  • great song, great country, bad pictures, seriously a motorway, an industrial estate!

  • Long live the UNITED Kingdom

United we stand, divided we fall

The days of the old cruel English kings are over, we are all brothers, and have been since the begining of time! The men and women of the British Isles must stand together!

  • I too love this hymn !!

I do regret however that London and the south of Britain ignores the wealth creators of the north that gave the south an advantage in the first place. However ;quibbles aside, this is a mighty song and it makes me proud to live in my country of shared communities that the two world wars have brought together.

  • great selection of photos.

  • I'm a British/English born and bred Londoner and proud of it. If it's so bad here how come people from all ,over the world come here to live and love it too!

There are much worse places to live than our wonderful United Kingdom!

  • those power stations in medway ,ha ha thats where i work

  • Great song that makes me so sad for what this country has become.

  • This is the country, the rock,on which modern Western civilization was built. It will NEVER fade!

Long live the enternal British race - the greatest in the world!

  • crying my eyes out big time now thanks shazz

  • lots of lovely sussex i miss it so bad xxx thanks

  • I think a quote from Wes Anderson's "The Life Aquatic" sums up my feelings for my country when I watch this video and hear this song: "It is beautiful, Steve." "Yeah, it's pretty good isn't it." Watch that scene and the way those words are said and you will understand what I mean. Sure, they're talking about a shark in the scene, but I think the same sentiment applies.

  • Beautiful. Y'all SHOULD have pride in the UK--this from an American! You have so much history (I'm a medievalist, myself), so much culture. Britten, Purcell, Marlowe, Keats, Shakespeare...Visiting England (yes, I know England is not the same thing as the UK) is like coming home...

  • I used to live in Great Britain. Although I'm not British and I'm back in my home country now, I am proud to have lived in this beautiful country.

  • love the video and song

  • Such a beautiful song and lyrics never fail to bring tears to my eyes

  • I love this song and I live this country. I would fight for it and die for it.

To all Englishmen, Scotsmen, Irishmen and Welshmen, Unite, for we cannot be consumed by our petty differences anymore.

This should be our National Anthem

  • @Emissary633 What about Cornish and Mannish?

  • I'm a proud member of the English diaspora, an American of English heritage.

  • @histrav :)

  • @histrav Good that you remember the old country histrav !

  • I love this song and I'm not British. It's very soothing.

  • LONG LIVE THE QUEEN!!!

  • I love Britain :D

  • Why all the road shots? Thought I was in the middle of a google street view video at one point. Not the best view of our country....

  • @Thebustermann I think it's good to have more than just countryside photos.....considering that 90% of Britons live in cities (one of the higher rates among EU countries), but perhaps some better urban scenes could be found.

  • should be the new national anthem of the UK....oh but wait it might offend some minority group.

  • Proud to be English-American. Thinking and praying for English cities during this time of social unrest in the streets.

  • to true! Hail the Queen

  • WE should not squabble between england, scotland wales and N.Ireland,,, we have come through so much as one nation one people,,, remember what we accomplished together, remember what we fought agianst together, remember what we have gained together,,, always united, one queen, one nation one people

  • @alexandertory i better will say: always united, one queen, four nations, one people.

  • it should be our national anthem i mean it comes close 2nd to God save the Queen, i mean it even mentins the queen!

  • In all frankness, this should be the national anthem of Great Britain.

  • @TheNuharoo or land of hope and glory?

  • @Hellhalberd Nah, this song suits Britain far more.

  • the nuited kingdom is greater then a monarch..... @Gayalert and 4825mixd and pipingmarine surely the idea of a united four nations be more powerful then who has power of each other and waht someone as redundant as the reigning monarch has (and yes even as ex forces I say that) - the power and the idea is because we as a people are united.... that is what makes hymn likes this and land of hope and glory special.......

  • Gayalert69 is of cause being facetious to suggest our country retains 'God Save The Queen' even with a male ruler , perhaps he/she would also consider the splendidly contradictory statement we have "The King is dead - long live the King' (substitute Queen if a female monarch). By the way the next King will be not Charles the 3rd but George the 7th as 'Charles' is considered 'unacceptable' .

Also the monarch rules , the government governs , It is Her Majesty's Government.

  • Actually only the Dominion of Wales has its own official National Anthem , Scotland's anthem 'Rose of Scotland' has not official status and it should have, Ulster/ Northern Ireland hasn't got an anthem and neither, sadly has England though 'Land of Hope and Glory' is used at the Commonwealth games rather inappropriately as its a British anthem. Personally, I think 'I Vow to thee My Country' should be England's official National Anthem retaining 'God Save The Queen' as the United Kingdom Anthem.

