  • But will it blend?

  • Is this amp suitable for pedals? Cause i am thinking about buying a few pedals and getting into the world of pedals..

  • @Raxu94 don't use pedals on this man. Get a REAL amp for pedals. Full tube, OR at least a Valve Reactor. It just won'at work right.

  • I didnt know chino moreno played guitar so well

  • Please tell me what pickups that you're using in this vid.Great showing of this amp.Thanx.

  • Rob Math can ROCK!!!

  • it's a good modeling amp and does pretty well at lower outputs (1.5 W or 0.5W). You can get them used for about $75, as the model is now discontinued (the, IMO, inferior Roland Micro KILLED the DA5 in sales...)

The successor to the DA5 - Mini 3 - sucks. It isn't even a Vox design, it's just a design from a Chinese OEM that Vox is rebranding and importing. I'll bet you that Vox gets bought out by another maker soon...

  • Show off :p

  • this guy's a killer

  • how many watts is it?

idk this amp could be 60 to 100 dollars at guitar center

  • @emavalens24

5 watts. but it's discontinued, the follow up is the mini 3.

  • how loud can it get

  • @MARIOSSP62 I have one and...it's not loud enough for gigs

  • It's the guys fingers man.

  • whats the 1 on the left?

  • awesome

  • Ace playing there guy! SUPERB!

  • What's the difference between open back and closed back sound? Never heard of this before.

  • It's an interesting piece of equipment.

But for around 120 US$ more or less (139$ at the US VOX shop on "shop.korgusa.com" which is the main distributor), it's a rip off.

You can't use compression and reverb at the same time ???

For about the same price you'll be better of with a Line6 ... from FAR.

  • if only this had a footswitch.

  • he said tiny little package

  • I keep waiting for his momma to come in and tell him to turn it down,

  • This amp is amazing! It goes hella loud and the effects are great! The only problem is mine doesn't work when unplugged! And yes I have new 6 C batteries in it!

  • Doesn't sound like the sound is coming out of the speaker is this DI'd? in the last scene he's playing from the car, but can't see any mic?

  • @ta11438 When the camera pans you can hear the sound change same as when your playing and you move around your amp the sound changes. im thinking it was real. but hey you never know.

  • im thinking about getting one i like the way that strat sounds too badass

  • Lol no one notices that the amp is Miced. Also the guitar could have been modded to have more gain or etc, but who knows it's just a thought.

  • wow he was getting those tones straight form the amp?! now thats nice

  • 3:35 Time to turn to the Hard Rock Highway 808 :D

  • this amp is great it has no problem with volume if your practicing or at a small gig and the effects tyles it can give out are awesome a great all round amp

  • I have this amp and just love it! I sure as hell don't sound like this guy but hey everything takes time. He's damn fine though! I put my little might might through it 's paces everyday. Forget about the Roland Micro cube. This wins hands down!

  • it's a great amp. I have one. . sounds exactly the way he demo'd it...mike or no mike.

  • HOW DOES THE 5 WATT HAVE MORE GAIN THAN THE 50? WTF

  • I'm looking for a small cheap amp just to have at home to practise on, because my old one's really crap. Is this a good amp for that?

  • @Raxu94 Yes, it would be awesome!

  • @Raxu94 Definitely!

  • Did anyone else notice that he's got it hooked up to a microphone? Kind of nullifies the demo.

  • @mtnmanjak Obviously he would have to hook it up to a microphone for recording. You wouldn't use the camcorder's audio system because it is not meant for the high volume guitar amp. The microphone is not hooked up to an amplifier, but to its own recording system to then transfer to the video.

  • @mtnmanjak

would maybe so that we can hear it..... kinda need a microphone to record the audio...

  • @mtnmanjak

He's using it without mic in the end of the video.

  • great sound congratulations

  • I got the exact same guitar, but not the same skills. This guy rules.

  • he is stuck in the 50's lol

  • This guy is bad ass

  • i know its battery powered but can you ALSO plug it into a wall?

  • @thesniper1191

Yes, it comes with an AC adaptor. I imagine the battery life is not great -- this thing is LOUD!

  • what song is he playing at 1:06 ? :D soundds great!

  • Sigh. I dislike that this is more an exhibition, as opposed to an actual review of the amp.

  • I once bought a pair of brown trousers - after an hour I realised it had been a bad idea. FACT: brown trousers kill any record deal far more effectively than the beard...

