  • this is incredible!!

  • wspaniale widowisko

  • very good !!!

  • @MrMichaelcrowther I was at one of the Docklands concerts...the driest one if I remember! He'd been trying for months to get permission from Newham council for those gigs

  • he has beautiful music if you ever realise the music in our days is based on his music.

  • excellent, brings back very good memories of the London Docklands concert. It rained the Saturday but what a great evening

  • That shadow looks like Freddy Krueger!

  • dio come amo quest'uomo !!!!!

  • I just love this song!

  • Tsunmi footage from japan

  • FATHER OF TRANCE MUSIC!

  • Jarre is God! when I die I will be your music paradise. Is denied its connection with the operator

  • Terrific music ....But anyone knows what the shadow at the background signifies ? Creeps the hell outta me......

  • @cvdfer343434: It's based on the HC Andersen story "The Shadow". Both the presenter and Jarre had their short speeches before the music, I'll see if I can upload it too for you.

  • @cvdfer343434 The shadow in the background is a little insider treat for hans christian andersen-lovers.. one of hes more sinister fairy tales is called the shadow

  • Does anyone know if JMJ has ever toured the US?

  • @PhilistineTheArtLuvr How about the Houston show? ;) No, I don't know of any US-tour in the past.

  • @baramartin Houston? You mean that was it? A show? You see, the reason I'm asking is because I have the suspicion JMJ has something against the US, mainly a political disagreement, and that's why the guy has hardly been here. It'd be truly a shame if that's the case.

  • @PhilistineTheArtLuvr I've no idea why he hasn't toured the US, but I don't think the reason would be the politics. Maybe more because of the logistics? Or maybe the trouble getting the gear through the customs, or any fees involved? Or maybe it' just a bit difficult in general to get in to the US? :) (just kidding!:) Rumours or assumptions could be wrong anyway.

  • @baramartin it's because (as bad ass as Jean Michel Jarre is) Americans generally don't get off on all of this Cirque de Soleil horseshit. Maybe if he started playing shitty club music, younger people would go, but I think he's looking at too much of a mixed bag to bother with the states. We'll just have to keep waiting or come up with our own Ambassador of Ambience or whatever the hell we're supposed to call him.

If I wanted to see a show, I'd buy Gwar tickets or go to the theatre.

  • @PhilistineTheArtLuvr He did play a lot in the US before. One of his biggest concert was in NY... But I dont know about nowadays.

  • QUE COSA MAS GRANDE, BESTIALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

    thats THE REAL Rendezvous! haha!

  • This is SO GREAT ! :D

  • correct me if im wrong. the laser dispersor is a prism?

  • @darkdyaz2: Yes, *if* you want to split the beam, that is. Not sure how JMJ does, maybe it's several lasers/sources? Then each beam could be set to its own note or sound, playing when the beam is broken. And then of course the mirrors to get the beam(s) where you want them :) .

Further reading on wikipedia org "laser harp" is recommended! ;)

  • LASER HARP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 1:55 epic

  • @cjakub NO! That part is legendary, all other is EPIC :D

  • Brilliant Jean Michel could have dressed a bit smarter for the occasion. The eyes of the world were on him. He looks like someone who has just wandered in off the street/road.

  • @silverstartrucker You mean more like Michael Jackson? h ah ah ah

  • I'm a SingerSonwriter at present- But- JMJ really made me a really great keyboardist in my early years... I followed "Tomita" prior to discovering Jean back in the early 80's... Well- It's so amazing to relive his music via YOUTUBE! I've since been able to draw on BonJovi, Tomita, Dream Theater and JMJ when it comes to laying Synthe trax! Thanks for putting this performance up! Tears are in my eyes! H. Late in April

  • Beautiful.... a work of a Art x

  • BRUTAL!!!!!!!!!

  • Są w życiu chwile magiczne Gosia!!! A czas jaki dzieliliśmy razem do nich należał!! Kocham Cię bardzo!

  • @victorFbaradit think..

  • IT TOO MY FAVOURITE MUSIC

  • awesome:)

  • I like his live performances better than listening to the studio album, because this way the music is really present, I can feel all the elements.

The CD player somehow is simplifies this music for me.

  • Wow! JMJ is known for his 'larger than life' stage presence and light shows but this one is all about the music. The addition of the other musicians adds so much texture and depth to an already very large sound. Epic!

  • so Don´t Listen to it... i bet you Couldn´t play this

  • Oh yes I remember this one. It's so damn awesome!

  • vive jm jarre french

  • To davidgtr, as much as I respect JMJ, Wakeman(Yes) Banks(Genesis) and many more were pioneers before him.

  • Its live, deal with the facts, and stop putting down legends, because thats what your doing, if your just gunna critisize what he does FUCK OFF

  • i lol'd at the bottom 2 comments :I you made my day!

  • this is a video that really proves he isn't playing LIVE. The orchestra is, but JMJ hasn't even his keybords plugged in....

  • don't you know what is wireless audio???

  • right and u can tell this because ur SUCH a big expert......he is been doing this for years this is the man that made sythesizers famous,k now why the fuck would he not play live .....its not like he is a pop singer that cant sing and needs to lipsync... HE CAN play!! so dont discredit such a accomplished person

  • It feels like I had come back to outerspace, to my home again.

    I love this.

  • wow awesome!

  • the best live artist EVER!!! look how he knows how to manipulate those lasers!! mmmmmm

  • könnt ihr spanier nicht mal in einer verständlichen sprache schreiben???????????????

    danke!!!!!!!!!

