I grew up in SA in late 60s and early 70s, and when I went back a few years back when I arrived downtown I was amazed that they must have had zoning to limit downtown building, which I was very glad of. Unlike other places I lived, like Philly and NY etc, which effectively leveled may old areas to "gentrify" is that the term they use? the city.

@kritikalmass7 OMG. Just move to the Northside. The medical center is VERY safe. You can find many apartments in that part of town that you won't have to worry anything about. Trust me, as long as you don't move to the East, South, or West, you have nothing to worry about.

San Antonio has great roads and one of the largest and best maintained freeway networks in the country. Good joob of pulling out of mostly negatives things about S.A. which can also be said for any major city. The immediate areas of downtown you will find affluent suburbs of million dollar homes in Olmos park, Alamo heights, Terrel Hills, King William, Southtown, Monte VIsta and so on. The east and west sides have ghettos but what major inner city doesn't?

I live on the southside not that bad i love the mall and stores there...

The northside is ok it's always pack but i go over there to the Book stores.

Downtown is fun! Love going there it can be a bit scary at night but all good..

Tommy Lee Jones lives in San Antonio. I used to work in a restaurant he frequented and he would get very very drunk and grouchy. Nobody really liked it when he came in. Eva Longoria is from SA and owns a home here.
