  • Fantastic -- thank you so much for posting that. God, that takes me back. We lost Johnny too young.

  • Wow. Awesome.

  • GODAMNIT PHIL WHY DID YOU HAVE TO RAISE THE BAR LIKE THAT

« So many partings »

Trop fun de re écouter leur album now

  • outstanding! Musicianship of the highest calibre; speed and dexterity and being one witht he instrument; RIP Johnny Cunningham, we miss you!

  • A really young looking Phil Cunningham. I must confess my ignorance. I was unaware that he had a very talented brother. I am familiar with his work with Ally Bain, and always enjoy what they do.

Thank you for sharing this excellent video.

  • @Corrie121 Thanks for the note. Phil and Johnny were founder members of Silly Wizard who were a great band. Their lead singer was the inimitable Andy M Stewart and their instrumentals were superb too, largely due to the talented Phil and Johnny :-)

  • Quienes creen que el dinero lo hace todo, terminan haciendo todo por dinero.

I wouldn't trade them for Bach and Mozart!

  • So amusing to see how they play like they never did anything else :) Like they don't even have to concentrate anymore... Masterful

  • Stunning!!!!

  • Tremendous musicianship. I only found out this morning of Johnny's sad passing, which has brought tears to my eyes. I remember meeting and following Silly Wizard in 1979. Lost contact over the years and the distance (I'm in Africa).

    VERY SAD news, RiP.

  • very nice playing alex

  • Wow :)

  • Good song has a good tune to it

  • Uh, could you play it a bit faster? lol

  • You could always convert it to mp3 and speed it up to your hearts content (if you really really need to ) - but I reckon that would be going a touch too far :-)

  • it's so nice to know that Johnny lives on in YouTube.

  • super musicians! very best accordeon playing i've ever seen.

  • I will never get over the loss of the wonderful, talented Johnny Cunningham. I

  • WOW!

    I've a question:

I've a disc, Ceilidh Celtic Dancing Music... They aren't Silly Wizards?

  • The disc you name has a few tracks featuring the brothers - John and Phil Cunningham play solo tracks and then they play as part of the band on the Silly Wizard track and they were also members of Relativity.

  • Cool! Thanks for the info!

  • You are welcome NuestroPan

  • aww :)

  • unbelievable!

  • i saw Silly Wizard years ago in Irvine and they were brill. has anyone got them to put on youtube. great to see these 2 again. Scottish music at its best.

  • Yes but not much. One video and three background music.

  • My dream is to play the fiddle like Johnny one day! I'v played for 6 years now and hoping to get there soon xD x

  • It would be good to see some examples on your channel then, Gina. Keep fiddling!

  • awesome! such talent....

  • Thanks for this splendid clip - brings me memories when I saw these awesome musicians live at a folk festival when they were Silly Wizard - unforgettable...

  • In case anyone's interested, the tunes are:

"The Laird of Drumblair" - strathspey, with a reel version played by Johnny (and how!)

    "Jean's Reel" - Phil's solo

"The Musical Priest" - final reel played by both guys.

  • Thanks for the info. I knew the names of the first two but I was stumped for the third - even though I've got a posting of Frankie Gavin playing it. D'oh!

  • You know, when they play really fast, only the dogs can hear them!! lol (Thanks Andy)

  • I got to know Phil & Johnny in the mid 80s when they were with Silly Wizard. Great guys & great musicians both.

    Manhattan Jack

  • These guys were the greatest. We had a chance to work with John for two years. it was an honor, and a lot of fun. Phil worked on one of our recordings. I never heard anyone play that amazing! He had a full sounds & swell, with vibrations I could not see how he was doing them!!! I will miss them dearly!!

  • Outstanding fiddle playing! I had the honor of seeing Johnny play in the Celtic Fiddle Festival some years ago in the Boston area. He appeared with Kevin Burke, & Christian LeMaitre. I have a wonderful cd from Phil Cunningham. This much talent in one family leaves me practically speechless! JM : )

  • I had the privilege of knowing and playing with them both for a time in 1980, 81. What a cultural pleasure, and great people to boot.

  • Hi imperpinya:

Sorry I can't to justice to the comment above : The brothers Cunningham, Phil

and Johnny (deceased for some years), without trap nor cardboard, ( I can't do

justice to the Spanish idiom used) They are authentically brilliant. The most... I adore them.

Muchas gracias a todos los que leyendo y comentando. (Hope that makes sense)

Thanks for all your comments on the posts.

  • I ought to have followed my first instinct - sin trampa ni cartón - no fraud/cheating tricks!

  • Los hermanos Cunningham, Phil y Johnny (fallecido hace algunos años) en directo, sin trampa ni cartón, auténticamente geniales. Lo más... ¡Os adoro!

  • I knew Johnny Cunningham! He was my aunt friend! I miss him...

  • Can't thank you enough for this.

  • Totally brilliant! They are the masters.

  • It is an honor to be able to see together brothers both. The time has gone and John no longer is, but he is as if we had seen them yesterday. As always brilliant.

To see NEMO video looking for by nemofolk

  • Fantastic! When the video was made?

  • Thanks for your comment. It dates to about ten or twelve years ago. I'm sorry I can't be more precise at the moment.
