  • 4:03- Ivanova- your fired.

  • Don't make good shows like these anymore bit of a shame :( B5 is awsome !!

  • best show ever i loved how they had mystery, espionage, intrigue and my all time favorite race were the technomages.

  • I never really watched B5 before...however going through the whole series recently, I am now a HUGE fan. It was a QUALITY show.

  • The only thing better than this battle was Sheridan's apology!

  • Thanks for that info. Like I said it was a wonderful series and my wife and I never missed an episode.

  • suck a star trek copy

  • @NickoRules17 You're an idiot. :)

  • I loved Babylon 5 its sad that they didn't bring the series back.

  • @ALCAPPELLO

Strazinzky (spelling) said that there was going to be an announcement sometime in March this year about something to do with B5. Check out the Zocalo website. It was posted in the latter half of last year. Doubt he will announce anything but who knows.

  • @Armatige O.o!!! Here's to hoping. I really would've liked to see Crusade continuing. You know, Galen and all... XD

  • now that is what I am talking about....

  • Why does he feel bad about blowing up the ship? The Centauri started it!

  • @teencomment Yeah, but Sheridan just wanted to keep the Centauri busy until the Narn cruiser got away.

  • The animation for this show was done with Rendering Farms with New Tek Video Toasters and Amiga computers. Before that it was done with huge Silicon Graphic Super Computers. It made shows like Babylon 5 and Seaquest possible.

  • Babylon 5 is one of the best Sci-Fi TV shows of the 1990s!

  • JMS has also said that he believes DS9 was a ripoff of B5. he offered the producers of DS9 his show, giving them access to his story bible in the process. They turned him down, and then about a year later a Star Trek show, which previously had always been about starships, comes on the air showing life aboard a space station. ancient races, wormholes, a captain who becomes a messiah, there are a lot of parallels, specifically in details that never appeared in star trek before.

  • @oldfrend it's a fact. you could line up both shows side by side and from beginning to end and see the parallel,

    wormhole = jump gate.

    white star = defiant.

    the founders = the shadows.

the list goes on and on. even how both shows ended. cisco leaving and joining the worm hole aliens = Sheridan taken off by the first ones when he died 20 years latter.

there is enough evidence out there that if JMS really wanted to he could have sued the living shit out of paramount.

  • @kosh1968 minor detail, but B5 was originally supposed to end with sinclair becoming valen. sheridan was never a part of the original plans, but the tv network wanted a more lively captain. so the cisco parallel actually matches up with sinclair going back in time to become valen, which if you think about it is much more similar than sheridan leaving.

  • Biggest problems with the Primus Class was their age. They had old, underpowered reactors, and the hulls just wasn't as tough as they used to be.

  • Man I miss that show!

  • Baby5on 5 was way ahead of ds9 in terms of story and character genaration thats a fact one episode of ds9 cost more thant than a entire season of B5

  • b4 tv there was buck rogers at the movie theaters the best scifi ever

  • I just love the way molari looks away and doesnt say a word in bitter disgust after sheridan's message....such a great scene LOL.

    2.30

  • @Revoltingmachine interesting points! If my sister ever gives me my box set back, I'll re-watch it and come back to this thread...

  • Lolz the dislikes are the Centauri!!!!

  • Considerign they did all this on Amiga 4000 computers the graphics is very good.

The fun think is that today games have better graphics and physics then this then this.

  • 4:34 lol i wouldn't want to be fired upon by something that looks like a garage door wide opened -- speaking of serious bad-assness :-D

  • @jednoucelovy Aye, We got to watch it in the 90's syndicated @ 11pm Saturday nights. Back when this was on I had 4 young son's and worked 80 hours a week. I would still drag home desperate to see this show every Saturday night. It was such a breath of fresh Sci-Fi air when it came out. God I loved this show..!

  • God the graphics were so good in the 80's.

  • @Dreez76 Do you realize that this show is from the 90's?

  • @Dreez76

The irony is delicious considering that your third favourite video is X3, which while having a expansive and deep gameplay has worse graphics than 90's Babylon 5.

  • @Dreez76 You're literally a moron.