  • Of course. It was God Save the King before 1952. Plus the monarch is not a ruler - the King or Queen reigns they don't govern. Plus, God Save the King/Queen is the national anthem of the United Kingdom - not England. The constituent parts of the UK have their own anthems.

  • From an American with Scottish-Irish-Welsh roots, I love this hymn. First heard it at Princess Di's funeral and was really moved by it. Greatest hymn ever. It SHOULD be Britain's national anthem. No question.

  • @pipingmarine

Absolutely not. Its a great tune and very moving but the anthem should remain God Save the Queen.

  • @Gayalert69 But what happens when England has a male ruler? Then it's "God Save the King"?

  • bring back the second verse!!

  • This should be our national anthem!

  • @Protojoe912 It always does to to me.

    SirStokie(a-kinda-hardened british soldier)

  • this song brings tears even to foreigners eyes, god bless united kingdom of great Britain

  • Imogen Holst, who lived till 1984,must have been proud that her father`s glorious melody, first used in his The Planets(Jupiter),should be so beloved by so many in it`s incarnation as a hymn set to a poem by Sir Cecil Spring-Rice.Gustav Holst`s good friend Ralph Vaughan Williams introduced Sir Cecil to Holst for a commission.Holst almost immediately realized that his Jupiter theme fit the words by Spring-Rice, who heartily agreed.

  • This could be the national anthem for anyone who loves their country. I'm American, and I can't get through this song without shedding tears. Knowing that it's a British hymn also means it creates patriotism in my heart for the U.K.

  • Being Scottish I just have to point out that there are lots of Scots who are still proud to be British. We are not all idiots supporting the SNP.

  • roy west

  • wow i see 2 or 3 pictures from the isle of sheppy yes? the new fly over bridge and one of the leysdown beach view to warden bay beach and cliffs looks quite old, i grew up on the isle

  • @Protojoe912 , true and this song brings to mind a line from the theme song of Soldier Blue "And this is my country ..." No matter where we are in the world, where ever we elect residence , Britain will always be Britain , no matter what . It is not a question of politics or anything like that it is just being proud of our country and what those before us have done .

  • I might not be from either England, Scotland, Wales or Irland, but Great Britain. I salute you

  • @Protojoe912 It does.

  • Should be the National Anthem!

  • Proud to be British, living in Canada

    Should be your National Anthem

  • I dont care i am English and proud of it i live in portsmouth hants so all you other british guys be proud of where you come from as i am ( we are unique in many ways )

  • I'm American -- the first time I heard this beautiful song was when it was played at the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana. One doesn't need to hear the lyrics to be touched to the core by it. The music is heartbreakingly beautiful. I will never hear it that I don't think of Great Britain.

  • This video did three things to me.

    1. Made my heart swell with pride.

    2. Made me all misty eyed.

    3. Made me homesick

  • I want to go home !

  • This song epitomises Great Britian . Never mind politics , we as british should be proud of our country in times when she needs it most .

  • A most beautiful and touching national hymn.

  • I am so proud to be living in the greatest country in the world. God save the Queen!

  • I go to Westminster School in London, every morning we sing this in Westminster Abbey, it is not an experience that everyone gets to feel

  • Aren't these words the only essence a country needs? Aren't these words everything that make the United Kingdom so special and so extraordinary? I'm German and though the only country I feel associated with is the United Kingdom. Why is that? Because the UK and the British people embody everything that once paved the way of triumph for our western values. Because you still live those values of bravery, loyalty and the awareness of your glorious history. I bow before your country.

    GS the Queen!

  • Every English should sing this every morning before the day's activities. this will make you to be happy through out that day

  • british first, english second, cockney bastard third

  • I am BRITISH first, and WELSH second.

  • Its still the greatest country on earth I will always be proud to be English and to hail from Burnley

  • England, forever in my heart,my soul and the air i breathe!!!!!!!!!! So proud to be from the land of hope and glory!!!!!!

    English until i die!!!!!!!

  • Awesome. Proud to be British.

  • @BritishUnion1707 I really believe you are very lucky to be born in England!Wonderful country and people!

I am italian and but I am not happy to live in my country by no means

Berlusconi rules his country for itself

    What a shame!

    Rule Britannia forever

  • @hamptoncourt66 maybe we meet in UK some day :)

  • English National Anthem! We already have a British one, lets make this the English National Anthem!

  • agree national anthem

  • Comment removed

  • Thank you!

  • Yes, I vote for this as the national anthem - or maybe Land of Hope and Glory.

