A really young looking Phil Cunningham. I must confess my ignorance. I was unaware that he had a very talented brother. I am familiar with his work with Ally Bain, and always enjoy what they do.
@Corrie121 Thanks for the note. Phil and Johnny were founder members of Silly Wizard who were a great band. Their lead singer was the inimitable Andy M Stewart and their instrumentals were superb too, largely due to the talented Phil and Johnny :-)
Tremendous musicianship. I only found out this morning of Johnny's sad passing, which has brought tears to my eyes. I remember meeting and following Silly Wizard in 1979. Lost contact over the years and the distance (I'm in Africa).
You could always convert it to mp3 and speed it up to your hearts content (if you really really need to ) - but I reckon that would be going a touch too far :-)
I could listen to this for days... well, music LIKE this. If I had this on a loop I might go crazy... but either way, absolutely fantastic music, and ridiculous talent!
The disc you name has a few tracks featuring the brothers - John and Phil Cunningham play solo tracks and then they play as part of the band on the Silly Wizard track and they were also members of Relativity.
lol this is awsome... my mom met him in an old irish bar down on cape cod in 1996 i think she said... lol funny funny guy theyd drink together laugh and hed get up with the band and pla... wish i was old enought to have gone with her...
i saw Silly Wizard years ago in Irvine and they were brill. has anyone got them to put on youtube. great to see these 2 again. Scottish music at its best.
Thanks for this splendid clip - brings me memories when I saw these awesome musicians live at a folk festival when they were Silly Wizard - unforgettable...
Thanks for the info. I knew the names of the first two but I was stumped for the third - even though I've got a posting of Frankie Gavin playing it. D'oh!
These guys were the greatest. We had a chance to work with John for two years. it was an honor, and a lot of fun. Phil worked on one of our recordings. I never heard anyone play that amazing! He had a full sounds & swell, with vibrations I could not see how he was doing them!!! I will miss them dearly!!
Outstanding fiddle playing! I had the honor of seeing Johnny play in the Celtic Fiddle Festival some years ago in the Boston area. He appeared with Kevin Burke, & Christian LeMaitre. I have a wonderful cd from Phil Cunningham. This much talent in one family leaves me practically speechless! JM : )
It is an honor to be able to see together brothers both. The time has gone and John no longer is, but he is as if we had seen them yesterday. As always brilliant.
Fantastic -- thank you so much for posting that. God, that takes me back. We lost Johnny too young.

In case anyone's interested, the tunes are:
"The Laird of Drumblair" - strathspey, with a reel version played by Johnny (and how!)
"Jean's Reel" - Phil's solo
"The Musical Priest" - final reel played by both guys.

Hi imperpinya:
Sorry I can't to justice to the comment above : The brothers Cunningham, Phil
and Johnny (deceased for some years), without trap nor cardboard, ( I can't do
justice to the Spanish idiom used) They are authentically brilliant. The most... I adore them.
Muchas gracias a todos los que leyendo y comentando. (Hope that makes sense)
Thanks for all your comments on the posts.