  • one Centauri battle cruiser and B5 has to launch everything they got ??!! wtf.....blow the Centauri out of the sky

  • @xadam2dudex Remember that the Centauri are supposed to be very advanced compared to Earth. That was a common theme of B5 - different races were not on-par with each other, a'la Star Trek. Earth was well advanced over the non-aligned worlds, but was way behind Centari, which was way behind the Minbari, who were REALLY far behind the Vorlons/1st Ones. Of course, as we know here on real-life Earth, being advanced over another culture doesn't mean you can't get overwhelmed, suprised, etc.

  • Alien ambassador with scottish accent, LOL

  • @hailherrosner There are no Scottish accents in this scene?

  • did they die?

  • I miss this show so much!

  • Ah, the Centauri, they still thought they were in their heyday. No one with any intelligence takes on a fully armed space station and several wings of fighters with a 200+ year old battlecruiser. The Primus class may have been a fearsome vessel at one time, but that time is in the past.

  • The Centauri can be real pricks.

  • Actually the episode is called "The Fall of Night" and is the last episode in season 2... Not "The Coming of Shadows"....

  • Most Sci Fi shows these days get worse the longer they are on air, Babylon 5 was the opposite, it just got better and better....

  • One of THE best sci-fi shows of the 90's.

Babylon 5 and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine were my two most favorite

    shows of that decade!!!

  • @darthpervertous And not to mention they both had something in common. They both got real good after the first season.

  • @darthpervertous

well considering DS9 is a blatant copy of B5, it is no wonder

  • @darthpervertous babylon 5 >>>>>>>>>>>> deep space nine tho

  • B5 versus DS9. Hmmm.... I never watched DS9 originally, but caught the whole thing repeated last year on CBS Action. It really was terrific - and held up a good level of consistent quality over its 7 years. That said however, it rarely sent a chill of excitment down my spine like B5 still does. So I love them both, but B5 (despite the 5th season) has the edge. Neither show really gets going until season 2 anyway.

  • Derek! Babylon 5's a big pile of shit!!

  • @g2g4m10 hehe - "Get out!"

  • @Dolphination YEAH!

  • Best scifi show ever!

  • @Grizby01 He didn`t look like he wanted the Narns dead or enslaved when he saw their homeworld bombed with asteroids to me. It`s my theory that he felt guilty for what his dealings with Morden and the Shadows resulted in and is punishing himself by pushing away everyone by being a dick in public as he may have felt that he doesn`t deserve to have friends.

  • @girlgarde They address that later on in part, when Londo was having that heart attack and was about to die. All his life he had been to proud and stubborn to apologize for anything, even when he knew he was wrong. That episode was when he said those four words that coming from his mouth was startling "G'kar, i am so sorry."

  • The Centari were dicks all through season 2, especially when they won the war and Londo insisted G'Kar had to stand down. He showed a really ugly side of himself that day.

  • @PassiveSmoking keep in mind that was what would be his down fall. He became greedy, and worked with the Shadows. Though he was not fully aware of who his "allies" were until much later, the Shadows had already molded Londo into the instrument they needed to spread war across the galaxy.

  • Just how did the Centauri ship get so badly damaged it blew up? The actual battle scene just shows it taking some external hull damage on the gunports but it doesn't really look so bad...

  • @ShadowSonic2 Now that is a good question. Well, from what i can see there weapons are on turrets, and many of them were hit in the process. Maybe its a build up of energy with no where to go? My guess is that the younger race in B5 simply shunt as much energy into a gun and fire, and if the gun is destroyed before the energy can discharge then it has no where to go but boom. Keep in mind, that is only my best guess.

  • @porpus99 So, destroying the gunports/turrets causes a backfire right into the energy cores?

  • @ShadowSonic2 Thats my best guess. Its either that, or they focused to much on weapons that there hull integrity is just basically nothing. From what i remember they have only there outer hull for protection against weapons fire. That seems unlikely, as what would a ship with alot of bite but no way of protecting itself be worth?

  • @ShadowSonic2 Presumably B5 and her fighters did a lot more damage internally than was immediately apparent. Mind you, they were a bit limited with what they could do with the special effects at the time. Of course, with anything armor-plated, it can be hard to see how much damage you're doing. Make a small hole in the armor, which becomes a really big hole inside, but as long as the armor holds together, you can't tell that you've shredded all the internals and set them on fire.

