Totally legal haha i did this on my 4.0 tacoma except it has a cherry bomb glass back and twin turbos straight on the y pipe. My check engine light goes on and off once in a while. I just pay for it to pass smog

Ya bud if you don't have enough backpressure your MPG goes down.

this is better than the stock exhaust but its worse than a good exhaust

in order for the engine to work properly and for you to get better MPG you need some backpressure so there will be more o2 to burn up and create into energy otherwise your going to be leaking some gas

I just got my buddy to put a halowed out glasspack on mine so it's strait piped and it sounds bad ass!! But I would like to do that with duals to be cooler.. And also our way the "REBEL CUSTOMS" way gets u outa a ticket and pass inspet XD it's so flipping sweet!!

get the 5.4, despite what ppl say, if you dont drive it like you stole it, you will get better mpg than the 4.6 and 4.2.

When I had my f150 I cut the muffler off right after the cat and put a turndown pipe on it. Sounded better and still passed emissions.

some areas like mine dont have certain laws about the muffler. when i enter a different county they might say something about it but i tell them where i got my emissions check done and they cant do anything about it cause its registered in a different area. it really just depends on what your area requires you could check around an ask an officer or something about that issue

Yup, that's why I just dualed it out with two aeroturbine mufflers...straight through and VERY loud haha sounds better than no muffler at all.

id ditch them mudflaps before they wear into your fenders like they did on mine...took it down to the fiberglass on the box and down to steel on fenders

get the 05 f150 O2 sensor if your tryin to pass inspection. cat, no cat, borred out cat w.e. itll fix engine light problem and after a while havin no cat without the proper O2 sensor will mess up ur computer which could be why ur gettin better gas cause it could be runnin leaner which can damage interals sumtimes without u knowin it

When you took the cats off, did your check engine light turn on, and if you take your cats off and run a straight pipe, does it hurt your engine.

putting a straight pipe on your engine doesnt hurt your engine but it will not run right if the O2 sensor is behing the cat, I have had 2 of these trucks and they both did have it behind the cats so I bought bypasses for the O2 sensor so I could take the cats off anyway. But unfortunately they outlawed the bypassers so now we have to make them.

all you have to do is get the 04 and up f150 O2 sensor. u dont gotta buy "bypassers"

wizarmoda's right its not gonna hurt nething.. but heres a lil somethin i did to get more mpg... inside the L shaped intake between the air filter and throtle body... is another L shaped tube... take the inside one out and ull add more air quicker... plus it whistles a lil kinda sounds like a turbo... haha

@laredneck128 oh and you could do the gotts mod.its like a CAI but for like 15 bucks don't know if you've heard of it.but i heard it can make your engine run lean and get you worse gas mileage.has that happened to you at all?

in the long run its bad because you dont have enough back pressure and can make you lose low end torque. you can get around this though by runnin atleast a 4 ft piece of 2.5" pipe from where you cut off the cat. doin this WILL not hurt the engine and will give better mpg and more horsepower

Wow, thats what I want to do to my V8 engine, but everyone tells me not to because it would make noise polution. But that sounds like a nice growl to me. Have you tried flooring the pedal. Is it really loud?

depends on what u consider loud... the 03 f150 is when they started making the quiet cab... so inside its quiet... u dont have to yell to the person sitting next u for them to hear u... lol... but on the outside its pretty loud

To start its obviestly Im sure i spelled that wrong a fact that its your choice on what you do but to put in my own input fuck the environmentalists and just do it. A truck is suppose to be about getting as much power out of it as you can besides more power means more torque which means more pulling and somehow and im not going to dispute it more miles to the gallon.