  • there is no more British.... no more scots no more welsh. thanks to u we are now one of the most overcrowded countrys in the world.. yeah ..great en it .

  • We need to go back to what made British people and it's people great once again! Start buying British products only and let's bring back the great British spirit of enterprise and engineering and stop buying Chinese made stuff!

    Proud to be British!

  • Thanks for this and no ads :-)))))))).

  • We already have a very fine National Anthem for the UK as a whole, though this could be a candidate for an "English" anthem. As it's a Christian hymn with Christian themes, I see that, as with Jerusalem, to be extremely unlikely as England is no longer a Christian nation in any meaningful sense of the word.

  • @titusmountjoy I beg to differ. We most certainly ARE.

  • @FreeBritain1 as a Christian myself, I have to say I see very little evidence of that in a society riddled with political correctness, the hyper-sensitivity borne of multiculturalism, and the ever increasing marginalisation of Christian faith in the life of the nation assailed as it is by government and the media. Sad, but there it is. As a teacher, I have NEVER seen an act of worship or heard a prayer in a state school as the law requires, only in the C of E schools I have worked in.

  • @titusmountjoy You are a Christian? Then work harder! :-). ~~God bless~~

  • Here here to Eurobasher, I am proud to be English but I am also so so proud to be British!!! This country was fought for by all the unions and we must never forget those who have fallen for it and how beautifulk this nation is........long live Great Britain!!

  • Fuck the union

  • Comment removed

  • @TheChimpyJet No I'm English and i want independence from the rest of the UK. we make the money we should keep the money

  • @ManlnCognito Sounds like we've got a Scot.

  • this should be the English national anthem

  • What a fine song, although I am Australian, this is an emotional, inspiring, heart rendering song, It would do any nation proud to have as a national anthem, I have heard it at the start of rugby telecasts since it was first adopted as the rugby union anthem in 96, an amazing song, I still get chills down my spine hearing it...I live for rugby season, bring on the 2011 World Cup, what a fantastic song

  • i simply without any conditions love my country with all my heart, i love this song and it should be our National Anthem. God Bless Great Britain i shall never leave her.

  • England, Wales, Scotland, N. Ireland are only at their best when they are United! Long live the Union. God save the Queen!

  • @eurobasher you are right there by the way this is a great song who sings it

  • This hymnal promise is the British soul's pledge to this shimmering, sceptered isle, and really should be the British National anthem. This green and pleasant land forged our hearts and our strengths, our character and our culture.

As proud as I am of my English heritage, I am no less proud of my Irish and Scottish, and Welsh ancestry. We didn't always see eye to eye down through history, but the wars we fought together bonded us all as a nation of brothers and sisters.

  • I just found out recently that I am actually of English ancestry. In doing research, my family is from Charing Cross in London. If there are still any Boykins there, I would love to know cause I am part of your family on the other side of the pond. Listening to this song was awesome!!!

  • Rule Britannia!

  • @sameoldfitup2008 Don't disgrace this video and this song with your racist shit, Long live the UK but fuck the BNP. There's only one thing that could possibly cause me to be ashamed to be British, and that's that nazi holocaust denier Nick Griffin sitting in number 10.

  • Never forget Sir Winston Churchill and our brave men that defended this land with their very lives in the name of freedom.

  • The song is actually called "The Two Fatherlands", by the late, great Sir Cecil Spring-Rice. Up there with "Jerusalem" in my humble opinion!

  • @killedbyradio I thought that was the name of the poem it is based on? but with the music it is I vow to thee...

I could be wrong, either way great piece of music

  • Dartford Bridge @ 00:22

    my hometown :)

    God save the Queen!!!!

  • So many scenes look like my native Virginia but then the Jamestown settlers in 1607 must have thought that it looked quite a bit like home as well. God Save the Queen.

  • So true eurobasher wish more people would think like that British and very proud

  • ENGLISH AND PROUD

  • Great clip. Thanks!

  • This really should be the British national anthem. We should all remember that what made Britain great was the combination of skills and talents from the English, Welsh, Scotts, and Irish. The Irish built everytrhing, Scots enginners designed everthing, Welsh miners fueled the empire with the best coal and the English organised it all. Any one of those nations on their own would have got no further than the English channel! Britain isn't perfect but I'd rather live there than anywhere else!

  • Texas comes to mind....

  • Hi expostfactum,

I'm in Dallas right now and it was bl...dy cold and miserable here last week! It may be like this in the UK most of the time but at least we've got decent pubs and beer :-)

  • Oh, we have fantastic beer, you just have to look beyond the cheap, mega commercial labels. Ive been to England several times, our British pubs (at least our versions of pubs) have way better food, and a few have a good selection of beer local and "not so known" brands that are really good. You should try the Shiner label. I actually stow some of that away for my Brit buddy when I go over there. He loves it. You are correct, Dallas does suck.

