Though Irving Thalberg added him as box office insurance in this one, Gable was only too happy to appear in "Strange Interlude." Having established his sex-symbol status, and success in crime and romantic outings, Gable was glad for the opportunity to prove similar competence in a serious drama with a Broadway pedigree. The film did not do well with the hicks, but drew large enough audiences in urban centers to keep it out of the red.
This really was one Strange movie. I found myself laughing throughout (even though I don't think that was the intent). I found it seriously entertaining!
omg this movie annoyed me because of the constant thinking...but sometimes it was hilarious because the stuff they would be thinking be hilarious!!! and you'd be like...the hell?!?!?!
I admit it is "avant garde," but I have to say, when you watch the whole film, the internal monologues gradually become part of the fabric of the film. Yes, it is watered down and the text severely cut, but whom else but Irving Thalberg, Norma Shearer and MGM would have taken the chance to film this during the depths of the Depression (1932)??
I like your vid clip and I've rated it as awesome. Please check out mine on some old cigarette cards of 1930's celebrities, including: Norma Shearer,Shirley Temple, Joan Crawford, Gracie Fields,Kay Francis,Clark Gable,, Greta Garbo, Katherine Hepburn, Ginger Rogers,Norma Shearer.

@kgianna7 ~ No, this is "Strange Interlude". Gable wasn't in "The Divorcee," her leading men in that were Chester Morris and Robert Montgomery.

Her segway to thinking and internal dialogue is quite common in today's soap opera.

The movie was a Very cut-down version of O'Neil's play--which ran for about 7 hours.

This is the stuff that makes watching these old movies worthwhile. Yes, they did some classics, but then there's this!
