Democracy(rule of majority) will never work. It's been a failure since ancient Greece. A republic(rule of law) is a more successful system, as it has worked in the Philippines an America. This type of government has kept these countries together and will never fall as the power in a republic is vested in the people and elected representatives; on the other hand, democracy will fail because in a democracy is all about the rule of the majority or a mob. In such a system the mob always wins.
@jayeshchoudhari Your very welcome. Look up the American constitution. Ben Franklin said to a woman, who asked him, what he gave America, his reply, "A republic ma'am, if you can keep it," the constitution does not include the word democracy, but republic. Translate said government from Latin, Res=affair, thing, law, and Publica= people, hence, the law, thing, affairs of the people, or to rule by law.
Thanks again. Will definitely google more regarding it. I had read once that once the word democracy is not mentioned in American constitution and how contrary to that the new age politicians are professing everywhere that America fights for democracy etc..
Only thing I get confused with is regarding voting in both a republic and democracy.
@jayeshchoudhari In my understanding, a democracy congress votes on behalf of the majority, and again the majority never lets a Nay Sayer speak . In a republic, if one person disagrees, then that person must present his idea that could improve the already existing plan, and congress votes if that idea is good or bad. In short, democracy has disregard of an individual's say in voting, while republic is the opposite.
I am Indian and I believe that the worst might be behind us for most of South Asia, mainly India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal. In each of these countries the worst of the problems have either been resolved or are being resolved. The only major danger is in Pakistan and Afghanistan and how that will spill over to the rest of the region.
We are cutting poverty by 2% a year, we are on target to cut poverty in half by 2015, meet all of our MDG's and be the 22nd largest economy on earth by 2050 with an economy worth almost $3trillion, we have the lowest infant mortality rate in all of South Asia. Corruption and natural disasters are huge problems but we are marching forward, painfully but the march to progress continues.
The latest elections in Bangladesh were internationally recognised as 100% free, we have recently been redeemed by a report on minority rights that BD is safe for minorities including religious minorities. Pakistan on the other hand failed miserably, it's all in the details
But my video was not to criticise other countries. I just wanted to show the contrast which is there around the largest democracy(by numbers). in the world. Sorry if my earlier comment hurt you. Be rest assured it wasn't intended. But you cant deny the fact that in the history of Bangladesh except the points you mentioned and recent past. Democracy has been a failure with internal conflicts taking its toll . You cannot say that democracy has been successful.

Completely agree regarding your comments about pure democracy. But I need to check regarding 'a republic'. Thanks.