  • I forgot....you can say "bloody" over here all day long..it doesnt mean anything to us.

  • @eurobasher: and the Indians, the South Africans, the Aussies, the Canadians, the Gurkhas, the Chinese, the Malays, the Kiwis, the Jews, the Arabs and so on. Don't discount their pain and scarifice just because they weren't white or considered to be too far away. That fat fuck nazi nick griffin and all the chavs who support him always forget that.

  • @eurobasher I totally agree it should be.

I love this its awesome. Thanks for the video.

  • @eurobasher your simplification is retarded

  • @eurobasher

And let's not forget that all of them; English, Scots, Welsh and even/especially the Irish fought and died for the glorious Empire we built.

  • Yes I agree with you. Britain is for the Irish, the Scots, the Welsh and the English. Great Britain is Greatest Britain for it as well! The mighty British Empire was the greatest the world ever saw or will see! Look at a map and ask yourself how a funny little islabd on the edge of nowhere built this mighty empire? Through the efforts of the GREAT British peiople - all of them!

  • @trackieben britain for irish WTF? ireland is for the irish not britain

  • @AFGuidesHD

    Never heard of Northern Ireland???

  • @Emissary633 yes i have but thats part of the united kingdom not britain britain is an island made of 3 countries.

  • @trackieben This comment has restored my faith that there are stil lsome patriots left in this nation and that it hasn't gone to the dogs as one would be led to believe in this lovely world we live in today and for this i thank you :)

  • @trackieben Only could some twisted Daily Mail reader would take pride in our imperial history. We built a mighty empire? By killing and enslaving countries all over the world and colonising them. That doesn't make me feel proud.

  • @FashMor has to be one a daily mail reader for being proud of the UK? and if so, what's the problem? decolonization had to be maked and it was maked and i am not sure about "slavery".

  • @FashMor It's people like you that allow our Country to be condemned for what we have done in the past, so what if we killed and enslaved populaces along the way, that is how Empires are built.

If you can't take pride in the Britain our ancestors built, and wish to wipe it from the History books, I don't think you deserve to be British.

We shouldn't have to allow endless waves of Immigrants into our Country to make up for past crimes, they are not crimes, but merely problems on the way to -

  • @HarbingerOfShadow building an Empire, yes it is regrettable our Country had done so over it's history, but National Pride is based off of past actions and achievements, and I find the British Empire for good or bad, to be our crowning achievement.

Due to the years following the First World War, our Country has began to crumble, this is due to 'post imperial guilt' but one should not harbor such emotions, we should be proud of our achievements, not wish to cover them up and forget -

  • @HarbingerOfShadow This is Britain, not America, or where-ever you'd like it to be, our Country was built on mighty foundations, yet politicians and over-liberalist people have taken a sledgehammer to our past, we will never get Britain back the way it was, but we need to restore National Pride, start basing our views off of years now past, the British Empire, not off of guilt, we should no longer allow people to dictate how our Country should be, the EU has done nothing in our favour, we are -

  • @HarbingerOfShadow merely being undone by it, people say it is a good thing, but that is not British spirit, it is time to take our Country back from the Liberalist press and politics, it is time to rebuild our England as a mighty Nation.

  • @HarbingerOfShadow Just a foot-note, if anyone later feels the need to roar defiance at me, I am not racist, but I am a Patriot, one thing which you may consider 'racist' though it really isn't just anti-(what-ever the term is), I am against Islam, other than that, I have absolutely no problem with any immigrant, that is all.

  • @trackieben

i would be far more honoured to think that my country was one of the few nations with a sense of compassion for the rest of the world and stayed out of all that imperialism business

  • @eurobasher - i totally agree mate :)

  • @eurobasher Well said!

  • @eurobasher That is the comment that will save the UK. I'm British, and your words are what make us a nation: we can all take pride in our differences whilst still being loyal to one nation! I don't like racism, but together we can make our nation great! Also this anthem is the best choice! God save the queen puts other countries to sleep, this is awesome!

  • I am Forever grateful to those who defended Britain in her darkest hours - they are the Heroes of the Past - They made Today Possible!!! I love this song!!!

  • and we that live in this country should continue to stop our heritage from being eroded as well as inviting progress and promoting peace. Lest ye forget.

  • As a fighter pilot in the last carnage, this tune always brought me to tears, not so much because Im British (Scots) but because it was the theme tune to so many comrades shot down over the country, defending her from the Nazis.

