This game was so fucking fun. I remember it came with my MGS3 special edition pack, I had no idea the original games were just called Metal Gear. After playing both the first and second, I realized quickly I grew up in the wrong timeline as a kid...Really wish these games were out when I was younger instead of the MGS series!
@landonmc98 google search "Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake English Translation Rom" and click the 2nd link of the results, when your in there, scroll down when you see ".DSK IMAGE" or ".ROM IMAGE" but i prefer .ROM image, i hope that will help you cause i just got that too
It's a little sad to see that no one really knows the awesome beginnings of the metal gear solid series. I love the whole series but I think this game definitely gave the MGS series a big step towards its current fame today. These games need to be remade in all ps3 glories or something.
Kojima is either going to make a remake or one of our die hard fans will grow up to be a game designer and make one themselves and will be respected by Kojima for doing it.
i wish they would be remade but greatly expanded to the level of MGS1 style and graphics (not blocky and jaggy, obviously, but just 3D with that camera and its 'corner view' angles). And maybe with a little bit of MGS2's slight changes of camera angles at certain places.
@gmobb142 I played MG2 when it was released with the MGS3: Subsitance pack. I noticed lots of theme that traveled over the third game. Even though it has a different storyline, MGS is more or less a remake of this game.
This is the intro to Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake. This was captured from the original MSX2 version using the blueMSX emulator, which is the best MSX emulator around. If you want perfect MSX emulation blueMSX is the way to go.
That Japanese guy completely stole John Carpenter's "escape from new york" for any disbelievers go watch the movie again. And realize the fact that it was made long before this game came out! By the way, best game intro for the Nes was this game.
Ah.... ever heard of an homage. Kojima is a fan of the film. This game wasn't on the NES. I think you're confusing this game, Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake with Snake's Revenge: Metal Gear 2. The latter did appear on the NES but is not a part of the main series.
I can see making something based off of "escape from new york" but not copy all the characters and the plot and the images. The scary thing is he completely ripped off everything from the movie. Every time i hear some kid say "oh they should make a metal gear movie" I'll tell them "just go rent escape from new york"
Copy all the characters? Snake was a pastiche of various movie action heroes, not just Snake Plisskin. And how is a plot of a rookie agent infiltrating a fortified state to rescue a comrade and destroy an objective the same as a legendary former merc being blackmailed to save the president from some gang?

@ArsenalSPT actually there is more. Rambo (the bandana) James Bond (Tux and other espionage styles) The Great Escape (the idea of sneaking around) But i do agree with you when it comes to the plot of the games and Solid SNake. Yup all from Escape From New York.
@SagginWillies He did that because he is a huge fan of cinema. He dedicated his life watching amazing movies Like Escape from New York and The Terminator. With all the movies he has watched in the 1980's,he use some of their elements and created the MGS series. It's kinda smart don't you think?

This is one of the best Metal Gear games period. It established many of the norms for the game. It had awesome music, fun gameplay, appropriate difficulty, interesting puzzles - this game was everything that a true sequal to the first Metal Gear should have been. I actually have it loaded and playing on an MSX emulator this moment.
I noticed the PS2 disc is not exact, but close enough. I wish they kept the original sound effects (they are slightly but noticeably different), text font, and character screens on the codec/radio. The PS2 versions have faster music, but I don't mind that.
The swamp part ruined the game for me in many ways. I understand that they were trying to be creative but in the end they only achieved to frustrate me and many other gamers.
its when your adavanceing on ocelots camp in act 1 after the bnbs destroy the militamen you sneak past the two guards on patrol then theres a guy walking around some sandbags (all this is before the 3 guards near the jeep) theres some rooms behind the far back wall where the sandbag guy is its there (note this is also a grest way to sneak into the camp as if you go up the stairs it drops down into the locker room where the M4 SUP is)
and what makes it worse is that this game was only released in japan, and we had to wait until roms and msx emulation was good enough to play the fan translated version. luckily, most systems from the mid-90s and earlier run like a calculator on most PCs today (in terms of technical capability)
A remake of Metal Gear would be cool. But I don't know if a remake of Metal Gear 2 would be a good idea. Seeing how the layout in the game is similar to Metal Gear Solid.

If your talking chronological order of the series; MGS3 is 1, Portable Ops is 2, MG is 3, MG 2 Solid Snake is 4, MGS is 5, MGS2 is 6 and MGS4 is 7. Snakes Revenge is non-canonical and unrelated to the actual storyline, it's a different universe altogether.

Man, I love the music from this game. It's so great!
Now I feel like playing MG2 again.

I love MGS3. I've always been interested in BigBoss. There are things about him, I don't know, that are similar to what I've been through.
Never played a game so often.

My favorite tune in this game was the one you hear in the tank hanger just after killing the Black Ninja, the resistence leader from MG1.
