Apology is appropriate, they find ways of reconciling with the holes in their stance. Its like debating in school, you are shown an argument but dont know what side youll be arguing for. A person is able to (even trained to) defend a position that they know is wrong, its like finding gaps and loopholes for a dying idea to hide in (e.g. constructing an intagible metaphysical plane). Flogging the dead horse, if you will.
Religious superstition is dying a natural death. Now that we have the internet, superstition is fading away. Good riddance. Preachers had better start looking for real jobs.