  • Great practice-amp!

  • Two of my good buddies have that amp and it delivers GREAT sound in a tiny package.

  • his beard-thing is so annoying. he'd probably have a record deal if it weren't for that.

  • What song was at 1:01? Or was it original. It sounds so familiar.

  • @finalassault yeah i had the same feeling. it sort of had a u2 vibe

  • Got the 10W version (dual speaker) on ebay for $60! These are easily the best practice amps out right now. If you can't sound good playing through this - you should be practicing...

  • sweeet it got into my mind ,,,,

but does it hve a pedal input ??

  • @faqoosy idnt think so cuz if it does it will be too good to be true

  • BEST DEMO EVER!

  • Damn, That Guy's good! (Steve Martin)

  • i love vox amps!!

  • amazing I have one at home I've buyed it last week and i'm impressed it's very loud for 5 watts!! I could play all what I want there is also a wah wah sound CRAZY

  • Is this amp digital effects wise or full digital?

  • What does he play at 1:17? or what is it inspired by?

  • @12OclockLow it sounds like vaughan.. listen RIVIERA PARADISE

  • Amazing sound.

  • Whats crazy is that this is a portable amp and no one has filmed it being outside, except this guy. Come guys lets get out there and start playing to the world!

  • I'm interesed in getting this amp because I need something small to take to band practice every saturday. The only thing that puts me off is I don't know if it would be loud enough as the other guitarist has a 15 watt Line 6 spider.

  • I own the DA5. It's great as a practice amp and for direct recording. It can also get pretty loud but it's not going to have the same guts as a larger amp in a band practice or live situation. A larger solid state amp (Vox DA20, Vox Valvetronix, or Line 6) might be better for band practice but it's more to lug around.

  • @sflindy or a VOX Pathfinder 15r if you're looking for a good solid state, its only around $120 too so you can't beat the deal!

  • one thing im wonderin is would this be loud enough to busk with??

  • what model of strato is it?

  • @estavaldra American Deluxe Ash Strat.

  • i love my da5. since i didnt like the speaker's tone i just run it as a preamp into my marshall... absolutely love it!!!

  • my father present this to me today and this amp rocks with one word!

    i really recommend it!

  • You play great! The last shot rocks

  • @HellsHighwayTrooper It also comes with a power cord/adapter.

  • The only thing that puts me off this amp is that its battery powered.

  • Don't you worry, it can run off of A/C also.

  • You can use an AC adapter too

  • Do you know what options on the amp produces the first distorted sound effect he had?

    Thanks!

  • this amp does sound in realitiy like in this vid.

I ordered it to try it.

  • because its mic'd thats why its sound like a cabinet amp or whatever big amp

  • i think he's probably using the other valvetronix in the back

  • No, he isn't, that is actually the sound of the DA5. I own a DA5 as well as a valvetronix AD 100 VTXL, and thats definitely the sound of the da5.

  • i wanna know the name of the song at 1:10 ! i've been searching sooo long

  • The reason it sounds so good is because the guy in the video is a really good player and you guys have probably been playing for six months.

  • @jodygrind69 Tone's all in the hands that play

  • @jodygrind69

of course, but would YOU advertise your products with a complete noob?

  • @jodygrind69

That's not quite correct, it really has an incredible sound (compared to other 5W-15W-amps) and the fact that the guy in the video is a good player is not the only reason it sounds good. I play guitar since 11 years and use it at home for practice and I was surprised by the sound of that liitle amp, when i played it first time. its my personal favourite in it's price range. but i know what you mean, for beginners it would sound great, even if he played with a crappy amp.

  • @jodygrind69 You can get really good in six months. . . if you practice for at the very least 3 hours each day . . . .____.

  • @jodygrind69 Of course, and because he has the amp mic'd up.

  • How come his amp sounds amazing? Mine sounds terrible.

  • because these guys are promoting it, so they added bass and stuff.

  • I'd say being mic'd has a ton to do with it.

  • fender stratocaster

  • try fixing up the feedback by holding the tap button down while the bypass light is on and moving the edit 1 knob to the right when i do that it sounds gr8

  • its all the same shit...

i bough a micro spider and it sounds way better in the tests all over the web... and in the reality not so much

  • micro spiders have a really good distortion sound to it, i really like it but i use a VOX amp

  • he said "awesome" twice in the first 24 seconds, that's enough for me; goodbye.

