did you take this on the road??? You should do a followup on how the laptop handled the road! I'm nervous about buying one because I've read some reviews saying the LCD went out after a few months and that it gets really hot on your lap.

Compared to Toshiba Portege 705-P35 , Toshiba Portege 705-P41 has i5 processor and same spes but P35 gets the editor's choice award. I would really appreciate if some one advises me which one to choose. Does upgrading i3 to i5 make any difference?

@sulavserene well, it depends on what your going to be doing with the computer. for everyday taskes(web browsing, microsoft office) then the difference won't be noticeable

Don't worry about it. It s nowhere as noisy as some people claim on their comments and reviews. That comes from a seriısly disturbed one who takes extreme measures to silence his computers.

It is the crappy screen that you should be really concerned about. Never saw anything that bad. Viewing angles and color saturation is horrible. It literally has the worst display I ve ever seen on a laptop. It plainly is unacceptably bad.

The speakers suck, but this computer rocks. The fan does seem to be running all the time but it's pretty quiet. The keyboard rocks and it is very nice to type on.  The computer is very light which is nice for traveling. The bottom has one plastic piece about an inch which seems to be covering - I don't know what? Otherwise this thing is built great.

what is the difference between r700 and r705?

Why is this thing exclusively being sold at BestBuy? This model seem wonderful(and really thinking of buying this R705), but is Toshiba selling anything equivalent as this at MicroCenter or CompUSA?

@bluebearbank247 Best Buy strikes a lot of exclusives. You won't find the R705 anywhere else. You can find a R700 business model elsewhere, but unless you need the biz features you are better off getting from Best Buy.

@imjoshdotcom Thanks for reply. Do you know the difference between R705-P25 and r705-P35, other than CPU speed? The BestBuy sells both. Despite P35 has higher CPU clock (same i3), P35 is $20 cheaper than P25!, therefore I am getting big ???.

Hi Josh, can you tell me whether the bottom half of the laptop is plastic or not?  Usually they are, but I would jump for joy if the entire construction was the magnesium alloy. Thanks -D

@patricksblog Toshiba builds R705 model to tolerate the gap between business user and home user. So the R705 is actually a cheaper version of R700, and of course eliminate features like finger print reader which showed up on R700. The black version is exclusively for R700 to distinguish between the two. So bottom line, for just about 200 dollar more, why not buy R700, the differences are not only the color.

@kuhwuped With the integrated graphics in this you won't be playing modern games like Call of Duty unless you plan to purchase an Xbox 360 as well.

Have you thought of the Alienware M11x? 11.6", made for gaming and in the same price range.

@kuhwuped Ive actually had the r705 for about a month now and every game I have played on it works perfectly without me having to lower the graphics I cant speak for call of duty but I have been playing this game vindictus which has the best graphics ive seen for a mmorpg and it runs great so does the sims

@jameelhd Battery is good so far. I am getting around 5 hours using it with Wifi and a fairly bright screen, May be longer as I haven't yet been timing it yet.

It gets toasty when you are using it for a while. The back left area especially. I found that if you leave the front fan uncovered then it is cooler.

I believe the MacBook has a better graphics option, but I don't have the notebook in front of me right now. On the other hand the inclusion of Intel WiDi and a tiny package at $799 is impressive.
