best video I've seen in a while. Love the old sierra Garda car, the old jerseys, luminous shorts and the fact that a video camera was so rare that everyone reacts to it!! Brilliant!!
@kevinjryan true, The camera was a shoulder mounted Sony. Looked more like a TV cam. Pity about my cam skills at the time. :D It was the first time to use it.
I'll check that. I could have sworn I met him in the Spar to return bad oranges. I remember this cheeky guy like him who told me to thrown them back and take new ones.
Ha ha, brilliant!

I think Michael O'Leary (Ryan Air) was manager of the spar beside the cherry tree around that time.
Daithi333 4 months ago
@Daithi333 nope O'Leary was the manager of a small newsagents called kilcullens on the other side of the roundabout!
WeAreShels1 4 months ago
@Daithi333 he owned Desmonds for a while, it was beside the Kestral, you can see it 1:25 in this video
