  • Omg awesome, I've been looking forever for this, can you get the series on DVD?

  • This was my favourite thing to watch when I was young. My mum had to put up with me talking in a Welsh accent for hours on end! :-)

  • Transports me back to my childhood...agree taff1976..innocent & delightful , an antidote to adult cynicism & made me want to visit Wales as a kid.....went to the South first , the gorgeous Pembrokeshire National Park.

  • I remember little Ivor, all too well, has a child. Viewed daily on BBC, at 15.55 before the 18.00 News Program.. :)

  • 2:56 Ivor has gas. lol :)

  • shh cha kuff... shh cha kuff i love Ivor!!!

  • push da kuff

  • the colour of sadness.

  • I'm sure that even in Britain as in the US you used to have much better cartoons than today, I don't know. Thanks for sharing. Cheers!

  • I'm glad I was born in 1969

  • welsh tits

  • Train programmes were always the best. Ivor and Thomas FTW

  • Delightful

  • I enjoyed that. Thanks for posting.

  • This is brill.!! So many good memories of watching this on TV and of my childhood in Rhyl.

  • I prefer sodor than this place.

  • holy shit. MEMORIES

  • An absolute joy.

  • I recently found a DVD of all the colour episodes of Ivor the Engine and I just had to buy it!

I think the one of the main reasons I like it so much is because it's the polar opposite of children's programs today! Kid's programs today, like on CBeebies or whatever, all seem to focus on educating kids and everything seems spelled out for them but personally I feel dumber watching them!

This show was just telling a charming story that kids can easily follow! I feel sorry for pre-schoolers today!

  • Result just in........Ivor 1 Dr.Beeching 0

  • 23 people have no soul.

  • Loved this as a bairen :D

  • sounds a lot like bagpuss

  • Bendigedig!

  • My introduction to Welsh culture. And the scene with Ivor performing with the choral society has fuelled a question I've always asked, why are Welsh people such good singers?

  • Ivor was always drunk on the job.Pisht again, pisht again,he would say as trundled out of the shed ^.^

  • @TheThomastank1 cool, thanks for that

  • what a show this was my favorite when i was a kid couldnt get me head round all the welsh language tho

  • This is so awesome, children's tv shows now might as well be called Polly the Prostitute!

  • I remember not liking this a great deal as a child because the setting looked so bleak, but now, at the age of 18, I've fallen in love with it. :')

  • Wow, I remember this!! I loved it!!

  • 22 Dislikes - whats wrong with people? This is Ivor, from a time when us kids had imagination and knew how to use it.

  • I absolutely loved this show when I was a wee lad back in the 70s. What a great world it was back then.

  • What was the episode when Mr Jones was up the ladder at someones house and the woman was in the bathroom and she shrieked and closed the curtains? It made me laugh so much,

  • my heart swells when i watch these...im back to being 5 again :-)

  • lol, my name is ivor

  • so much better than children's programmes these days!

  • Your not singing, Your not singing, Your not singing anymore, Your not singing anymore

  • Not seen this for about 25 years and still love it now!!!!

  • evil

  • They should make a live action movie of this like they did with thomas the tank engine!, i wonder who could play the charicters!

  • @Loverboy19691 I wonder if Mark Heap could do a Welsh accent to play Jones the Steam.

  • it's a million miles from toy story .but just as enjoyable.I curse growing up,dam time n tide. I wanna go back.

  • Jones, youre a bastard. Ive just started sobbing like a baby as Ivor plays "Bread of Heaven"...

RIP Oliver, the day you died, so did my childhood

  • childhood memories thanks for the posting

  • wonderful

  • Suddenly it's 1960 again when things were simpler. Thanks for posting/

  • Thankyou for posting this - long time no see!

  • Man this is awesum. 1st time ive ever seen this. When did this series 1st start?

  • @subz555 there was episodes in 1958 but the main sereis was in the 60s

  • @TheJamesklok 1958 was the original monochrome run on Associated-Rediffusion. Postgate abd Firmin then bought the series and produced it in colour for the Beeb - although it was initially aired in black and white.

  • oliver postgate ..what an absolute tv legend..nay GOD...what fabulous memories

  • how can ANYONE dislike this?? it beggars belief. simple yet intelligent, sweet but ironic. TV has regressed in the intervening years, and so have people.. brilliant show, brilliant times.

