Carver's legacy as a major American writer is secure.
Quite frankly, I don't like his poetry. Most of it seems to be prose, upon which he imposed arbitrary line breaks. But his best stories will endure. And I encourage anybody who cares about good writing to read Carver's nonfiction -- his book reviews, essays, etc. in "Call if You Need Me." They reveal an intelligent man with a very appealing personality:) --
He was one of the finest authors who have ever existed. His writing is beautiful. The sublime in the mundane. And I don't mean that disparagingly. It is uncanny. His poetry is amongst the best. A great loss to the world. Peace Carver x
thanks for posting this movie. been a rc fan for years, reading his bio (christmas gift). seeing, hearing him speak, adds to the enjoyment of his stories, who he was...
I grew up in and around Port Angeles. Hopefully he will inspire the bumpkins from there to think a little.....probably not though. Ha ha whasabook? Shoot, ninety some percent of the folk around there don't even know who he is. An article in a recently read news publication interviewed a high school English teacher in Sequim who had NEVER HEARD OF RAYMOND CARVER. Wow. I'm glad I moved.

Why I like this is , is that it's ambient storytelling...means not the end,it does not
necessarily have to have a point to it, and with this in in mind, we can create what
we want, in any medium; the 'point' lies with who's beholding it.

And did you get what
you wanted from this life, even so?
I did.
And what did you want?
To call myself beloved, to feel myself
beloved on the earth.
