very,very,nice.. makes me think about moving out of my rv. and my sea kayak would be the perfect transportation.. thanks for you insight! it is refreshing.
Hahaha! People on land pay MORTGAGE fees, but "you" H2O people pay MOORAGE fees!
Btw, why not install a marine wind turbine (built for boats) on your roof? Much cheaper than solar, but wind not constant. If you can afford it, put a solar panel on the slanted part of your roof. : )
I just love Stephanie's little houseboat, how I have always longed to live a life on the water - Enjoy your little home, can't complain at $580 in moorage fees/month for that way of life, I would easy pay double that to live a life like yours, enjoy!
Wow! Thanks for posting this. I think it's cured me of my desire to live in a floating home. The views are all of the other little houses. Unless you get an end spot you might as well be living in a condo complex on dry land where it's easy to get your furniture and groceries inside. Even on the roof the views are not even remotely interesting.
I built and lived on three houseboats, I lived year round and paid no moorage or other fees. once you have lived on the water--you don't ever want to go back!
if anyone seriously studies the advantages of a water dwelling--how can you choose anything else!?
Yay Steph! You are alive! Was sad to think you were no longer updating your twitter, blog, youtube and Flickr accounts. Even sadder thinking something happened to you. We've all grown quite attached to you and Rumi.
Btw, the little tree looks like a cherry blossom as someone else has mentioned.
The US did not have any until Japan gave 3020 cherry blossom trees as a gift in 1912 to celebrate the nations' then-growing friendship.
Earlymusicus, I purchased mine for 35K when it was in serious disrepair. I ended up putting another 75k into repairs/rennovations. I owned my house outright but paid $580 in moorage fees a month.
How affordable are those houses? From the size of the sailboats, it looks like this would be an area for the very much higher-income people; certainly not for a $20,000 a year office clerk, I'll bet.
Stephanie - very nice tour You should be doing voice-overs and instructions video's with that lovely voice tho - mind you with your office location lol too top that hmmm
Overpriced shit boxes on a sewage canal. YOu people got screwed LOL. What a waste of money. Tell those beuracrats to take their high priced property taxes and shove em where the sun don't shine. I can't believe people are this dumb.
Zeke, my moorage is $512 a month. Property taxes are currently $550 a year. (Floating homes are treated as a hybrid between a home and personal property so the tax rate is lower.)
Thanks for getting back to me. The moorage fee seems high for just sitting in the water? I won't grip about my $385 space rent in the trailer park here in Bend;) Is it just that moorage place or is that the nowm for a floating house along the river? I think a regular "house" boat would be cool so that it could be moved when you wanted to have something different to look at. Still, haveing no grass to worry about would be nice.
My moorage is a little higher than normal for that size space due to the fact that I'm near the end of a pier and have a killer view of the river. Keep in mind, too, that the moorage covers my water, sewage, and trash service. All I pay for is electrical and internet.
Sounds like the park I am at. I just pay for the electric and space rent. So, depending on where someone is on the dock the rent is cheaper? Can someone just moore up agains the bank along the river?
Hi Stephanie: Love the video. What a wonderful way to live. I'm not too far from you in Canada on Gabriola Island BC. My wife and I built a 576 square foot house here. It's on Youtube. If interested do a search for
WE also live in a floating home community in New jersey. Our home is for sale as our marina owner doubled the slip fee to almost $1200.00 per month. We are almost ready to relocate and if we do it will not be for sale any longer. You can see it by searching :sea village marina. It is for sale for 199.000
Yes, nice place for an office, indeed! We have a lot of calm water here (hurricanes, aside ;-), but nothing like these that I have been able to find, yet.
