The problem with stingballs is that they can cause blindness. They should use gas to subdue prisoners instead. A blinded prisoner can not only sue the govt. for his loss of sight, but if both eyes are lost he will be a burden to the taxpayers long after his sentence is served. I can see stingballs as appropriate for more dire circumstances, but a simple cafeteria fight doesn't qualify IMHO.

Why there is no prison riots in Austina, Switzerland, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Holland and a couple other counties? Because they solve their crime rate by addressing it as a social problem and they are successful at it. Countries who think, "we just must be thought on the bad guys, if we just catch them all..." always fail. Look at counties with most cruel prisons and all you see is rampant crime there.

@zurechtweiser I've never been in prison or even arrested. Why? I don't put myself in those situations. I have better things to do (like go to work everday) than cause trouble and spat at the law. I have many members of my family in law enforcement and they all agree, the US prison system is a joke! Ex. Inmate throws human shit in a guard's face, then gets taken down by CO's? Take him/her to the nurse to thoroughly check him/her out. Give them pain meds and a warm meal. Please!

The recidivism rate is 85-90% that they'll be back. Why do they come back? They get 3 free hot meals a day, a free place to sleep and they get to hang out with like-minded fools all day long. The problem with stingballs is that they can cause blindness. They should use gas to subdue prisoners instead. A blinded prisoner can not only sue the govt. for his loss of sight, but if both eyes are lost he will be a burden to the taxpayers long after his sentence is served. I can see stingballs as appropriate for more dire circumstances, but a simple cafeteria fight doesn't qualify IMHO.
