So i disagree with this statement, the lyrics is what should be watched out for, not the music type... how about the rap that talks about killng ? or the rnb that talks about having sex with any living person they say ? No its the lyrics not the instruments and tones that are the problem
You can be abeliever in Jesus Christ and still listen to the music you like. I go to Christ Church in Effingham IL. Nobody has ever tried to tell me what kind of music to listen to. You may want to check out other churches. I enjoy the church i attend very much

i have just accepted christ into my heart, but i have a question, the people at church say that i should only listen to this type of music, that i should stay away from heavy metal and other types of rock, and they also tell me other types of music too. but i like those types of songs to, why cant i hear them?
@MLGRegulaR Congratulations on Accepting Christ. Welcome to the family!! I've been a Christian for years, and some of my favorite music to listen to is Aerosmith. Don't listen to those people. It is up to you to determine whether or not this type of music is what God would want you to do. The Bible clearly teaches us NOT to judge people but to accept them and love them.
@compwhiz2000 its not really the music. but its the spirit behind the music. look at Hillsong im not saying that they are bad. but in my church fellowship who live in New Zealand and Australia they say that hillsong arent the most morale people in the world. its not just the music but the spirit behind it. so remember that.
@compwhiz2000 To be precise, the Bible tells us not to judge others if we have the same problem or if we have a problem with being judged. Romans 14:10 is telling us that judging should not be done negatively, in context of the passage. Rather, it should be done with the intention of causing a positive change. Jesus called the Pharisees hypocrites and murderers in Matt 23. Peter called the people murderers in Acts 2. That sounds awfully judgmental, don't you think?
@MLGRegulaR God bless! I myself listen to heavy metal, rock, rap, but you have to remember that you should guard your heart to some of what is preached in some popular music. To enjoy it, but with any media source to be ready to turn hatred/anger/sinfulness away My advice is to look into people like flyleaf who sing both Christian and metal :). Look into the Christian rap metal so forth to replace some of what is to bad to listen to, and keep the rest! For all music types have its worthy lessons
@MLGRegulaR You will find that some of the music you used to enjoy becomes offensive to you as you become more like Jesus. I listen to instrumental rock now. The Bible says to set no vile thing before your eyes (ears). We must put aside some things even if we dont want to. Isnt he worth it ? The great thing is that I enjoy rock now as much as before but now im not allowing false doctrines and evil suggestions into my mind.

I was once addicted to death metal, underground punk, and at times rap; but eventually as you grow in the word of God(Bible) you will learn to love him more, and all that you once loved (such as rock) will pass away from your mind, and will no longer be desired.

@MLGRegulaR (hoping my first post will be accepted or this won't make much sense) Those giving you the advice probably want your influences as a Babe In Christ, to be as positive as possible. So they are well-intended. But if other types of music lift you up in some way and make you happy then go for it. I can listen to Aerosmith, Willie Nelson, Delbert McClinton, etc...and enjoy them. It's my personal choice not to listen to types of music that talk about killing, gangs, etc.

@MLGRegulaR I have been a Christian most of my life and like many kinds of music myself. I do have a rule of thumb I try to stick to in the kind I listen to. I try not to listen to anything that really isnt uplifting. Another words, is it something Jesus might listen to. If you ask yourself that question and are totally honest with your answer its a good guild. To me being a Christian is all about knowing Jesus and having a close relationship with Him. Your tastes may change as you grow in Him.
Congratulations!. You are born again. Old things are passed away. The word of God says that God inhabits the praises of His people (Psalm 22: 3). When you worship, praise God or listen to this kind of music, you are edified and inspired to worship God because they are inspired by God.On the other hand, those rock music or whatever music, most of them are inspired by the devil and certain demons are invoked thru them. Praise God that you have taken that step of confession, faith and repentance from sin! My friend, when I was a new "Christian" no one told me I had to turn from worldiness and sin. I drank, smoked pot and listened to music singing about sinful things. Let no one decieve you, you are the temple of God's Spirit. We are not to take part in music that has swearing, sex, drugs, violence, hatred, fornication etc. What fellowship does God's temple have with these things? God Bless! :)
The bible tells us not to be of the world. As in don't listen, wear, or watch worldly things. Other wise don't watch t.v. listen to music other than Christian music, and wear clothes that lust after your body. @MLGRegulaR Rock music deals with rebellion, despair and sexuality in ways that "proper" Christian songwriters won't. The fear of rock music became church tradition 50-60 years ago. In my experience, you CAN listen to those *without* distancing yourself from Jesus. You'll know which way to jump based on the lyrics. There -IS- Christian rock that has some life in it. Try these bands on youtube: Flyleaf, Saviour Machine, Virgin Black and former Korn guitarist Brian "Head" Welch.

