  • Im massively confused what would I do if I had " x^2 - 3/4x + 1/8 = 0 "

  • Your last example is WRONG!!! It is a PRIME trinomial and can not be factored. In this case you must have a negative sign in both parentheses; however, if you look at your last example: + 2 times -5 = - 10 wich is incorrect. When multiplying 2 and 5, your answer must equal a +10 and not a -10. Check your work and see for your-self throught the FOIL method. =)P

  • @RSwanson1972 I have tried what you did out of curiosity and my results are these:

    x(square)-5x-2x+10 = x(square)-7x+10.

    Not what I want right/?

  • @scoupafi <--to: Yep, your answer is correct, according to the problem you have presented, which needs to be further simplifed first, before factoring, by adding (-5x) + (-2x), which will = -7x. So, you did that right. Now factor it, and your correct answer will be: (x - 5)(x - 2)

  • He loused up the second problem because the answer as he gives it would come out x^2-3x-10 not x^2-3x+10 like he had planned. Maybe that's why the video is cut short.

  • the 2nd one is wrong

  • it really helped me :)

  • thanks alot for this video man!!!XD

  • 00:28-00:29 who farted? O.o

  • DUDE I LOVE YOU

  • I wish you were my teacher man!!

  • it must be.. x^2 - 3x - 10

  • How would you solve if there was a number in front of the x^2? Would you put that number in the parenthesis first instead?

  • its Mike Rutherford from Genesis!

  • he's wrong, because -5 and +2 multiplied equals -10, not positive +10

  • you said one thing wrong , you said 2 and 5 combine to form 3 ,2 and 5 combine to form 7.

  • @TheDevilvivek 2 and 5 can combine to be 3 if one of them is negative

  • you said one thing wrong , you said 2 and 5 combine to form 3 2 and 5 combine to form 7.

  • Thats what america takes on high school? wow

  • This guy is straight to the point, I don't know why my math teacher sounds so complicated.

  • How do you get back to the original statement? 2 and -5 are going to be -10.

  • 3 people failed their factoring trinomials test.

    this guy is absolutely amazing.

i've never learned so much in 3 mins compared in a whole year of algebra 2.

  • Best math instructor, or better yet, the best instructor that ehow ever got!!

  • i love you sir

  • I feel like math teachers purposely make things look more difficult than they are to make them look smarter

  • best teacher

  • the last problem he messed up on because 2(-5) = -10 and its +10 in the equation.

  • i wish he was my teacher -______________-

  • My class totally agrees with tru64art. The equation is prime and the video needs to be taken down!

  • My class totally agrees. Factoring is wrong and video needs to be taken down!

  • The factoring for the second example is WRONG. This problem cannot be factored, it is a PRIME. 2 X - 5 = -10 not 10. Test the FOIL method on his factoring, it doesn't match the trinomial. I just learned factoring trinomials last night and caught this today. (tru64art@yahoo.com)

  • Thank you very much. This is a wonderful explanation. Even I could understand!

  • hey what you did was correct but the last question/factoring you did didnt seem correct to me because is was x^2-3x+10 and when you chose the +2 and -5 when you multiply them wont you get x^2-3x-10 instead of a positive 10 you were supposed to get by your first equation?

  • your second example is incorrect. it needs to be a negative 10 to factor like you did it. that's ok, it gave us a good example of how easy it is to make a mistake. :)

  • Correct answer, for those who care.

    (x - 1.5 + 0.5(√31)i)(x - 1.5 - 0.5(√31)i)

I hate it when people claim this cannot be factored.

    Complex numbers be awesome.

  • I live in Canada and I'm currently in grade 10. I just finished learning factoring trinomials.

  • @Naiuhz Really? I learned this a few month's make and I'm in the 8th grade.

  • he made a mistake, that +10 should be a negative. because +2 (-5)=-10

  • not to offend, trying to help, but at the end the equation was wrong, it was (x-2)(x-5) because +2 would equal -10 instead of +10

  • @FreddyJR5000 but then with (x-2)(x-5), it would not equal the middle coefficient (-3x), it would equal (-7x)

  • if you read this message and dont thumbs up my other comment you will die tomorrow trust me im a doctor

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaassssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRR GUY

  • thank you so much for this video, you make so easy ,my teacher makes it so hard

  • omg :D! You just answered my question thankyou soo much!!

  • is this high school math?

  • @freddyzcount90 yupp

  • Your a genius in my eyes!

  • you are my new favorite person!!!!

  • Good lord the second problem he did is wrong it should have read -10. Well at least I know what I am doing now if I can point out the mistakes.

  • (X + 2)(X - 5) = x^2 - 3x -10

unless my math is wrong Im pretty sure 2 X -5 = -10

I think he made a mistake on the second problem

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • nice!!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks

  • hippy

  • I LOVE THIS GUY!!!!

  • For the first problem. Does it matter where the 1 and 4 is? Love your videos man. very helpful and easy to understand.

  • OMFG! This dudes a genius! I'm passing grade 11 functions thanks to this guy :D

  • I wish you were my teacher!! u explain it so clerly! thank you!

  • umm.. excuse me?

