tone, range, clarity... and no vocalist can bend a note with so much finesse like Ms Vaughn. So beautiful. I'm forever grateful my mom always played her music in the house when I was a kid.
Her voice is so beautiful, it hurts. It's beyond good, beyond great. It's so mind-numbingly beautiful that it actually hurts. Hearing this, I can understand where Sinatra was coming from when he said in the 1950s that "Sass is so good now, she makes me want to slit my wrists and listen to her while I'm dyin"
@DrKnows721 Make it a glass of really, really good cognac next time.......Sassy's favorite :-) And man, could she party (no joke, folks). What a woman !!
i would like to hear Beyonce even attempt to outdo Sarah on this. This is just infinitely better than she could ever dream of being with her flat autotuned voice.
I saw Amy Winehouse being interviewed at a British music awards show & when asked what music she liked she immediately mentioned Sarah Vaughn. So here I am listening to this glorious voice I never really listened to before. Young Winehouse caused me to finally get jazz. And her tunes led me straight back in time, from girl groups to the luminous Sarah Vaughn. Music is like the seasons, eh? Always changing but then always coming back, always changing but always blessedly the same.
the original is in stereo, i used to listen to it on headphones when i was a kid and its superior because sarah's voice was one channel. man her phrasing is impeccable, and the most powerful vibrato.
Of all the versions of "Stardust" - and there are hundreds - this is my favorite. I think Sarah was at her best in voice control, tonality, pacing - it is all there. Of course, the musical back-up was first-rate as well. Depending on where I am when I hear this song, I can be moved to tears.
This song is so haunting and it affects many emotions in me. I hadn't heard Sarah's version until today and I love anything she performed. However, I think that Willie Nelson's version is still my all time favorite, so far, and if wondering I am not a country music fan. Check it out!
I think I died and went to heaven. Now we know why she was called the "Divine One". I saw her in concert a number of times and she was incredible. Now, that is a voice with true range and beautiful tones, so rich you could reach out and hold them. I miss you so much, Sassy. No one can come close. Even Ella Fitzgerald said when Sarah died, "we lost the greatest voice". That, coming from another incredible singer, says it all.
this has to be rated as one of the top five jazz recording's of all time!!!

To me she was, and still is, the best.
When I drive I listen to her songs again and again. I never get tired of her voice.
I simply adore her.
Que Dieu vous bénisse Miss Vaughan.

@dixxylott - What was the point of you bringing up Beyonce? Different artist, different genre, different era. SMDH!

Ridiculous. Inexplicable. Owned.
This version is somehow deconstructed yet classical. The embodiment of refined creativity.
The Count Basie Orchestra was on point, as well. Brilliant!

nice... a sort of wordless version of the verse and then she glides through song. Immaculate. This version manages to not sound hokey.