@MLGRegulaR Often times, it's to protect you. This is because listening to music that isn't Godly can distract us from our purpose and negatively influence our walk with God. Often times, listening to non-Christian music opens the door to all kinds of yucky stuff, such as the idea that since an artist created one half-decent, somewhat Christian song, it is OK to listen to all of their music. Not everyone who listens to non-Christian music is unsaved, but it's easier to get to heaven without it.
@MLGRegulaR : When you give your heart to Christ, it means you are enlisted to God's army by implications. The only useful advices will come from fellow soldiers who have been on the front line before yourself got there and not from the retired soldiers who have been in Christ for some undefined number of years.

Christ should get glory in everything we do including the music we listen to. All the devil needs is a little crack and he'll cause havoc. Many christians fail to see this and listen to goddless sinful artist and allow the enemy a way into their lives. Be separated from the world says the Lord. Its not easy but as a new creature you got 2 giv it up

@MLGRegulaR i think maybe its because the people at ur church may think that heavy metal and rock and stuff is against god or his commandments and rules and stuff my best friend has the same thing going on at her church and i've even made a playlist of songs that she can listen to so i don't make a mistake and put on the wrong son. oh and congratulations on accepting the lord into ur heart!
@MLGRegulaR 1st: congrats! 2nd: one of the great things about christian music that's different from other music genres is that there are actually so many different types of christian music out there. there's christian rock songs, christian hip-hop, christian rap, and many others. you just have to start looking around. the cool thing is it really doesn't matter if you're in a church singing hymns, or listening to christian rock on your ipod in the car- if it makes you love God, it's worship.
@MLGRegulaR I would encourage you to put your music through a few tests. First of all the bible teaches us to be seperated from the world. So test the music, is it edifying? does it draw you closer to the foot of the cross? What do the words say? do they glorify God? they should. what about the music itself? is it satans music with christian lyrics? if it is it's not godly in any way. Ye CANNOT serve two masters. & remember if u play with fire u'll get burned!
@MLGRegulaR Honestly? There isn't really a reason. Listen to whatever you want to, is my opinion. I listen to Rock and Alternative and Metal and stuff. I hope the meant that they want you to stay away from Satanist stuff, but I am a bit afraid they don't actually mean that. I have an uncle who thinks that you can't listen to rock etc. if you are a christian. Ignore those kinds of people. They tend to be judgmental and hateful and in general not good examples of Christianity.
@MLGRegulaR you can listen to what ever you want its up to you, but I use to listen to tupac alll the time but as I got closer with god the more I grew away from most of tupacs songs, I still listen to some of his music but only the music that has a good message. I also still listen to rap but I listen to christian rap cause I absolutly love it. Perhaps you can find christian music in your favourite genre of music aswell :)

i have just accepted christ into my heart, but i have a question, the people at church say that i should only listen to this type of music, that i should stay away from heavy metal and other types of rock, and they also tell me other types of music too. but i like those types of songs to, why cant i hear them?

@MLGRegulaR Congratulations on Accepting Christ. Welcome to the family!! I've been a Christian for years, and some of my favorite music to listen to is Aerosmith. Don't listen to those people. It is up to you to determine whether or not this type of music is what God would want you to do. The Bible clearly teaches us NOT to judge people but to accept them and love them.

@compwhiz2000 To be precise, the Bible tells us not to judge others if we have the same problem or if we have a problem with being judged. Romans 14:10 is telling us that judging should not be done negatively, in context of the passage. Rather, it should be done with the intention of causing a positive change. Jesus called the Pharisees hypocrites and murderers in Matt 23. Peter called the people murderers in Acts 2. That sounds awfully judgmental, don't you think?

@MLGRegulaR God bless! I myself listen to heavy metal, rock, rap, but you have to remember that you should guard your heart to some of what is preached in some popular music. To enjoy it, but with any media source to be ready to turn hatred/anger/sinfulness away My advice is to look into people like flyleaf who sing both Christian and metal :). Look into the Christian rap metal so forth to replace some of what is to bad to listen to, and keep the rest! For all music types have its worthy lessons

@MLGRegulaR You will find that some of the music you used to enjoy becomes offensive to you as you become more like Jesus. I listen to instrumental rock now. The Bible says to set no vile thing before your eyes (ears). We must put aside some things even if we dont want to. Isnt he worth it ? The great thing is that I enjoy rock now as much as before but now im not allowing false doctrines and evil suggestions into my mind.

I was once addicted to death metal, underground punk, and at times rap; but eventually as you grow in the word of God(Bible) you will learn to love him more, and all that you once loved (such as rock) will pass away from your mind, and will no longer be desired.