    YOU ROCK :D

Thankyou for all your help! If only you were MY math teacher XD

  • In the second example, you end up with: (x+2)(x-5) But . . . when you do "Foil" to that you end up with: First = x times x = x squared Outer = x times negative 5 = negative 5x Inner = 2 times x = 2x Last = positive 2 times negative 5 = negative 10 Which when you combine the Outer, and Inner, gives you: x squared - 3x -10 (Not: x squared -3x +10) So the second one does not work out using (x+2)(x-5). (Or am I missing something?)
  • @TheMathStudent you are right...he did the second one incorrectly.....you cannot factor that example...he was probably making up the example on the spot, but instead of a +10 at the end, it should have been a -10.

  • Do you know what it is like to incredibly thirsty, and drink that gulp of cold water? That's what it feels like to have a good teacher turn on the light bulb. Thank you.

  • You are my hero. Will you marry me? LMFAOOOO

Just kidding, you're a great teacher and I learned loads from you in 3mins.

  • i'm sure you are just having a temp brain fart gameboytofou, but 5-2 = 3. :)

  • how does 2 and 5 make 3?

  • it took my math teacher over 1 hour to explain this to the class, and it didnt make sense at all, and yet u did it in 2 minutes! and now i get it! you are awesome! i have a math exam today at 12 >.< ill be watching your videos for the next 2 hours until i have to do it lol

  • awesome thx dude

  • wow, the bigger number gets the sign? I didnt know that my teacher made us guess and check the signs! :\

  • everything you say is so easily understood. my teacher knows alot about math but hes somewhat of a robot with a mix of a communication barrier. I wish i couldve taken your course.

  • AMAZING i finally understand it now. man my teacher suckz compared to u

  • thanks my math teacher couldent explain this as well as you in even 1 period

  • An excellent explanation, although he started with a false trinomial so it is impossible to correctly factor. He really needs to remake this video using a trinomial which can be factored. What he has here is simply wrong and confusing to people trying to learn factoring.

  • what if there is something in front of x squared

  • thank you

  • I Mostly Understood What He Said.

  • wow thnxx, but ours are a bit harder can somone answer this, bx squared-28bx+75b.

  • bx^2 - 28bx + 75b = 0

    =(x - 3 )( x - 25) = 0

    x-3=0 or x-25=0

    x=3 and x=25

look at the 28bx + 75b part of the equation.

you need two numbers that multiply to get 75 but when added together give -28. -3*-25=75

    -25 - 3 = -28

  • oh thnx man helped a lot

  • did u factor the b out or forget it? bx^2 - 28bx + 75b factors down to (bx-3b) and (x-25)

  • @prokravmaga54

    28x+75 is the answer

  • Simple mistake, but it was in such a way that he still got the method down for me, He just had to say it was -10. The 10 was not possible to factor for.

  • I go through 3 years of failed math class attempts, and frustration for the subject, and you make it "click" in 2 minuets.......if only i had you as a teacher. You should teach all math teachers how to.....teach math man...

  • He used "FOIL" = First, Out, In, Last.

  • Where did you find this guy! He is the best person at explaining this that I've ever seen.... Shure I learned this quite a while ago but you cant compare 2:51 to an entire math period...

  • I totally agree with you, he explains it just right in the end......wonderful instructor

  • At the end, doesn't +2 times -5 = -10? Didn't he find the factors for x^2 - 3x - 10? If so, maybe an annotation could fix it? I think the trinomial he wrote, x^2 - 3x + 10, cannot BE factored. Since it's PLUS 10, both factors must be the same sign, so you need factors of 10 that can ADD to 3, and there are no such numbers.

  • You are correct. The instructor made a mistake. The trinomial he used at the end is not factorable. I teach math and believe me, there are better ways to teach this. I teach my high school students how to factor using the diamond game.

  • At the end, doesn't +2 times -5 = -10? Didn't he find the factors for x^2 - 3x - 10? If so, maybe an annotation could correct it? I don't think x^2 - 3x +10 (the trinomial on the board) can BE factored. You need two numbers that multiply to 10 and

ADD to 3 (because it's PLUS 10, their sign must be the same), and there are no such numbers.

  • you are right...i guess everyone who's givin u a thumbs down arent thinking for themselves

  • In reality, his last example should have "no real Solutions"...because yes, -5 + 2 =3 , but (-5) X (2) does no = +10 infact it equal - 10...but it was an honest mistake on his part, hes still a good teacher

  • i meant -5 +2 = -3

  • Comment removed

  • bery good... but the middle symbol always determines the symbols inside the parenthesis.. such as your x^2+5x+4... when your first term is one you must find the multiples of 4 to equal 5 like you said.. but since it is +5 you have to ADD the multiples to get positive 5 and that means the symbols inside the parenthesis have to be +..

  • Finally I get this -.- my dad + teacher FAIL @ explaining.

  • WOW!@@! You YOUTUBED THIS!@?!@?@! lol

  • l0000000l

  • thanks

  • so 2x(2)-3x+1 = (2x+1)(x+-3)

  • No, 2x^2-3x+1 = (2x-1)(x-1). The 2 in front of the x^2 changes things a bit.
