Healers are wonderful dogs, but only for owners who understand the commitment involved in keeping and caring for this breed. They're very energetic, extremely intelligent, always on the look out, and need high and frequent amounts of stimulus and companionship. If one can't fulfill all of their needs - particularly the stimulus and companionship, one should not consider this or similar working dogs.
@tobyboy1 They've got to be a tough breed to adopt as adults too. They are SO loyal that I'd imagine it would be hard to get one to switch allegiances.
@TwinMountain we adopted our ACD Bishop at 2 y.o. and he's the best dog ever, just as loyal to me as to his momma...I pity the fool who would ever 'threaten' either of us! :0
@oneirishpoet They'd be a great dog if they were all like yours but most aren't. Mine LOVED me but would nip my wife if he thought she was getting too close to me. Raised him from a pup too but I guess it's was me who paid him all the attention.
@TwinMountain Bishop can get kind of 'nippy' too, especially when he gets excited, and he can be pretty aggressive with other dogs...he does kind of favor his momma but he also knows that I'm the one who takes him for the long walks in the woods that he loves so much (plus all the treats I give him!) We found a little farm close to us where the lady trains cow dogs and other herding breeds and that has helped a lot, it's so cool to see his natural herding instincts in action!
You guys are doing an amazing job! Thank you so much for the work that you do with these beautiful babies. You wouldn't find a more loyal dog than an ACD, so heart breaking to think that their former owners couldn't show them the same loyalty and love. Thank you again guys, you truly are angels.
i have had a lot of dogs, truly this is the smartest dog i have ever seen+best personality. it is sad people don't want to have this breed, they think these are not good looking dogs.
@BLOODYCLQ they are the prettiest dogs I've ever seen . My Sally (8 months) has Rat feet in back and monkey paws in front, almost the biggest test I've ever taken on, but I can tell she will guide me before it is over. Only 2 more years before she stops eating 2x4's. She wrapped Daddy's heart around her little Energizer self.Would not trade the experience for anything. only way I can exhaust her is throw tennis ball in lake like 30 times, then she rests for 5 min's & is ready to go again
I adopted a 4 month old Blue Heeler from Bonnie Hays animal shelter in Hillsboro, Oregon a year ago this month. He is a sweet dog and a great buddy thats goes everywhere with me.
Just curious whats the story on the Lilly dog. (Red Heeler?) Looks identical to my dog sadie who is a red heeler. Please e-mail me sharpattack@yahoo.com thanks

I have a 7 year old heeler. Love her so much. Got a baby recently. He is 2 months. ADORABLE, but so much work. BUT I love the breed.

If anyone truly understands the essence of the relationship between man and dog then they'd know that the ACD is the ultimate dog in that regard.

Beautiful dogs!!! I adopted an ACD- tough going at first but with training, this dog is brilliant and my best friend. LOVES agility and is a CGC!!!!
