if you think all D3 players are terrible you've obviously probably never even played competitive tennis. some of the kids at this level are fuckin amazing.. they're better than the 3.5-4.5 dorks you hack around with at the country club or at the park.

@turdferguson2 Definitely, I know a kid who played at a professional training camp in Argentina who was one of Delpotro's colleagues who is now playing at a small Div III school. He's wiping the court with his opponents, mind you, but he's there nonetheless. One might be surprised at the quality of tennis represented in some Division III schools.

People often misinterpret D3 athletes as those kids who didn't get Division 1 offers because they weren't good enough.

On the contrary. The best D3 players had offers to D1 schools but chose D3 for various reasons, commonly to prioritize academics.

The best division 3 teams (WashU, Emory, Amherst, etc.) can all compete with average D1 teams. Many players that transfer from D1 to D3 often end up getting beaten by D3's best.

D3 has gotten much better. I'd put some D3 players up against a lot of good D1 players. Check the top schools. You'll see a lot of top 50 Juniors going to D3. I'd rather play for a good d3 team as opposed to a mediocre d1 anytime. Whats the difference. Your not going to college to be a pro. Maybe a couple make it.