  • The last of the great explosions in Babylon 5. I liked that they used to show the ships breaking up when destroyed instead of those all-destroying fiery explosions that would come later (and which are used extensively in other shows with explosions). Even if it looked a little hokey at times (destruction of Raider mothership in Signs and Portents), I found the explosion+break-up more visually satisfying.

  • In B5 they do not have "shields" of any kind but use so called "interceptor" or deflector weapons to blast incomming missiles and "beams"!

  • How come centauri women are bald and the males have those RIDICULOUS hair"style"?

  • @TheShadowwolf88

They explain the hair thing in one of the later B5 episodes. Supposedly the bigger hair for the men is a status symbol. When they get a bigger title they can let their hair grow bigger.

  • @rakishuanime8

True but it´s still looks ridiculous!

  • Comment removed

  • @rakishuanime8 Yep, we even see that the Centauri Emperor is bald and his hair was a wig he refused to wear.

  • @rakishuanime8 Exactly. The emperor (the crazy one, Cartagia I think) even commented that his hair let him be let in to places where nobles like him were not expected. Also, the first emperor, seen in late season 2, is also seen with his hair as a wig, thus more or less proving it is a status thing :-)

  • @TheShadowwolf88 Yeah, their hair is like that for the same reason that all the human men keep their hair so short. It's the style.

  • @TheShadowwolf88

actually it's cuz of the spoo...in a S5 ep where they basically did a day in the life of these 2 maintenance guys one guy was eating a spoo sandwich and made a face and was like "the centauri like this stuff" and the other guy was like "yeah they go nuts for it" and the guy eating it was like "man no wonder their hair stands on end"

  • @josamen

I think that was a comic metaphor!

  • @TheShadowwolf88

According to the commentary on the DVD version, the hair started out as a joke, but once it got filmed they had to keep it.

  • @CelticSouthland

In the pilot episode the minbari AND narn looked REALLY different!

  • @TheShadowwolf88 I always thought it was clever and befitting their imperial and napoleonic-esque look. Its over the top just like what they wear and how they speak. I found it all to work rather well......maybe I got used to it.

  • @krashly71 I guess so!

  • @krashly71 I got the impression that the younger races in the show each represented a continent on Earth now.

So The Centauri with their dwindling Empire/Republic were Europe, The Narn were Africa and the Middle East, The Minbari were the mystic Orient and Earth was clearly America. I guess the Vorlons and The Shadow were the poles (though Australasia has some pretty big spiders).

  • @Concreteowl yeah cuz earth(america) got pwned by the mimbari(orient)... good job.

  • @ODOMAN123 Give them time :-D

  • @Concreteowl I agree with you, they were alien incarnations of culture/social groups as we have them here...easier to get viewers to accept an alien race if it bears resemblance to a human culture...I also thought he made most races human-identifiable to make the first ones seems more alien and more bizarre so we would be more freaked out by them. Put a Narn next to a Shadow and a Narn looks like us and is easy to stomach...

  • @TheShadowwolf88 It's a symbol of power and status, the higher they are in the government the larger they wear their hair. Women and Slaves have no status, whilst male slaves would probably have no crest, the Female's shaving their heads is symbolic of their rejecting the idea of status and rank.

  • @Dimbo I guess feminism aren´t great on that world then?!

  • Comment removed

  • @Dimbo I too know a little bit too much!

  • @TheShadowwolf88 It is probably a cultural thing, I think i read somewhere that the bigger crest you have¨

the more powerful or something, it is not so strange really look at various cultures here, muslims where the

male can ran around in shorts and t-shirts while the poor female have to look like the Phantom Blot.

  • @MultiKronblom I remember that!

  • It was a great TV series...not "life"...And I thought so-called "trekkies" were strange ...

  • They started it. They got what they deserved. Buncha Centauri cry babies.

  • I love those huge-ass big yield wapons of the Babylon 5 -- they look like a hole to hell ^^

  • Well that went well!

  • I do wonder if secretly, Londo wanted the Narn ship to escape to give the Narns a chance to gain their freedom as he never wanted them to lose it in the first place....

Also, it annoys me that those two Earth officials went behind Sheridan's back and told Londo about the Narn ship. If they had gone to Sheridan first, they could have worked something out but nope, they decided to fuck over Sheridan and create a big mess that they had the gall to blame him for!!

