what happens to the sentence if you make "arimasu" past tense ("arimashita")? or would that just be grammatically incorrect? Also, can "arimasu" be substituted with another verb? if so, what sort of verbs would be ok to subsitute, and how would that change the meaning? For example, what if I substitute "arimasu" with "dekimasu"? what would the sentence mean then? and can you use any other form other than the "ta" form of the verb? how would that change things? or is that grammatically incorrect?
can u make a video on how to use ga, ka no, de, wa, etc. something like that.. sorry but its confusing me.... i dont know how to use it in a sentence.... arigato, nice video gambatte!
Thank you Dante. It's my pleasure really! Yes, I will work on making longer dialogues. I think it's a good way to let you all test your listening comprehension. Your suggestions are always indispensable! Thank you again :D
The reason I do that in all my lessons is because I take into account that many of my students may have difficulties when it comes to pronouncing certain words. When I started out I too had difficulties pronouncing certain words,it's only natural. Now, although the words are written in romaji, that is not a clear indicator of how to pronounce the word, therefore I pronounce the word syllable by syllable. Having the romaji onscreen helps my listeners follow along.
@kitzibu Isn't it to break down the pronunciation of words so we can check if we are hearing and saying them correctly?
Romaji only approximate Japanese sounds and can be seriously confusing if you don't know the details of Japanese phonology. Reading words in Romaji alone wont guarantee you will pronounce them correctly.
really cook leason. thank you so much! I love learning about this stuff. ummm how long have you studied Japanese? and when did you get past the basics?
I have studied Japanese for about 3 years, on and off. The first year I just focused on learning vocabulary here and there as well as some basic greetings. The second year of learning is when I decided to pick up the pace by diving into grammar, and last year I have gone full throttle hehe. I would say I got past the basic level the second year, but then again that all depends on your pace and how much time you can commit to studying.
@almostgrwn It is definitely possible to get past the basics the first year! You just gotta dive into everything Japanese. I recommend watching Japanese dramas and listening to Japanese music, this will increase the speed at which you memorize things dramatically! Just remember to have patience and to keep up the pace.
Thank you for tuning in, and as always I appreciate the feedback!
@CatwomanJolie Awesome recommendations. Seems like a lot of people that speak Japanese recommend doing that. I think it works too. Great lesson as always. Thanks again for everything! Ja-mata!
I'm glad to be able to guide you all. Yes,it's true. There is nothing better than diving into everything Japanese. Since most of us live in the states it is hard for us to have access to speaking to a native Japanese person, therefore we must take advantage of anything we can get our hands on in order to learn the language. There is one cartoon called 'sazae san' which is a great resource for practicing your listening comprehension. I will provide the link to that cartoon.
This cartoon has been around for I think more than 50 years in Japan. It is a Japanese favorite. Watching these videos will help you a great deal especially since you can get the gist of what is being said from just listening to their tones and watching their facial expressions. Hope this helps!
ah, I can't put the link on here :/ Youtube won't let me,but type in 'sazae san' and the cartoon will come up, or you can search using these characters サザエさん
