  • Dude, I have been trying to play and replay this video over and over. You are killing me! Keep it simple, dude! Just give us the tabs for the major pentatonic scale in all 3 octaves, then the minor pentatonic perhaps in another video, then the blues scale in another separate video. This video has some great licks in it, but for someone trying to get those scales down...it is BRUTAL!!!!!

  • @coachusrey Try to learn it by ear. :) It'll help a lot more in the future.

  • Are the scales the same on any key?

  • press 2: condom

    press 3: blerp

    press 4: cock

  • Your boyfriend? Oh my Gosh!!! lol

  • That Satan & Adam shirt rocks!! T-Dub

  • Jason, Strikes me that playing the first position middle octave blues scales is an academic exercise and nobody is actually doing it. I've listened to Kim Wilson and Lee Sankey playing first position and they avoid the middle octave. Who's really doing this?

  • Hi Jason! You said to go back and find the other video on pentatonic but I looked through your page and couldn't find it! How annoying! Help a rookie out man?! I need to learn pentatonics!!!

  • Living in the north-west of the UK- there's basically no serious harmonica players in my area, but I know a lot of blues and jazz sax/guitar/piano players I like to play with a lot. When I started learning harmonica from your videos it took my playing of the instrument to a completely new level, and now 2 years on having practised using your videos and applying my own knowledge of other instruments to the

  • @Muzikman127 harmonica, I'm starting to teach harmonica lessons face to face. I can't thank you enough for all I've learned from you- without your lessons I don't think I'd be playing harp today. Now I've actually started teaching :D

  • what is the flat 7 in the key of G I thought it was e the flat 7th on a c harp is an f. Or am I just playing the wrong note. I thought cross harp was 2d3dbend4blow4dbbend4d(5Draw which is f not e)6b

  • Let Britney Aloooone !! :p

  • i need some face to face lessons!! come to slc

  • I LIKE!

  • 6 months from my last post....I picked up more this time.......but goddamn..I gotta fire off an overblow somehow.......oneday soon hopefully.

    Thanks JR.

    WOOdy

  • satan and adam shirt! awesome.

  • Jason - you're an inspiration. I've been playing harp for 30+ years with Magic Dick, Paul Butterfield,Sonny Boy II and Walter Jacobs as my primary influences. I also play saxophones and flute. When are you coming to Massachusetts? I'd love to meet you in person and jam together........PC

  • Thank you Jason for making things interesting and UNDERSTANDABLE! Your jammin' and music makes me more and more inspired. Can't express how much I appreciate what you have done.

  • Thanks!

  • Dude, I love your lessons and like you said the fact that they are for FREE. Also, I'd like to see your band live. Will you come to Buffalo, NY or have you been there already?

I gotta wonder too if there is a blues harp teacher in Buffalo. I take guitar lessons here but I'd like to take harp lessons eventually.

  • If it wasn't for the lessons I took from adam in the nineties I doubt I would be playing harp today. He made all the difference in the world

  • I took lessons from adam around the same time you did Your great I suck Granted I may be better then most people out there but compared to you I suck. Your contribution to the harmonica is immense

  • Are you coming over to London UK at all?...anyway. Great tuition, I only pick up 1% of your ability, but my harmonica playing is improving. Thank you for making these instructional vids, really appreciate them.

  • the end cracked me up

    Xp

  • you are completely correct. i play the guitar and i can pick things up 20x faster face to face than not face to face

  • thank you so much.

  • dude! your really really good at this, thanks for posting, am going to watch your other video's tight now, and if you do a show in the UK let me know

  • holy cowbell, you're a genius harp player! cheers!

  • Comment removed

  • I wish I could become a better harp player by telling you how good you are

  • I love your tips. Please...which blues harmonica would you recommend me to by??? thanks. Alex from Brazil.

  • jason I'm Rick u in Bedford tx shout if you ever get down here.yes I'm friends with Bill w 14 yrs now ,I play harp in church prisons and stuff

  • hey jason I would love to come see you guys but it would be awesome if you made your way to the nottoden blues fest in norway, I\ll def make it there.

