  • I used to make model cars and model rockets for 4H. I really wish I had the knowledge and skills that I do now when I was making them back then. I got quite a few Grand Champion ribbons on the model rockets, but something always went wrong when I was hurrying to get my model cars done in the last two nights before I had to take them to get them judged. Oh well, maybe when I have kids some day I can teach them. I'm painting an old Playstation with House of Kolor Tangerine. I'm hoping for the best

  • COPO was a special order for cars stripped ready to race right from the dealership.

  • I painted my model (bright yellow), Do I wet sand before I lay down the clear coats? The yellow looks good but it is not perfect.

    Thanks,

  • @gsbostic Yes, if you want a perfect smooth, miles deep finish. Yes.

  • @THELORDLOVESYOU1 You can use small pieces of sand paper to smooth out the surface. Go up in grades and it will be flawless.

  • Oh & Doc! I almost forgot to mention that i can't wait to see how your 3 recently purchased muscle cars come out! I know they're gonna be tight!

  • @biggstandamu Thanks, amigo.

  • What'z happenin' big doc?! Just wanted to let u know, that i really enjoyed this presentation & i've decided to get deeper into the whole wet sanding & more in depth body prep/paint procedure next year along w/a lot more scratch building! So wish me luck & take good care bro!

  • @biggstandamu Good luck, buddy, you'll have fun. I see you got a 70s Caddy in the works too. I am trying to track down one of those bad boys.

  • I did the chevelle a while back. I kinda had a crazy thing happen with the paint though. my intention was to build a miniature of a freinds show car. It had to be yellow with black ss stripes. I used the testors boyd aluma yellow pearl over a plasticote grey primer. apparently the primer reacted with the testors paint and the car came out a gold pearlish looking pea green. The color was different enough that my freind had his car painted to match the model.

  • @85sqbdy Yes, that's why it's important to put down a base coat. When I use gold, I put down a black basecoat and then the gold really sparks.

  • I left my paper in my water bucket. Thinking whats it gonna hurt. Well the water evaporated, filled it up again, let it sit for a few more weeks, then just as i needed it, the paper was trashed. It got ripped just handling it. plus is was just a bit slimmy.. take your paper out of the water when not using it people!

  • @oneslowride Yeah, you have to let the paper dry and then it will work fine again.

  • make the challenger into the car from the move vanishing point

  • @crashandcynder Thanks for the suggestion. I am going to look into it.

  • @damncranky666 yea no prob theres not to many models of tht car

  • Nice tips doc!! nothing like those late 60s to early 70s machines heh? i love them too!stay warm! its cold here too...hate it,lol

  • @samfrye1 They sure are, Sam. I love 'em, and they really take paint very well.

  • Thank you very much for your great videos they inspire me to do more and more. This video is helping me out because I'm starting a 66 Chevy Chevelle and I wanted to be piano black. And I haven't perfected the talent of making a shining model yet so this helps thanks again.

  • @jaytherat66 Thanks, Jay. I love 60s and 70s cars and if you remove all the emblems and trim, etc . . . they really can be made into great customs and street machines. All the 66 vehicles are wonderful.

  • it should also be mentioned that the adding of dish soap will remove any oils left from production and/or your hands. Love the videos Cranky. Oh yeah, i found the old ford truck i was looking for. The kit was an AMT issue (still in the plastic)!!! Awesome find and a great kit. I have a video on the begining works on it @ rlpotts99.... check it out! Have a nice day.

  • @rlpotts99 Yes, I add dishsoap all the time, and it helps keep everything clean and oil free. Great to hear you found the old Ford truck. Let's see what you do with it.

  • Thanks for the how to Doc, I always look forward to your tip videos.

Looks like you have a lot of great projects in store !

  • @TheRocketSilo I'm stocking up for the winter! LOL! Actually I go through manic periods where all I do is paint, and then I build and build and build . . . that's the usual rhythm around the Lab-RAT-ory in the winter. Some of us, though, get to play at building a new playroom! Hope that is going well.

  • Thank you very much for your videos. Your tips are always extremely helpful. Keep building and having fun

  • @faithfulcmm1972 I appreciate the kind words. Please stay tuned in.

  • Great tips! I've done all three of those models. Two of them are in videos on my channel. The Challenger has won a few awards for me. As far as what COPO is...it's a "back door" ordering system through Chevrolet to order engine option combos on cars not available through a dealership. Don Yenko used it to get the 427's in his Camaro's and Chevelle's for instance. Before that, he bought the engines and swapped them into the cars. It was a short-cut to get the engines already installed.

  • @70judgeman Thanks for the great info, buddy. Yes, your builds have been an inspiration. Keep up the great work.

  • thanks for the refresh vid. its cold here in arizona too, or maybe were jus gettin little older. lol

  • @aricars6263 Thanks, buddy. I live in Tucson for a year and boy it would get cold. Really cold and the skin would dry up.

  • Your giving them great advice there Doc, I was an autobody tech for 55 years and you are spot on.

    Have fun,

    Jim

  • @jmarksbery Thanks, Jim. Most of these things I have learned the hard way, hands on, and ready to get better every step. I thank you for your support. Best wishes, Doctor Cranky.
