i have the musicman stingray 5 HH its great! i played warwick jazz and corvette there great to i like the neck on the musicman better. and with the other humbucker and a 5 way switch you can get so many tones out it.
Warwick wins almost evrybass already just by the neckwood. Ovangkol neck and wenge fretboard is like one of best combination of neck wood combinations ive ever felt and heard... i always hated maple necks so... oh and warwick's bubinga bodies... thats the perfection :P you really start to get that sentance "sound of wood" when talking about warwicks...
@AidanBassPlayer I think the Warwick has my preference. Sits so nice and easily in a mix, and works perfect for my band. I traded the Stingray for a Pedulla Thunderbolt, and it was a deal to my advantage. But I really wouldn't mind getting another Stingray once again.
Keep in mind the MM being a 5 string contributes to it having a bigger. The 4 string MM has more punch, & generally that's usually the case with most 4 strings. Overall tough 4 string MM have more sizzle compared to the Warwick IMO. Both great basses in their own right!
Sound different. Both are great instruments, but to me the Ray's got the bite that Warwicks equipped with a similar humbucker don't. Stingrays always had that distinct sound that just was just in-your-face, especially when slapped. Warwicks have a more mellow sound to them, more woody and dark I'd say. But that doesn't make it bad or anything, just a different tone. For the feel, I love the Rays 100x over any Warwick, I've owned a few of each brand and always came back to the Stingray.
@syndrome666 I guess th Stingray is a little more traditionnal and as a consequence, works better in more situations. Pretty hard to sound vintage with a Warwick, for example.
@Zackr27 I like both, they are really different sounds, but from my experience, both cut through the mix very well in a band situation. I would disagree on the "flatness" of the Warwick sound, but that's color and taste here! ;)
Ders notin like a Warwick man...

the difference appears when you play the slap part ; warwick is more modern and the stingray is more vintage-precision-like sound.

@jeanlemarchais stingray destroys the warwick in slap. For other styles warwick sounds better

Nearly all of the tonal difference comes from the electronics and pickup placement. Body wood makes no noticeable difference.

What's the difference between tomato and tractor? Tomato is red and tractor has door openning outside :-)
Stringboiler 3 months ago
@Stringboiler I saw a red tractor yesterday. I know tomatoes can be green too.

Yep they're different....the Warwick seems darker and richer.....I'm usually a M.M. fan,but I think here the FNA sounds better....

I think what I have learnt from this video is the fact I require both basses in my life

I'm surprised the single H Stingray sounds as full as it does here. I've never played on in person. Are you using the eq to bump up the lows?
jtroska 4 months ago
@jtroska No, as written on the video, all EQ were flat. Otherwise, this video wouldn't have any sense. Thanks for watching.

The Stingray has a much more full low end.
Zackr27 6 months ago
@Zackr27 Yeah, more scooped sound for the Stingray imo, while the Warwick has punchy mediums imo. That's what Warwick is known for!

@thibo62 I love the way warwicks look, but I've never liked their sound. It seems far to flat for my taste.

@thibo62 I meant flat as in the Stingray seems to have much more dynamic sound that the warwick.