  • @incongra he's a guitarist . not Shakespeare....at least he didn't keep saying "killer"....

  • @incongra lmao

  • @incongra Give him a break man.. He probably ripped a fat bowl before recording this

  • @incongra hehe,i agree

  • fucking good, the amp and the player!

  • anyway, i thought i'd post a long message since i've had such a long time with that amp and a crappy guitar. It performed well and i've recorded on it with a preamp with my casino (check profile). but the main problem when you start out is information.

I was really out after clean sounds but didn't know where to start.

for those likeminded i would recommend the Vox Pathfinder 10. found out about it just now. Costs less, authentic wonderful tube sound. Not many switches to experiment with thou

  • Ohwell, you're talking like this amp is geared towards beginners. Not really. It is meant as a portable practice amp, or something you can take to small gigs... And yes, it does sound great. The Spider 3 15w is hands down one of the worst modeling amps I've ever had the oppurtunity to play through. If you want a tube amplifier, you could always go Epi Jr. and mod or get a Little Giant or Killer Ant...

  • come on, sounds great? it's a digital amp man.

try the VT series by the same company for only 100$ more you get a superior combo amp with tubes.

i agree about the spider 3 thou. It did really suck. Had good effects thou,

  • You're thinking of it beyond a practice amp. I have a Fender Twin, a Orange Tiny Terror, a old Kingston Halfstack, a Blackheart Little Giant and a Blackheart Handsome Devil, as well as the DA5, all of them with tubes, and none of them even come close to the DA5 in terms of portability and usefulness as a practice amp. No messing with my pedalboard, just bring that along and its all I need. It sounds great when you replace the speaker, and even better through nice headphones- I use Etymotic ER4's

  • indeed, that's because it never was a practice amp for me. It was all i had.

As a practice amp STRICTLY, and using only when not in the prescence of superior gear it is actually very good, i used to take it out to the country to play on.

But i play at home a lot and i started out on this because it came with the package as do many, and then you're sitting in the shit, cause you'd really want a tube if you'd know the difference.

So it's a difference in perspective i guess. point taken

  • the guitar he uses is probably in a pricerange far outside anything anybody who would buy this amp would afford.

The problem is that the guitar goes with the amp and when you start out you'll probably have a cheap McGuitar that you keep until you figure out what kind of style and equiptment you like. I've played on that amp for a year, up until summer last year, and what i've learned in those two years has changed the entire way i look on music.

  • i'm gonna go ahead and say i didn't really like the DA 5 amp. IT's priceworthy when you're new, but eventually i found out that using clean 2 and a preamp for dist will produce a much better sound than anything you can get on the switcher.

effects are good but you'll end up using reverb most of the time.

I'd recommend it if you were new, it's versatile but even the poor Spider 3 sounds better imo. Or maybe i just got too used to it.

  • I think you just got used to the shitty sound of the Spider III. They're some of the worst amps ever produced, especially the 15 watt model. Just thinking about it makes me angry that Line 6 actually manufactures such a pile of shit.

  • ya, the spider 3 is shit

but rather, i think i just got used to the shitty effects of the DA5 and liked how the spider 3 was more useable with a gainpedal, because it had so little gain itself. with the DA5 it got really brittle fast, with the spid 3 i never took the pedal off and often used it on max level 50% gain just for a decent sound.

now i have a vox ac4tv and couldn't be happier, or well i could but not in that price range, just 100€ more than either these amps. real tube

  • @ohwell121

i know what ya mean, i used to have a spider 3, I HATED it, it sounded so fake.

now ive got my eye on the vox ac4tv.

  • So true, when I visit my cousin I have to use his Line 6 and it's tone almost makes me puke compared to my Recto back home.

  • It's an awsome amp. I own one. My son and I use it for sidewalk buskin. Battery life is LONG. Didn't need to mic it in the first half of the video - it's great with just the camera's mic. It's about $130 US. Road worthy and can take a beating. Think twice on buying the "Classic" version. I love how it looks - better than the other versions, but it doesn't have the protective metal grid. If you're not going to throw it in the trunk of your car, the Classic is okay. Otherwise, get the black.

  • god sounds like heaven

  • that was fantastic. Good demo.

  • with the skills like that , does it matter what kinda amp u use?

