I've had my DR for 6 years and I'm pretty sure I've never used the decomp on it. Starts within 5 kicks no matter the situation. I have a pumper carb and not the CV so maybe thats why. DR for life, I love my bike and she has never let me down.
nope im with you man, my dr is a bitch after not running for a while.... right now the stupid thing will not start.... i need to tear it apart and clean the plug, but i have had it for 10 years now and it has always been this way....a pain to start, for a while i was the only one who could start it, half the time im too worn out after kicking for 15 min.....they are pesky things sometimes
Then I have a fairy bike. Had it for 3 years and I never had such problems. Only me who can start it tho. I think there is some summers of experience behind it!
Now how do I do that? First turn the gas on. Second pull the choke all the way out. Third make sure the killswitch is on. Fourth pull the decompression lever in and HOLD IT DOWN. Then kick it ten times. Then release the decompression lever and then bring the kick starter back up. Then one HARD kick and it will fire up every single time. Try cleaning your carb out. So I guess I have a bike from the Carburetion Fairy.
To start your Dr350 on first kick, first pull and hold the comp release and kick 10times as fast as you can with the fuel off to clear the cylinder, second turn fuel on and pull choke out to full choke and kick, it WILL start, dont touch the throttle at any point during this procedure or it will not start. If this does not work you may need to check and see if it has lost compression, out of time, or needs carb work done, Im just telling you what works for me. Good luck
the logic of what i said . when the piston is gowing down if the decopressor is on it wont create vacum in the the cilinder so it wont suck gas from carburetor it wil suck only air fron decompression valve
pull the decompressor only when the piston riches maximum compression and only then ! kick it 5 or six times like this with the choke and only then with the contact on
i had the same problem until i learned her way ,,every bike is diferent

@Kevin95866 Gosh, I can't remember. I think she was a 1992. I don't have her anymore. The DR-350s got an electric start somewhere in the late 90's.

@Bombhunden I also manages to start, mostly with 1 kick. Sometimes two. Maybe you have the wrong spark plug? It really does matter...