  • @kosh800 Never saw it like that actually. No wonder their Empire crumbled as quick as they gained it!

  • Ds9 was created by paramount after they rejected JMS's script for a St series based on a space station...He was willing to adapt b5 into the ST universe. Paramount rejected the idea. then, ds9 came out. hmmmmm.?

  • @mattnnalan Yeah, DS9 definitely ripped off the idea for Babylon 5. Funny that Babylon 5 was a great series all the way through even when just confined to a space station but DS9 only started getting good when the Defiant came into the picture.

  • @ItsSomeDeadGuy Armen Shimmerman was at a convention and he said as far as he knew both ideas for a space station series were developed seperately. He said most trek fans will also like B5 and he wished them the best of luck

  • Would it be wrong for me to say that I think this show is better than Star Wars and Star Trek combined?

  • @TheJboy88

It would be wrong if you included Deep Space Nine into equasion. Obviously Babylon 5 was one of the most mature s-f shows of it's time. Still, so was DS9. Not to mention the SW extended universe. Obviously, B5 was treated unfairly. Have they had the same funbase as the other shows mentioned above, I'm sure they would have made it well into the 21st century...

  • @Qba86 the story ended, season 5 was crap too, i could care less about the physics on the ship should have been blown out of a airlock :D. The crusade was a pretty good spin off series, but the network fucked it up they demanded the show to be a certin way, you will notice how the uniforms and etc... how the show changes thew the season, Micheal said F-off to them and that was the end of that series. another great series was Space above and beyond, but fox killed it after first season.

  • Wasn't Mr Lance the same guy who played a politician on Space 1999?

  • @lilleo1968 Yes.Roy Dotrice. He also played Father on Beauty And the Beast. On Space 1999 he played Simmons

  • Why did that Primus not launch it's fighter? It was stupid how the Vorchan, much smaller than it, was always portrayed as deadly yet these things just sat there and took a pounding everytime.

  • @nicoj84 Honestly? Probably because they were arrogant pricks who felt they didn't need to. They attack a space station filled with hundreds of thousands of civilians, a fighter squadron, and a limping warship all at the same time. That takes a lot of balls and even more stupidity.

  • @nicoj84 : My guess is either arrogance on the part of the Centauri thinking they would have the element of surprise on their hand or they honestly believed that their demand would be met without resistance, making this a kind of routine mission for them.

  • full version???????????????????????????????????

  • They should of had a Earth- Centauri war instead of the Earth civil war would have been better

  • its the best series ever with the best music from Christopher franke.

Love the cd collection even after many many years.

  • 5 centauri watched this video :D

  • Helpful hint to future Centari Commanders:

Dont bite off more than you can chew.

Or, as they say in World of Warcraft...

"You pull it, you tank it!"

  • Best show ever ! We should do a babylon 5 on earth for other species to visit in p3ac3 . But they shouldn't get involve with us for like 500 years. we are still 2 primitive for them.

  • YAY TRON! goo[dot]gl/GjmdX

  • that title saved the show for 5 seasons :D

  • I think they overdid it :D a little

  • 3:10 I love how that extra is operating the computer by not even having his hands on the keyboard or any other of the glowing panels for that matter.

  • @SilverMcdowell1992 I don't think he was really doing anything more than reading at that point anyway. It's not as if he was actually actively working the system.

And he was a regular character not an extra, while not a main character he was usually in C&C

  • @KaneinEncanto Yeah, you're probably right. It does look like he's pressing on parts of the console though to me still.

  • It always struck me as silly that no race other than the EA used interceptors/point defense. They obviously work against Centauri weapons, so why didn't the Narn, at least, use them?

  • ok call me crazy, but that guy at 1:04 looks a lot like Atherton Wing from Firefly right?

I don't think it is but he looks really really familiar.

Any browncoats out there see it?

  • at 4:14 isn't that dr bashir from star trek deep space 9

  • Watching this I renember of Leonard Hofstadter and Sheldon Cooper.

  • I wonder if the kids who are watching this realize that these war shows are just preparing their mind for the next world war.

I hope they are smart enough to realize that they have the power to stop war.

  • @DoshUnScripted Your way of thinking concerning that particular topic are terribly naive, at best. Ignorant at worst.

