  • I agree that jody paved the way, but Madonna is a year older than Jody

  • Jody really impressed me with her sophisticated, sexy, savvy, but once upon time

so shy voice. She paved her own way as a trend-setter. Much love to Jody!!!!

  • When I used to listen to Shalamar back in the day no one ever thought it would produce this great singer.. girlfriend was sooooooooooooo shy!. Jody was the best female pop soloist of the mid to late 80's....her and ANITA.

  • This song was a hit when I passed my high school and became an unemployed, so those days I listened to it at home....sweet commemoration huh?

  • Yes I love this song!...CLASSIC

  • Jody Watley paved the way for singers like janet jackson, selena and madonna. Janet jackson selena, and madonna were children when watley was making music and i see alot of jody watley's style in madonna, selena and ms.Jackson. Jody is an original.I love her:)

Funk & roll Rebel.

  • What do you mean they were hot times?? If your 42, that means in 1978 you were only 12. Probably still playing with dolls...

  • well first of all i never played with dolls, and yea i was 12yrs old and i remember every thing about the music and things that were going on. you act like 12 is to young to enjoy whats going on............. so back up off me. i was playing with all the girls in my home town at 12. thats how i roll. you can call me daddy.

  • What 12 year olds do and shouldn't be doing are 2 different things. I guess it all depends on parenting.

  • riiiiight, well i guess your a expert on the subject. it was the 70's so it is what it is. and my mom and dad did a fine job with my brother and i so you sould watch what comments you make about people's parents. WOW i like youtube but its asshole's like you that mess up the site have a great life.

  • First of all I never meant to put you down in the first place. You are a very hostile person. If you want to get hostile fine. It shows you have no class. If you want to turn this into a nasty thing fine, I never meant for it to go that way. I was just making an innocent observation. And how the fuck do you know I"m not an expert on this?? Maybe I am, you don't know. Go take some prozac god knows you need it. Better yet, maybe u need some dick.

  • once again you dont know shit.......... and i dont need any dick as you say i have 9 1/2 inchs of that in my pants thank you very much.and i have plenty of class, for those that know me. i dont know how old you are but you talk like a little kid. PROZAC???????? yea what ever.

  • I talk like a kid? So do you! And your extremely immature. You put a new meaning to angry black man.

  • only half black and not mad.take care Ma.

  • It brings me memories from watching late night videos on TBS in the late 80s.

    xoxo

  • Wow!I just found out she's my cousin!

  • She was an is one of the greatest singers out there. She is a gift from God.This song is reall heart felt God Speed.

  • I remember this song from when I was really little but I never knew it was Jody Watley. What year did this song come out?

  • Spring 1989.

  • this song is legendary much love from the legend himself chris broady

  • they need to bring this type of music back

  • they need to bring this type of music back

  • Now you are talking!!!

I hate these 2000s RnB especially Keyesha Cole, Neyo, T-Pain, Alesha Keys, Mary J, Akon.

We need Real RnB back like her, SWV, Sade, Excape, Stephanie Mills, En Vogne

  • First, Mary J. has been around since before Xscape, SWV and En vogue. Second, I agree she's not what she used to be but she's not completely terrible now. Keyshia Cole, Ne-Yo and Alicia Keys are few of the recent people who can actually carry a tune and pay homage to prior R&B legends like those you mentioned.

  • Keyshia Cole, Ne-Yo, Alicia Keys? I dont think so. I'll go for John Legends, Jill Scott, Erika Badu the best nowadays. I wish that D'Angelo will comeback too.

  • See, I'm not a fan of any of those people you said. And those people I mentioned I didn't say they were the best, I just think they are the few new young people who pay homage to the golden era of R&B.

  • I am surprised that that comment was made about Alicia Keys!!! I must agree with you. While I am not a major fan of the undeserving title of "neo soul", I enjoy some of these artists (though only a couple he mentioned). Many folks get upset at other performers if they are not deemed as doing "real music". so this debate could go on forever...

  • oooooh, I must interject... I just had a discussion sort of like this. it doesn't pay to argue...

I have no idea if you dislike these artists because the receive 24-hour radio spins or not, but these artists do pay homage to their predecessors. Alicia Keys (Aretha Franklin, Steveland Morris, Donny Hathaway); Ne-Yo (Michael Jackson)...

All of the artists you have an affinity for appeal to the less flashy lounge set...

Oh...John Legend switched his style...he's Hollywood now...

  • This music is good

  • I was 15 when this came out and it still sounds fresh 18 years later. Can't say the same about today's crap and BS. Long live old school.

  • Yup, just like the sayin gos,"dont know what you got till its gone!! But why wait till its to late? If you love someone then let it show and hold her close to you and let her know that your her man. With alot of love care and respect!!!

  • I can't believe this song is 18 years old.....half a lifetime for me.....I was 17 years old when I first heard this in spring 1990.

  • Yeah Im gonna cry when this is 20 years old, We just cant go back to early 90s, late 80s anymore. I might as well Kill myself.

