The Bible teaches both positions. If it didn't we wouldn't be having this discussion. If the Bible only left room for one view, it would be the product of a man. Isn't that ironic.
In Luke 16:23 the rich man who is very much dead in his sins and trespasses, lifts up his eyes in hell, and seeing Abraham and Lazarus far off, he begs for mercy. When there is no ercy to be had for himself, he agains pleads mercy for his brothers.
Spiritual death is not the inability to desire salvation, it is the inability to effect Salvation.
The Gospel of Christ grants the willing sinner the ability to RECEIVE salvation thru the Grace of Christ, by Believing in Jesus....
@ChristusVlCTOR [cont] Again, we see this CLEARLY laid out in Scripture in Romans 7. Here Pauls tells us that he was "alive once" but then he "died", this refutes that we are spiritually stillborn, but rather we die when we sin. Then, even when he's dead in trespasses & sin, Paul wills to do good v.18. and in v.24 despite being dead in trespasses & sin, & enslaved to sin, Paul shows us, that even in that state he did cry for deliverance. But he was helpless, without Christ. Hence Romans 8
Ever wonder why God describes salvation as the new birth or "Born Again?" Why does he say "Born Again?" Is there synergism between an unborn infant and the mother to cause natural birth? Does the infant deliberate and choose or is there just birth? Can an infant refuse to be born naturally? So it is with being "Born Again" No approval, no contemplation, no choice, no refusal. There is simply the gift of new birth. Not of ourselves, the will of the flesh or the will of man.
@cherubimX Regardless of whether it is a straw man argument, no person is involved in his or her born again experience. You do not become born again by believing the gospel. You are able to believe the gospel AFTER being born again. It is the new birth which enables one to believe the gospel. God alone is the agent of salvation. Man does not agree with God to become saved.
@CJAugustine That's just... DUMB! The Gospel of CHRIST is the POWER unto Salvation, for all those who believe (Roms 1). If you have to be born again BEFORE you believe the Gospel, then the Gospel is worthless. Take your eyes off of Calvin and put them on Jesus, HE is the One that saves you, that is the GOOD NEWS, that is the POWER, do not harden your heart, believe the Gospel and be saved.
@ChristusVlCTOR The Gospel of Christ is the power unto those who believe. Unto those who believe. How do they come to belief? Jesus explained why some people come to Him and others do not. Read John 6:35-66. Please exegete these passages. We're not the ones caught up on Calvin my friend. You are missing the forest for the trees.
@RockSprites John 6 teaches us the following. v44 the Father Draws* - v45 the Father teaches ALL men {v63 the Words that I speak unto you, they are Spirit & they are Life}, those that have heard AND learned of the Father - v47 & believed - v 37 the Father gives to Christ - v37 those given come to Christ - v 35 & eat the bread of life & drink the blood - v37 Christ in no way casts them out
*John 6 does not teach us WHO the Father draws, or HOW He draws them, this is taught in John 12:32; 49-50
It really does baffle me how you could possibly have quoted Ephesians 2:8-9 as a proof text against monergism and somehow not notice "and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God".
It's like saying, "This gun's not loaded and I'll prove it. *shoots self in foot* See!".
The only true Gospel comes from man's recognition that he is truly dead in trespasses and sin. The only way man can recognize this is through a miraculous revelation from something outside of himself. As the Holy Spirit works within the person's heart, the person is moved ever closer to the author of our salvation. The good news is that God acts in man still to this day. When this miracle occurs, man has only one thing left to do....eucharisteo (thanks-giving). Excellent video!

Faith is not a work. In the bible faith is constrasted with works as being the opposite of each other. So believing the gospel is not a work.
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through FAITH—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by WORKS, so that no one can boast. "
ephesians 2: 8-9
synergism vs monergism is just a calvinistic straw man argument.