    Jerry

  • great job,

  • anything I can do for you, would be glad to return the favor however possible (saw the band once in nyc, definitely hope to again soon).. Sorry to ask for something soo basic, and definitely out there already as well, but think you could do a really good job of it. (going directly to the scales first, couple times, and perhaps a small improv section with anything cool you'd want to share) 3:07 -scale 4:45 -scale 5:25 -showing off ;) 5:53 -best scale sequence 7:45 - 8:09 could you tab this?

  • i love hanging out and being non virtual! props to you and gussow as well, im going to the "harp woodshed" cuz of an arm injury so no guitar for a while. I would really love to ask a favor however.. I know my harping needs a ton of work, ive been playing for 10+years so have some tricks, but have some SERIOUS gaps.. namely BASIC blues scales, turnarounds and riffs.. I would love (and so would the 650 ppl in "Harmonica Enthusiasts!" if you could help with such a lesson with A and C harps

  • when you say "overblow" you been bending the notes... right? Because as far as i'm concerned, overblow is something you can only do on the last 3 holes. Plus i got those notes drawbending. I'm just a bit confused.

  • No that is not what I'm talking about. An overblow is not a bend, it is when you actually pop the draw read a minor third above the note of the hole your blowing. check tenholedotcom

and overblowdotcom for more info. Your simply reffering to blow bends. That should help.

  • so "blowbends" are different than "overblows"?

On my diatonic i can make the 8-9-10 blows go flat with a throat/cavity technique that i do not know the name of... what is it?

  • sorry nevermind i got it.

  • I am working on the 1st position blues and pentatonic scales, simply so I can have a hope at Adam's first position challenge. I have no choice but to really get the OB technique down. This may be a while. . .

  • cool video and playing man and also crazy hair i like it!

  • sounds like a friend of Bill w

  • What gave it way??? You rock!

  • i can't get that sound, also i have a harmonica that says "C" is this a problem? :P

  • No, no problem , But get more harps and keep at it...you'll get it.

  • Awesome man, thanks.

  • @Ghettobird1990 nope' it's good.

  • Yes he did, Jason's gay!

  • the ending rocks inconceivably =)

btw did he say "my boyfriend"

or it`s just my bad english?

  • I hope you didnt over blow the boyfriend you gave the lighter to. sorry, couldnt resist lol

  • I wish I could have face-to-face study

  • Dammit, I wish I could come see your band. Especially frustrating because I have family in Nashville, and also Mississippi. The day you come play in Barcelona, I will be there.

  • You mention 'over blow' a few times. What do you mean by that?

  • I love you Jason, and you know it.

    Aloha......SuzyQBlues

  • It's really hard to take in that it's a 'diatonic' harmonica!!! Wow!!

  • really impressive

  • u rock the blues

  • Thanks again Jason for the great video.still working on the blues and waiting for the penny to drop.Come on over to Perth and kick ass, love to see you.

  • I really loved how you showed passion when talking about the word "Harmony", which is basically what I need to practise at this moment, as I basically play the same riffs over all chords.

    Thanks!

  • You're hillarious! I love your stuff. Thank you so much!

  • chicago illinois?

  • Hey man, even though you have red and black hair, you still kick ass. You rock man!

  • Few!

  • Защо не си потърсиш на друго място мъжко дупе,шибан византийски задник?!

  • why do I make these videos ????

  • fuck you fuck you fuck you your cool and fuck you im out of here.

  • Jason...

Great video! Good to finally meet you at Darwin's in Marietta, Georgia. Looking forward to more videos and CDs.

Where does one go to get a video...whatever on how to do overblows. I really want to do "Watermelon Man" but can't do any overblows yet.

    Thanks!

    Al

  • Hey Elwood you cna still get watermelon man in the first octave without over blows! I'm trying to get a video out next year! Thanks for your intrest and please write again!

    j

  • Very Nice!