  • u r my eveything Latoya Shavia

  • Like she sings,"You were my everything". A real to come along takes time sometimes even years. It shouldnt say were, cause love never dies. Some people love someone a life time although that person has left a long time ago.If you love some one from the heart. Its a love that never dies. I mean never!!!

  • OK there Mr songwriter.

  • GReat video and song. Just bringing back som ememories to my mind......mmmmmhhh those 80's !!!

  • u know how lucky some of us are that we actually know what real music is,lets be real i stop listening to crap on the radio these days and i luv music.Rap i totally lost intrest in cuz its not the same, all the songs are either about money they dont have, hoes they cant get,or whateva,so please God when i die, please have real music upstairs waiting for me,lol

  • Magic song

    Very good song

  • love this song

  • i discovered jody then shalamar, forget janet or paula abdul - jody is queen of rnb.

  • Rhianna NOT, lol...Stop hating on Jody

  • I love this video. The live concert footage. Laidback and nostalgic

  • Wonderful, sweet, nice JODY...even better than when she was singing with Shalamar!!!

  • Golden.Love the way she dance.

  • This is my most favorite Jody Watley song!

  • cool video

  • wow this song is the shit.........

  • I really love this track.. really really feel it!

  • Old but still very relevent....

I miss my baby. we seperated right now.

  • She's like a black Madonna for R&B LOL!

  • this joint was sooooo HARD [:-( (makes me think about my baby, when we split ...) sing this joint to that special someone you want back and you've GOT 'em !!!

  • am bout to sample this, lol

  • this one takes me back

  • Reminds me of 8th grade, damn

  • i liked jody because she had her own style.even though she won a grammy she was under rated to me. when you look back at her videos and her style back then people copied her.

  • This was my jam....

  • a psycho once sent me a tape with this song recorded on both sides after that pshyco had left me hanging out of fear that l was not in love too, well, that psycho like, stalked me for years, but l found something better, this song is a reminder of a triumph for me, l did not give in to a beggar. -l thought about replying to that psycho with a tape with "Looking for a new love" by Ms Watley too...

  • This is my FAVORITE song from the "Larger Than Life" album

  • people!!! this is a real love song..one of my favorites..Love u Jody.

  • I love this song...i jammed it then and I still jam it today..

  • myspace dot com slash jodywatley

she will be happy to hear from you!

  • Too comment shawnzulma!!! When you're thirty life is still beginning!! Being thirty is great!! I continue to educate people about this so-called new music that is out!! All the songs I hear these days are remixes or do overs of older songs...Maybe your life is over but mines is just begining!!!

  • to comment Jaydon79, I meant the youth you have when you are in High school/middle school. We all know that is never coming back. Live it up while you are still there. The life we live now is not over but it is different then back then

  • That does take me back, seeing the clothing and the whole atmosphere, wow.

  • Memories of College Freshman year!

    thanks for sharing.

  • I still love Jody. Her voice has that candy-stripped appeal, a little monotone and nasaled but I just like it. I wish Shalmar would do a reunion while they are still relatively young and able to function. I hope they don't try to do it on walkers when its to late....lol. just kidding.

  • The woman has talent

  • wow brings back good memories...

  • I feakin miss he late 80's. Early 90's too! I was born in 76 and I wish I could go back to it all. Kids, listen to us old folks. Enjoy your youth now. Take full advantage of every opportunity, silly or not. Ask her or him out! Go to that party. Just kiss em! Don't wait. I know you feel on top of the world now but trust us, that sensationalism wont last forever. When your 30 and its all over you will regret all kinda things when hear the songs back from your day.

  • Why you hit the nail on the head? I'm a 76 baby too. the mid 80's, early 90 was off the hook. Life seemed to be simple then. Now That I'm 29+1 years old..LOL! I do wish I can just back for a few minuts if not days.

    Holla Back...

  • Blackpeper..."Let's Chill,Let's Settle Down,That's,What I Wanna Do,Just Me & U,Let's Chill, Let's Settle Down,That's What I Wanna Do,Just Me & U"...Amen! Haha I hear ya +1 year older than 29. No doubt life was more simple back then. I try to tell these younglings but hey, We never listened either so they prob wont either. But daymn, If I find a time machine laying around I will give you a holla!

  • One More Thing! Don't forget "Lets Chill".

    Holla...

  • I sung this song my sophmore year at my High school talent show and won LOL real talk

  • I think this song saved the union from a 'Civil War'

  • She probably has the choice to be with anyone she wants, she is just scared to follow through.

  • back in 80s i was only between ages 10 or 15 and it was the best time of mi life..

  • It makes me sad watching such a great era and artist on the brink. I think many of the artist in the 80's had a difficult time making a transition. Things change.

  • i think u missed a lot !!!! she released her 9th album last year. she just had her 11th nr one single in the american dance charts...she is not dEAD!!!!! but better than ever before. buy all of her cd´s cuase the last three were electron