@MLGRegulaR (hoping my first post will be accepted or this won't make much sense) Those giving you the advice probably want your influences as a Babe In Christ, to be as positive as possible. So they are well-intended. But if other types of music lift you up in some way and make you happy then go for it. I can listen to Aerosmith, Willie Nelson, Delbert McClinton, etc...and enjoy them. It's my personal choice not to listen to types of music that talk about killing, gangs, etc.

@MLGRegulaR I have been a Christian most of my life and like many kinds of music myself. I do have a rule of thumb I try to stick to in the kind I listen to. I try not to listen to anything that really isnt uplifting. Another words, is it something Jesus might listen to. If you ask yourself that question and are totally honest with your answer its a good guild. To me being a Christian is all about knowing Jesus and having a close relationship with Him. Your tastes may change as you grow in Him.

Congratulations!. You are born again. Old things are passed away. The word of God says that God inhabits the praises of His people (Psalm 22: 3). When you worship, praise God or listen to this kind of music, you are edified and inspired to worship God because they are inspired by God.On the other hand, those rock music or whatever music, most of them are inspired by the devil and certain demons are invoked thru them. Pls, glorify Christ thru music that lifts His name.Stay with Christ!

Praise God that you have taken that step of confession, faith and repentance from sin! My friend, when I was a new "Christian" no one told me I had to turn from worldiness and sin. I drank, smoked pot and listened to music singing about sinful things. Let no one decieve you, you are the temple of God's Spirit. We are not to take part in music that has swearing, sex, drugs, violence, hatred, fornication etc. What fellowship does God's temple have with these things? God Bless! :)

Other wise don't watch t.v. listen to music other than Christian music, and wear clothes that lust after your body. @MLGRegulaR Rock music deals with rebellion, despair and sexuality in ways that "proper" Christian songwriters won't. The fear of rock music became church tradition 50-60 years ago. In my experience, you CAN listen to those *without* distancing yourself from Jesus. You'll know which way to jump based on the lyrics. There -IS- Christian rock that has some life in it. Try these bands on youtube: Flyleaf, Saviour Machine, Virgin Black and former Korn guitarist Brian "Head" Welch.

@MLGRegulaR Often times, it's to protect you. This is because listening to music that isn't Godly can distract us from our purpose and negatively influence our walk with God. Often times, listening to non-Christian music opens the door to all kinds of yucky stuff, such as the idea that since an artist created one half-decent, somewhat Christian song, it is OK to listen to all of their music. Not everyone who listens to non-Christian music is unsaved, but it's easier to get to heaven without it.

@MLGRegulaR : When you give your heart to Christ, it means you are enlisted to God's army by implications. The only useful advices will come from fellow soldiers who have been on the front line before yourself got there and not from the retired soldiers who have been in Christ for some undefined number of years.
You need to grow and be nurtured, some stuff can hinder that growth you require. Be wise, trust and obey. Congrats.

Christ should get glory in everything we do including the music we listen to. All the devil needs is a little crack and he'll cause havoc. @MLGRegulaR 1st: congrats! 2nd: one of the great things about christian music that's different from other music genres is that there are actually so many different types of christian music out there. there's christian rock songs, christian hip-hop, christian rap, and many others. you just have to start looking around. the cool thing is it really doesn't matter if you're in a church singing hymns, or listening to christian rock on your ipod in the car- if it makes you love God, it's worship.

So test the music, is it edifying? does it draw you closer to the foot of the cross? What do the words say? do they glorify God? they should. what about the music itself? is it satans music with christian lyrics? if it is it's not godly in any way. I hope the meant that they want you to stay away from Satanist stuff, but I am a bit afraid they don't actually mean that. @MLGRegulaR you can listen to what ever you want its up to you, but I use to listen to tupac alll the time but as I got closer with god the more I grew away from most of tupacs songs, I still listen to some of his music but only the music that has a good message. I also still listen to rap but I listen to christian rap cause I absolutly love it. Perhaps you can find christian music in your favourite genre of music aswell :)

Uhmmm, well this is something that a group of religios people believe, that Jesus is not God, but you can find in the bilble that Jesus is God (John 1:1) as well as The Holy Spirit... God as the Father, God as the Son and God as the Holy Spirit are the same person in one.
This is something difficult to explain by chating in youtube xD, but is the very Thru, I think that if you want to konw more about it you should ask in a church. I hope you do it, bye =)

@aarontaichew1 read john chapter one. jesus christ is god manifested in the flesh, the body of god. the physical manifestation of the most high god. it can be hard to understand if you don't want to accept it, but it is the truth, and the bible makes it clear.

hmm im a christian as well.. but shouldnt Jesus be called Prince?.. he is the son of god.. and god is the lord.(Send me a message explaining the reason he is called lord and not prince, please)

Jesus is God, God is Jesus, Jesus is the King of kings, so I dont see problem calling him Lord. =).
