Wonderful music. Anatolina Rums were our brothers and sisters until mainland Yunans interfered. Unfortunately Anatolian Rums suffered the most during the exchange.. they were even rejected by their mainland conterparts for not being "Greek enough" after their exodus from Anatolia. I dont think that the greek rebetiko is identical to the turkish music...maybe some melodies, but the "function" (lyrics, environment of singing, feeling) was much different, turks were too conservative in order to sing about this thematology. Besides it is quite under question if turkish music was really turkish...

Wonderful music. Anatolina Rums were our brothers and sisters until mainland Yunans interfered. Unfortunately Anatolian Rums suffered the most during the exchange.. they were even rejected by their mainland conterparts for not being "Greek enough" after their exodus from Anatolia. Türk Hristiyan olmaz mı? Gagavuz Türkleri Ortodoks Hristiyandır.
Hazar Türkleri de Yahudi Türklerdi. Her ne kadar bazı kara cahiller ve antisemitler sonradan Yahudi olunmaz diyorsa da bunun gerçekle alakası yoktur. Hazar Türk Devleti Yahudi bir devletti. Türkler her dinden olabilir Hristiyan, Yahudi, Müslüman, Budhist bile olabilir. Bunlar Türklüğe mani unsurlar değildir. Müslümanlıktan önce de Türkler vardı.

You are right: the people "above" make wars and the people "below" suffer. My maternal second great father was from Izmir, he was a refugee and opened a metallic workshop in Beirut. He used to come after work, sit at the balcony, drinking the Lebanese oouzou and narguile.always thoughtful, seemingly miserable. I was six/eight years old at the time (I am of Italian origin now a US citizen). Beautiful songs that make me cry. Marcello

Thanks for this very informative post.
I really feel for the greek and turkish refugees of that era, I am a grand dougter of one and I know how they traumatised by the decision above them.
I loved marika ninou's voice.
I'll search for her more.

i completely reject this idea of turk being same with greek. a greek and a turk isn't same. we have some similarities but we aren't the same. greek way of living is totally different than turkish.

A Turk can only be a moslem (Sunni, Shafi`i, Alevi or Suufi).
Turks who converts to other religions as them, are no longer considered as turks.

Well. I had a doubt before, but now I am quite sure that you are an idiot. Do you know that nationality and religion are different things? Religion is a decision to be made, nationality is not. You can not regret your ancestors and origins. I have pre-islamic thoughts (Alevism), which can be considered as naturalism, or humanism. So You idiot really HAVE TO ACCEPT: I AM TURK! I dont think that the greek rebetiko is identical to the turkish music...maybe some melodies, but the "function" (lyrics, environment of singing, feeling) was much different, turks were too conservative in order to sing about this thematology. Besides it is quite under question if turkish music was really turkish...

Youtube has a lot of Turkish people who really try to connect and be friend with Greek ones but %90 of the time they got abuse from Greeks which I believe its the true reflect of Greek nation. I used to believe we could be friends but not anymore. Greeks will never forget the past and will always hate the Turks so make peace with yourselves at first than we can try...