No one can put a stop to war, it can be started for any reason. Hate, rage, love, compassion, raw materials, just because, spite. No matter the reason, it's enough to start a war.

Kids are cruel, teenagers are monsters, adults are demons. If you wish for peace, prepare for war.

That said, I'm not pro-war, nor anti-war. I merely accept war as part of our nature.

  • @Cordar I really despise YouTube arguments, but Im going to say this and let it go.

I don't even think Im going to touch "war is part of nature". That is just madness but if it's part of your nature, fine.

I can only guess that you are a Republican, Soldier, Pro-War or a Armageddon Welcoming "KILL FOR GOD" person that with your words above, you are trying to convince people that war is normal

There is nothing wrong with protecting ones self but if you are trying to convince me, dont bother

  • @DoshUnScripted Don't like YouTube arguments either, but someone's gotta push send in some common sense.

The universe are about changes, which are more often than not, violent. And that includes living things. For example, Ants go to war, wiping out life where they go. Chimps group up to attack and rape others. And that's just the tip of the ice berg.

If we stacked up the days of peace scattered across the last 3000 years, it would amount to a mere 80 days.

  • @Cordar

    Oh, I see.

So we should just think like ants and chimps but not human.

Thanks, it makes total sense now.

Thank you for sharing and I really think that we are on the verge off a better world now that I know.

  • @DoshUnScripted Merely stating examples. To make sure you understand that violence isn't something unique to Humans.

  • @Cordar

no no... as you said before, it is really the ants and monkeys that think this way, ... humans are simply following "normal" protocols" to act like ants and monkeys as you stated before....

as you said, "war is normal".

  • @DoshUnScripted You do know your behaving like an ass right now, right?

  • @Cordar Well, you are the one who said this.

I dropped it a long time ago when you brought up the ants and the apes

You said "war is normal" and I just let you believe whatever it is you want to believe.

I got it... you think "war is normal" and I just left it at that.

I that's what you think then i wont try to stop you from thinking it.

I you feel that you need to convince me of that.... fine ... "War is normal".

Now... let's get on with our day, shall we?

    Thanks!

  • @DoshUnScripted You merely twisted what I said to mean something else. I already stressed the 'for example' when I displayed the examples.

War is simply a fact of life. Most wars in history haven't even been named. And it isn't as frowned upon as some idealistic people think. The only reason there are peace in some areas are: The invention of Nuclear weapons. And because one faction already curb stomped every other that could challenge it.

  • @DoshUnScripted So yes, war is normal. It happens at every tier of society. The difference from other acts of violence is that war is politics by other means.

And I'm neither of those things. I simply accept that war, happens. It's a part of us, like it's a part of all life that can cause violence on some level. Between all the worlds religions, ideologies, cultures.. etc. World peace, is an unattainable fantasy.

  • @Cordar says:

    War is Normal.

Ok, tjanks Coradar for clearing that up.

I you say War Is Normal, then we have no other choice than to believe you.

    War IS normal.

    I think I should get that on a T-shirt !

  • @Cordar - OK... Just so we got this straight, YOU say: Ants and apes have wars and humans should act accordingly,... like them (GOT IT!) You also say that, "War is Normal". GOT IT. do you have to keep sending me messages. I stressed, reiterated and copied and repeated... I didnt argue with you, I agreed with you. WHY MUST YOU KEEP SENDING ME MESSAGES? I do not want a war with you Why must you keep dropping your word bombs on me? What did I do to you? I repeated what you said. Thats all
  • @DoshUnScripted Because you are twisting my words concerning the examples ants and apes. I only stated examples of other species that commits acts of organized violence. That it isn't unique to Humans. In fact, we did not learn it from them.

It could be commented on as: "Hey, look at that. They fight amongst themselves, just like we often do."

  • @Cordar

OK, you are the one welding the mighty sword expecting all to kneel and obey

    (just like in medieval times).

WHAT IS IT THAT YOU WANT ME TO SAY?

  • @Cordar

The only normal in the war we have to day is the New World Order is Bound never going to stop until we have a massive nuclear attack and I guess you think that is normal too. Just waiting for the angels to arrive to save us.

Well, you keep on believing what you need to believe , but I going to opt out and be anti-war.