  • Hahaha! :D Maybe we could all write in Swedish, then I would understand everything?! ;))

  • P.S.

you could use google's translation site, but it's not the best solution... ;)

  • Das Spanisch können definitiv mehr Leute verstehen als unser Kauderwelsch.

    Me gucho.

  • @Goth108: Hehe!

  • uste...etá sabiamente correcto..."Le golpe"...rsrsrs..kkkkkk...lol

  • does anyone know the name of one of jean Michelle jarre song where there is a child singing ? I cant find it anywhere. this child had the voice of an angel.

Any more clues on the song (lyrics, tempo, etc)?

  • WOW!!! He actually has a choir and orchestra!! I can't imagine how would feel to be there !! AMAZING! Thanx for up.

  • OMG this is wonderful!

    THNX for posting!

  • This is Rendez-vous 2, not rendez-vous... :P

The laser harp is the best part in it.

  • This in my opinion is possibly the best JMJ concert I have ever seen, compared to the god-awful Destination Docklands and the somewhat mediocre Twelve nights of the Sun in Egypt. Why? Because it has amazing stage direction and edited so smoothly that almost as if you were there yourself. The amazing cuts between shots seem to blend so well together, and the great close up on JMJ's unsmiling face makes the concert look truely terrifying! Amazing concert.

  • Wow, great comment! :) Yes, it's a very nice experience to be watching and listening to this. I also like the added orchestra and choir, both music-wise and watching them perform.

I'm sorry though that it's not the best quality here, this one should be at least in 'HQ', or on a big screen! :)

    Thanks for watching and commenting!

  • You make it sound as though you don't get many positive comments XD

What have you got to be sorry for? We should PRAISE you for uploading the concert - or at least segments anyway.

The irony of this of this is that JMJ is the same guy who inspired me to record band and edit them JMJ style - Synchronised, smoothly and using the correct cuts to the music.

(That reminds me - any advice for some newbie starting to record gigs? I want it to look as pro as possible...)

    Again, many thanks to you!

  • Haha, ok, thanks again! :) Well, I just thought it was a 'longer' comment than most, describing why the clips is good etc.

This show was broadcast live, so considering that, I guess it was even 'better' work from all involved then, no post-editing or anything. And as far as I know, this was the only song he played here. He made a speech or story before the song, but I haven't posted it; having to split the video at 10 minutes here makes it weird to not have it all in one go?!

  • It is quite an eyesight to think that this was produced while it was live, so they couldent really do clear any screwups in the editing labs.

the funny thing is, I am trying to produce a concert in a JMJ style - Fluently, smooth, and incredibly scarily, but recording a rock concert with only one entry-level concert might prove to be a problem.

Any tips on recording concerts by the way?:

  • No, I'm sorry, I don't know much about filming, lol! But I do enjoy watching gigs, both live and on tv. I guess sometimes the contact with the audience is lost on tv, not showing more than a distant crowd or silhouettes of them, but I don't know if it would be possible to get that on film... that's my only 'tip' I think. I'm sure someone here knows more though. Good luck! :)

  • Una obra de arte...

  • I wish I had been there.

  • what a show, really awesome

  • agnepath!

  • if u like this wierdo look up The residents, there awesomesly creepy :)

  • FANTASTIC!! :D

  • I miss, good old days, when he used to play with the band.

  • Well, the sound is propably from a synth triggered via midi from the laser light, so no 'laser sound' here :) . However, I think this video might be a bit out of sync, but I don't think the music is playback anyway... or? :)

  • I don't think it's playback either and the laser harp certainly works, it's a MIDI controller just like you said, but I'm not convinced that JMJ himself is actually playing the important parts all the time.

  • Yep. The laser harp is just a midi trigger and is real. I don't know about current methods but JMJ used make a lot of use of other musicians for live playing and triggering 'live' samples all synchronised via SMPTE code, MIDI clocks etc... Not exactly a backing track but the sounds you hear are 'performed', if not generated, live.

  • Hmmm... Really? I thought the laser harp is merely a pressure sensitive laser which when tripped and using the correct hand movement sets of a series of pre-recorded sounds. Curving your hand, for example, makes a wah wah noise.

(But what you said about the "trigger" Is that essentially the equivilant to a person striking a key on a keyboard - The buttons make contact and the electric passes through?)

Correct me if I am wrong, however...

  • The one in this clip is certainly a MIDI trigger, capabale of sending more than just one control parameter (on / off) - though most laser harps do just that (because of the nature of a light beam being broken is rarely gradual) . You can add sensors to measure the distance you hand was from the source to give volume control, multiple lasers per note modulation or other effects e.g. distortion. All of these effects would be triggered via MIDI.

  • Los pelos como escarpias de principio a fin!

  • Wow! This is simply amazing! good performance and great show! Amazing work...

  • Just looove Jarre, his old stuff that is... It has a kind of offworld-ish quality to it and an ambience that no other musicians have come close to.

But what the hell has happened to his looks? He's starting to look like a mad professor :)

  • this is my favourite, it's simply genius! it doesn't even sound human, incredible Jean!

  • amazinggggggg

  • La pell de gallina!!!

  • the laser harp is for real and it works

  • how do you know? heh

  • urm...it's nothing really that new, invented by Bernard Szajner late seventies i think but it's just a MIDI controller really. The sound that Jarre triggers with it is derived from an Elka Synthex preset.

  • Beautiful!

  • wow cool! when was this concert held?

  • Check the video info ;) .

This was the only thing he performed, at least what was shown on TV.

  • this song a rendez-vous is best on the best song for a synthetizer music and concert le manifique!!!!!!!! but it is a mine opinion :)))