  • @willnotallow1 your 56 how was u a WW2 fighter pilot? twit

  • @willnotallow1 Errr, you do know people can view your age in your profile right? If it's true, and the fact that your age is listed as 56 is an error, then I apologise for being disrespectful, but if you are lying then I suggest you delete that comment, do the honourable thing and come clean. It is not something to be taken lightly, or something to lie about in order to get thumbs up on a comment...

  • @UnspecifiedCarnage omg somebody lied on Youtbe, STOP THE PRESS!

    QQ.

  • @smoochym Yeah, lie about your age, or how many times you've had sex, or what you earn, but, as an Englishman and a relative of people who did give their lives to defend our country, I find it the epitome of disrespect to tell a lie like that. It's disgraceful.

  • @willnotallow1 So you are a 56 year old ex World war 11 fighter pilot? You were still doing gymastics in your father's scrotum at that time, I suggest! LOL You should be around 90 to be of that vintage...who are you trying to kid?

  • @UKRod With respect, surely the last carnage was Iraq or Afghanistan.

  • @Eurofrank1 'The last carnage' one assumes refers to World War11. He is not very clear on this and I suppose it could be the limited air operations of the Iraq War of 2003 or the Gulf War of 1991 (which I was in) or even Afghanistan. Hardly 'carnage' for the RAF, however - they all had nice cushy hotels to live in during the First Gulf war while soldiers in the desert and sailors covering the Iraqi/Kuwait coast had more basic accommodation.

  • @UKRod Maybe Falklands War?

  • @willnotallow1

this guy is a massive fake, look at his channel.

  • @willnotallow1 If I understand you, you are Scottish like me, so I think you'll find my question interesting; I'm proud to be Scottish but British. I like when Hero Scots like you are proud to be British. I'm scared of the way Scotland is going, and scared Scots may not feel British in future, but how do you think we should act to remain British? I am proud to write to you, you are a national hero. A braw bricht man!

  • its the tune from ohgod beyong your prasies

  • Thank you for the wonderful images. You clearly appreciate that you live on the most beautiful island in the world and in a great country. This is a wonderful song. I appreciate that it would make a wonderful National Anthem, but if it was your anthem then those of us in far flung corners of the world would not be able to sing it as a hymn, which we do like to do.

  • :-)

  • @bajoma123 I crtainly do bajoma123. This song came from that funny little island off the north west coast of Europe! Britain may not be a big country physically but in other other ways she is IMMENSE!

  • Britain is not a country.

    England is a country

  • Britain is the island.

  • Indeed, we are the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

  • True we are the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, however people from the UK are called British

  • Go back to school dude.

  • that makes you proud to me british as they say if you have a British passport then youhave won first prize in the lottery of life

  • Lots of great images, but to those who never been to Britain at 4:29 is poignant as almost every village has a memorial like this dedicated to the men she lost in WW1 primarily.

  • Your pictures paint a very good scene of what I see in my mind when I hear this wonderful song.

Sadly as many others have pointed out it has been robbed of some of its original meaning by the omission of the middle verse but nonetheless it is a fantastic tune.

  • To ifuliki: Good comments about "Jerusalem - The Hymn" which is also the title of my favorite video thus far on YouTube.

  • I heard my country calling, away across the sea,

Across the waste of waters she calls and calls to me.

Her sword is girded at her side, her helmet on her head,

And round her feet are lying the dying and the dead.

I hear the noise of battle, the thunder of her guns,

I haste to thee my mother, a son among thy sons.

always missed out but best verse

  • indeed i agree with songratingaccount, they miss out the middle verse because they deem it 'innapropriate' in a way they are deeming this countries foundations innapropriate then

  • I have lived overseas in California for a decade, but this verse rings very true as I'd drop everything here in less than a heartbeat if she called...

  • "us" was the UK. Since I speak French and like the French, I didn't understand the writer's point. But hey, I said "hear hear" you made your point!!! Who am I to respond? You know me so well, you wrote it yourself : "I already know what your problem is when I see how you compose a message". So fair enough...

  • I love "The Last Night of the Proms 2008 - Jerusalem". A beautiful melody & a wonderful poem written by a Brit (an Englishman) As an expatriot Welshman I would love Jeerusalem to be our national anthem. I think God save the Queen is a tad boring although I am

patriotic at heart and wish our monarch well and have served my country as a soldier. The last line promises that we will try to make Britain a better place.

That is a sentiment I prefer to that of our National Anthem.

  • Nice editing. real good

  • This should be our national anthem !

  • Either this, Rule Britannia or Land of Hope and Glory.