And just so you don't think I'm naive, I know what's up.

I bought my nephews squirt guns if that tells you anything. I know what they are up against.

    They are 4 and 5

  • @DoshUnScripted Babylon 5 wasn't about brainwashing people into wanting war.

  • @thefreeflowification BABYLON 5

may not be about brainwashing people into wanting war,

but brainwashing people into war is EXACTLY what it's doing.

As if war is a normal state of reality and we distribute that philosophy through science fiction.

  • @DoshUnScripted Normal as in something that is good or desirable; Or normal as in something that is common and to be expected?

  • @thefreeflowification

My Point is WAR is not normal but we have conditioned to believe that is.

  • @DoshUnScripted You didn't answer my question. I get the impression you're just trying to attack the show on some kind of soapbox.

Do you mean to say it is not normal for people to be comfortable with or even desire warfare in a psychological sense; or war is not normal in the sense of something that is infrequent/uncommon?

  • this scene is better than star trek!

  • And that is what happens when you attack a battle ready colossal spacestation.

  • you'd think a ship like that would have some kind of support vessel(s)..

  • @liljohnnotbigjohn support vessels? Back in the old days of the centauri Republic, entire FLEETS of ships would run at the mere HINT of a Centauri warship appearing (or so the Centauri would probably say)

  • @JakeConhale See, that's the thing. B5 CAN'T run.

  • i know it's old but you have to laugh at the CGI of the past :P

  • This is truly a great show. However the battlecruiser seems nerfed somehow. The starfury should have been utterly dusted by the ion cannon from the centauri battlecruiser and there is some bad targeting on both sides. however pointin out these things makes me feel like a proper nerd :P

  • "Captain Sheridan!"...lol Peter Jurasik rules.

  • OMG! Babylon 5 pioneered computer graphics in TV series, games have better graphics then this today :)

  • Cool,what a big Battelcruiser.^^

  • "in the beginning" Londo admits that "even at the height of the Centauri Republic, when we were expanding in all directions" they left the Minbari alone. So i think Minbari plus Earth Gov would've been enough. Just add a few Drazi and Brakiri ships to the mix, stir till Centauri prime blows up. The vorlons still need to figure out how to set the IRQ setting in a DOS environment. Microsoft techs are beyond The Rim, helping them out with that one

  • Time on Target: When a coordinated attack of all available weapons, usually artillery or airstrike, is designed to hit the target at once within +/- 3 seconds.

  • Never watched it but I think despite the "old" CGI its worth a look :)

Whats that freaking big gun? Is this Babylon 5s mainweapon?

  • @Pandenhir one of the best sci fi shows I've ever seen. Intelligent plot - watch series 2 and 3 especially, but some of the later series 1

This and Blakes 7 I would say are the best - though sounds like you wouldn't like B7's effects :)

  • @Pandenhir nope. That was the main cargo handling area.

  • @Pandenhir they have no "main weapon" they're a civilian ambassadorial station: with some defenses. A diplomatic environment. You should watch it. But not if you're into flashy weps of today's CGI. It doesn't have too much of that, but the plot is simply brilliant.

  • @Pandenhir The freaking big gun, iirc, is a plasma cannon. And it's not a main weapon, stations, civilian or otherwise, tend not to have 'main weapons' in sci-fi unless it's something silly like the Death Star. :p This was after B5's defense grid got upgraded from a 'diplomatic station with defensive weapons' to a '5 mile long Swiss Army Knife that can hold it's own until help arrives'.

  • @Duneczan Death Star? Silly? the force is weak with this one. (correction from last post)

  • @yourcathatesme The Death Star was a giant Gray Marble of Doom. Of course it was silly! Most of the Empire superweapons were. Like the Galaxy Gun. Good lord, the Galaxy Gun...

  • @Duneczan sigh. have you NO imagination? childlike wonder? can't things be a little badass?

  • @yourcathatesme Yes, but only a little. Now Dahak, there's a badass mobile planetoid. Or the Beast Planet. Now those are Giant Marbles of Doom! There's nothing badass about neeming a planet with one-shot. That's where World Devastators come in. They ate planets and used their food to get stronger. Mores the pity they fell into the same endless abyss that all Imperial superweapons did. Also: Planetary Ore Extractor is a much better name than Death Star.
