In the Netherlands only yearly approx 5 million pigs won't make it to the slaughterhouse due to sickness, abuse, stress and so on. Imagine the number of all animalspecies used in mass-industry. Add the number of all species who are so unfortunate to do make it to the slaughterhouse plus those killed in fur farms, testing labs, hunting, 'sports' and so on. It is unimaginable.

How can we call ourselves the 'civilised' society if we continue these barbaric practices?

I just watched the documentary of the undercover investigation at a chicken farm and I can't watch anymore of it. I almost hate the people who do this to animals. They are living, feeling individuals each with an own unique character. There's no need to eat meat and to participate and be partly responsible for the unimaginable suffering these poor animals go through. It's worse than a nazi camp.

They showed all this in my agriculture class but they didn't make a point that it was cruel they just said it's the way they raise pigs. Everyone was getting sick during the video. They showed EVERYTHING and all the video talked about was how they did it.

i love pigs. They are so intelligent. I went vegetarian when i was 5 years old, and i learned what meat was.. seeing the pigs hung up in the butchers truck. This is only a tiny sliver of the abuse that goes on in industrial farms every second of every day. Chickens raised for meat are treated in similar ways, chickens raised to lay eggs, male chicks are ground alive because they have no use, dairy cows are tortured, the male calves are stolen at birth to be tortured and then slaughtered when they are weeks old for veal. Beef cows are fed garbage and made sick and stand in their filth all day before being slaughtered. The list goes on. GO VEGAN.
