I wonder how many people who get KTFO by riot cops ever bother to vote, the apparent farce being "Rather than influence policy making via voting in leaders I like that make moves that I approve of I will instead scream and yell with a sign in a massive crowd of people and that will somehow carry more sway in terms of getting what I want from the people in power.
Oh, I forgot, they also have several environmental offices (earthcorps for example), there is also a gymboree, and indoor soccer field, and the Rat City Roller Girls have their matches in one of the buildings there. The big building immediately on the left when you drive in is used to host many events: rummage sales, book sales, and the annual 5k dog walk (benefit for Seattle Animal Shelter).
They put WTO protesters there because the jails were crowded as hell (like always) and they never intended to hold them long-term. They just wanted to keep them away from the conference. And yes, I know someone who was detained there. He was never even formally processed or charged. He was held for less than 24 hours and released.
Take a 20 minute drive and see for yourself. If you live close enough to lake washington, you could see it with binoculars. What they have is: a dog park, a kayak rental shop, a beach, several playgrounds and athletic fields, and some low-income housing in the southwest section (former barracks). Sand Point is not, nor has it ever been a FEMA facility. It's run by the Seattle Parks Dept.
People were left on the busses for hours, no bathroom break- they had to relieve themselves in the doorway. All types of people from young rebels to 70+ year old women. were present. When it came time for your bus to be booked, Wa/Id/Or police, national guardsmen, and prison guards would come on the bus to "assist" in taking you off. Women and men had hair pulled, were kicked/punched and prodded to get them out.
It wasn't pretty.... as if sitting on the bus overnight wasn't enough, people were getting beat, booked for hours inside "Santa's little workshop" (as was posted on the building at the time), then transfered to the Regional Justice Center to stay incarcerated for days. The authorities tried to break the spirits of the people. Inside "Satans Little Workshop", the people would break into songs of protest, songs of strength... to further the beatings by the police.
Well, don't fucking protest then! Most people down there at WTO were just in it to fuck shit up and break things and do some looting, the people with legitimate political arguments/grievances were of much lesser amounts.
What's it gonna take for naive people to see before it's acceptable to take every precaution to protect our homeland? How about if the Needle gets blasted out of the sky...Would that convince anyone? The Trade Center wasn't enough. WTF people.
I think this is from the Seattle WTO riots. That was a temporary facility set up to hold rioters. They were probably released within hours.
I live two miles from Sand Point, It is not a secret FEMA camp. I went to a big ass rave there like 6 years ago. It is just a big waterfront park.
That said, it is an ex-naval base with HUGE warehouse and I do not doubt that there are contingency plans to convert it in to a detention center when the FED decides they are sick of adhering to the constitution

National guardsmen obviously weren't used to dealing with criminals/violent Americans. They couldn't handle it and broke down crying at the scene.

Whats with the "no protest zones" anyways? Freedom of speech and expression does not apply to certain zones? Bullshit.
ClearFire1 4 years ago 10
No protest zones is to make sure they are not being too much of a nuisance.