  • forgive my ignorance.. but HTF?! do you get all those different sounds out of that tiny harmonica... there is only tiny wee squares and it dont tell me shit. like the vid... any beginner harmonica vids? Ta :)

  • Wow, this answers my previous questions about positions. My teachers were face to record player and thousands of hours of jamming with my harp buddies and learning by accident. I would like to have a face 2 face with you and I did see you and the boys last year at Warmdaddys. When r u coming back to philly ?

  • Hey Jason Ive looked at the third octave in first position and I found that if you play:

    7 blow - 8 blow 1/4 bend - 9 draw - 9 blow 1/2 bend - 9 blow - 10 blow 1/2 bend - 10 blow : thats a blues scale.

Of course it works best on low harps. Its good for players how aren't too good with overblows (such as myself!) and you can still get that scale to work in.

  • Yo Berger...Exellent exellent point!!! This is what I did for years prior to learning over blows...you should make a follow up video(Video responce) Demonstrating that! great point sir.

    J

  • Id love to make a follow up. But unfortunately Im only 14 and don't own a camera to make the response with and my funds are kinda low. But ill see what I can do.

  • I'm not one of the lucky ones that I have a personal teatcher. I got to learn everything from my own. So I'm really gratefull that people like Adam and you put time in these lesson's. Thanks a lot

  • Great stuff man, I have been trying to figure out the positions, so hard to do this things by yourself. Already a subscriber and will be in touch.

    See ya.

  • Awesome stuff Jason. It very generous of you to share your skills with us. Much appreciated.

  • Yeah agree, i had face to face lessons on harmonica Australian Legend Chris wilson. ( paul kelly, dumb things harp player) However yoube helps and your awesome, love your style

  • Dude! Come on up to Seattle. I'll introduce you to Bigfoot. He does some mean overblows.

  • you got it I'll be hangin' all day!

    J

  • Jason I will see you at the Bean in Indiana. Love to shake your hand at meet face to face. Maybe sign a CD or !!?

  • Hi Jason! I'm your fan for couple of years now and I sure tried to figure out some of your stuff all that time. So you can imagine how glad I'm to view these videos. Too bad I'm so far from America to visit your seminar.

  • You probably heard of turbo tape...any way it's kinda of along the idea of what your talking 'bout with the dental dam thing...I don't think that stuff is nessacarry...but thats just me..I'll make a some vids on customazation when I can get some one to help me film them...Thanks!

    J

  • Love my coffee too! Interested in a vid on customization with details on embossing, hex bolts, comb openings and reed shaping on a synthetic comb harp. I like the shape of the ends of my Golden Melodies and am playing around with my Special 20s to add material to make them rounder and smoother at the ends for more comfort. Do you think a thin rubber gasket made from something like dental rubber dam material between the comb and reed plate would be advantageous for a tighter seal? Thanks. JH

  • I'm hoping too.

  • Here's hoping you'll shift some gears and come visit Washington DC sometime soon! Maybe when the new CD comes out?

  • I read some descriptions on your website about setting up your AMP...I hope I can have a close look at your Mic,your AMP...if they're available in your room.

By the way,do take care of your throat!Do you smoke a lot?

    Simon.

  • Thanks Simon...I've alway wanted to visit Hong Kong and see the ring of fire at night. Look at my gears? what exactly are you talking about my good man...you do know I'm takin'?

  • Hi Jason,it's great to watch your instruction videos!Hope to have a look at your gears one day,LOL...

    Simon from China.

  • Ty for the vids and kudos red wood!

  • You've been a busy boy, Jason - these videos are great. I sent a link to my sis-in-law, who unlike me can actually play a harmonica.

I posted the first of four videos from Biscuits and Blues tonight - hope to see you live again soon - please make your way to the California north coast.

  • Dear Johnnie: Thanks so much! I just had to cancel a gig in BC a few months ago so I know my agency books there In that case I'm I'll definitly be back! see you there lets grab some coffee!

    J