  • Uh yeah... I can never tell how anything sounds when this guy plays because he can make anything sound great!

  • Buying the AMP is the easy part, sounding like him is the light at the end!

  • i was going to get the cube street but this is les than half the price, sounds better and looks better too, definitely getti'n it !!

  • Ok I need opinions. Which one is better the Roland Micro Cube or Vox DA5?

  • I have one of these and it's about the best guitar thing I've ever bought, dollar for dollar.

    The heavy sounds are incredible.

  • the sound it's not like this... he used a microphone to amplify the sound and make it better.

  • The mic placed in front of the amp might just connect to the camcorder. Let's face it, the inbuilt camcorder mic isn't gonna do the sound any justice.

In the last bit, from the car, you can hear how the tone from the camcorder mic varies heaps depending on the position and direction of the camcorder.

Other folks seem to be happy with it.

  • Fuck he shreds!

  • i've fot one of these now and i am very happy with it!! great range of effects. also goes LOUD!!!

  • anyone tell me,micro spider or this one?

  • Yeah... getting that amp on wednesday !

  • damn i almost one of these little things...i think it might be better than my microcube..

  • Nah, trust me, Microcube is better.

  • I tried the cube and thought it was crap... but there is no best. Just different.

  • awesome!! haha yeh i want your playing too

  • lol lok how worn down the fretboard is :O :P

  • i love the "John-Mayer-Part" - 1:15

  • wow you get some nice bluesy leads, hi gain distortion, and coooooool cleans

  • me got this amp

  • me too, and I like it, I dont had to buy effect pedals :D

  • Well, no unless you want to take ages switching between effects..

  • I think this guy can sounds cool also playing a baseball bat trough a washer :$

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaamen

  • i got one of those, i make all videos on them, its not the best sound, i cover it with a T shirt to cover up all the fuzz, but once you do that it sounds pretty good.

  • just bought one, so cool.

  • amazing guitar playing. nice

  • sick car...fatty white walls

  • how much would u resale one that has only been used 10 times???

  • 70 bucks would be ok.

  • thanx

  • this is by far the best practice amp.

  • You got something on your chin...

  • sounds very nice

  • does anybody know the name of the so he plays @ 1:10 when he says he wants to get a nice bluesy tone? i fucking digg that tune! thx

  • Settings: Blues2, Gain at 2 o´clock, Tone at 1 o´clock, Master at 11,30, Edit1 at 11, Effects at Reverb.

Plus a guitar with deasent single coils...

    Hope I´d naild it,

    Cheers

  • Sorry Clean 2 not blues 2

  • I think you're thinking of Chitlins Con Carne or something?

  • I had no idea Mehmet Okur could play guitar.

  • For everyone in melbourne, australia.... i picked this up for $169 at Manny's Guitars... North Fitzroy. Incredible sound. For the american's out there this is like $200 (i think) for yo which is still a great price.

  • not only is the amp awesome, but also does this guy know how to play a guitar!

  • Hey thanks, I think I will get one for my Tele.

    Great chops too!!!

  • Vox the man, i mean, Vox the amp!

  • this amph is amazing. it has everything you want. but i miss an equalizer, where i can put more bass in for example

  • I've got one.

    It's great!

  • Vox AmPlug Metal headphone guitar amp

that's the one that I might be getting..

Do you think it HAS to have headphones in it, or would it be like this?

  • Ampl;ug need headphones. theres no external speaker. If you want one to use without headphones this is the smallest you get from vox.

  • How do you play along to songs with this amp?

  • with the aux input

  • gotta love this amp. im in a club at my school where we bring our own guitars and amps, and a lot of kids bring large setups, but my DA5 keeps up with the sound level.

  • I dont know how the hell this guy gets that tone when he plays blues. I own this amp and i cant get it.

  • fingers my friend. anything this guy plays on will sound ok

  • thats true he plays REALLY GOOD

  • i have a question for users of this amp, does it sound like on this video?its hard to believe that this little amp sounds so good.

please answer my question i dont know buy this or not

  • YES ! it's awsome and only like $60-80 brand new, I use it, it's just great for 10 watt and multi effect/amp sound...mmmmmm

  • Is this Vox better then the line 6 micro spider?

  • Dear lord, its much better than the piece of shit Line 6 spider micro 15. That is one horrible amp. This amp kicks it's ass.

  • its $140...
