ive seen a lot of Thernardier's, including a family member of mine do it on bway. To me, thenardier has to be about the acting, not the shtick...for these reasons, I think alun armstrong does it best.
This is our school musical :) Type in TY- Les Mis and go to 2:09 and just see if you think ours is better :) It's Shaun Young singing Master of the House :)
@mrsdavidcook3 I saw Les Mis on Broadway and it was wonderful … However, I only recently saw Matt Lucas' performance and I agree with you 100%. I fell in love with him immediately :o)
Jenny Galloway was totally useless as Madam theandier yet again! I HATE HER! she puts zero effort in to that role and she is a horrible cocky clever actress too with no acting skills what so ever. how bloody dare Camaron Mavckintosh not choose Lynne Wilmot from the tour for the concert, Jenny was bloody awful! Mat was great and would of worked soooooooo much better alongside Lynne Wilmot. Jenny is ancient compared to Matt! sort your casting head our Cameron!
@urworstnightmare123 Was that Martin Ball, Greg Castigloni or Mark Hedges? I 've seen Martin and Mark, Martin was awesome to me, Mark was the worst Thenardier ever.
@Monkeyballmania I saw martin Ball. He was just okay for me really. I thought the master of the house scene was excellent, (he ended up drinking his own piss, it was really funny) but I wasn't really getting thenardier from him. Gary beach however has just got that sleazy vibe that the bloke on the 10th anniversary has too. Have you seen Matt lucas do it? x
@urworstnightmare123 Wow, when I saw Martin Ball he didn't drink his pee but Mark Hedges did! And yes, I saw Matt Lucas at the matinee at the o2 :) He was better than Alun Armstrong live, in my opinion.

Very weak performance and lacking in character this, nothing by comparison to the original British stage performance. Hardly worth the effort in posting, let alone viewing.
Hmm, it's not my favorite performance either - but I wouldn't say it's unworthy of posting or viewing (Especially since it was apparently worth your effort in to comment...LOL.)
@brucklay227 That is a HORRIBLE thing to say! So what if you prefer something else, doesn't mean you have to be so horrible and cruel to the thing you like less! You should be absolutely ashamed! Personally, I think they're great.
@brucklay227 He's way better than Alan. Thenardier should be a spontaneous, over-the-top character, and Alan couldn't handle it. Gary definitely could. I'd suggest getting to know the characters before you comment on something like this.
@TheAxelMan100 Well actually Mr Know-All, I absolutely do know the characters and stick by what I said originally, absolutely. Not a patch on the original West End stage performance.
@TheAxelMan100 and how can you compare aluns with this please explain? there is no footage of him doing it on stage and unless you saw him live in 1985 (which i know you didn't) you couldn't possibly make the comparison because in the 10th anniversary show all that he had to work with was a standing microphone and no other people on stage (unlike the 25th) even then he made it seem extremely lively with the actions he put to it and got one of the biggest applauses of the entire show
@TheAxelMan100 also im not saying which one is better because i did really enjoy that performance what i am saying is you cant compare alun to gary beach because there isn't enough footage

gary was very good....but go look up matt lucas' performance.
matt lucas put so much more effort and a great amount of charisma into his performance...not that gary doesnt. but matt lucas is a personal favorite.

I thought they cut that opening part out of the revival...
noahsbackingtracks 2 years ago
Evidently not...
m00nagedaydream 2 years ago
Yea, a little part of it is cut, but I thought the whole thing was.
noahsbackingtracks 2 years ago
@noahsbackingtracks The bits 'mine host Thenardier' to 'spoils of war' and 'ain't got a clue' to 'is gonna do me in' was cut 1991...
Monkeyballmania 1 year ago
@Monkeyballmania -- Actually, those parts were cut back in 2000.
javertim 1 year ago
@javertim Really? I read it was 1991. My bad.