  • Great!! Used to read the books to my kids, now my grand kids read Dylan Thomas!

    Thanks

  • Meirionydd a Llantysul is the name

  • @MiLLwallpaul231258 Ah, come on, this is brilliant !! (well if you're a child, at least !!)

  • Ivor............ my bloody brakes failed today when I went through a signal at danger. Good job I came to a halt afeter knocking that bloody Englishman over on the level crossing. Stupid tup.

  • brilliant takes me back 36 years!!!

  • How can ANYONE not like this? I feel sorry for you....you sickos

  • @taff1976 Some sad people are bereft of a soul taff1976, these jems from Oliver Postgate and Peter Firman are timeless classics which will remain with many of us till we take our last breath..

  • @frogstamper It's all so innocent..something kids lose all too quickly these days

  • psheee dee coff...pshee dee coff.... love it!

  • great welsh accent brill!!

  • Ssshhhh da kuff, Sssh da Kuff!! Ha ha ha ... love it!!!

  • @jamieb700 ha ha I was thinking about how I might spell this. But then saw yours.... can't improve on that.

  • Isnt it Ppppsssshh de kuff ?? lol, loved this as a kid,ive recently introduced this whole series to my kids, they love it

  • just had to listen to this for the vocal interpretation of an engine sound

  • This isn't epsode one

Sorry everyone but the first story is a 6 episode seres about how Ivor got his pipes

They were in black and white and they were very sweet

  • @cornishphilosopher - Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin reshot everything when the Beeb commissioned the colour series.

  • I so have Ivor and the Dragons and Ivor and the Elephant on Video

  • I always liked Ivor the Engine; these preserved lines should have Ivor the Engine Weekends, much better than the odious (and extremely expensive) Thomas the Tank Engine.

Actually I think Rev Awdry would have like Ivor too!

  • A favourite from my formative years!

  • This is adorable! This is a far greater alternative than that Thomas the Engine whatever-it-is.

  • im 8yrs old again.......

  • This brings back Memories. I loved this as a child and now as a Adult.

    Thanks for this Posting.

  • I played football with Jones the Steam in school :)

  • WHO DID THE SOUND EFFECTS?! They're HILARIOUS!!

  • "top left hand corner of wales" hahaha north west anyone?

  • 19 people dislike this!

  • Thank you for posting ,I grew up watching Ivor.

  • Watching this again sends me in to a sort of trance, exactly the same feeling as I got watching it as a child, just magical.

  • @Stozzler1 i agree ,i am 45, sitting here watching this!!

  • Shhhh t-chuff!

  • short and sweet. I loved this when I was younger, it was my favourite programme, The theme tune is awesome :D love it!!!! :)

  • who did the narration on this?

was it the same guy that narrated noggin the nog?

  • What year they realeased this?

  • Need to marry you **busizz4me.info**

  • I'm currently living in Australia & we shipped all our stuff over here. My 'Ivor' ornament lost his 'Idris the Dragon' in the move. The Aussie removal men didn't understand my distress and I have kept the inventory damage form that says 'Train has lost it's animal'. They have never heard of Ivor. Poor things. They think Skippy is actually good.

  • well, i always thought it was an awful name, and what have i done? my son's name is Ivor.... who says we dont change?????

  • Pssshtikoff.... psshtikoff... pshtikoff.... So many beautiful memories ^_^

  • My name is Ivor, I'm an engine driver

I know him well, I know why you feel blue

Just 'cause he's late, don't mean he'll never get through

He told you he loved you, he ain't no liar, I ain't either

So let's have a smile for an old engine driver.

  • You odd, odd, bird you ;-)

    Peace...

    - Thomas

  • Perfect. Just heart-rendingly perfect.

  • gutwrenching nostalgia

  • Thank you Oliver for the magic..

  • IT looks quite dismal and depressing I thought-having said that I live in Scunthorpe.

  • PURE MAGIC! : )

  • We see things differently with age and experience. 45 years ago this was just fun but watching this now, I consider how Oliver Postgate, like any creative person, draws inspiration from reality. 1) Wasteful use of expensive equipment and infrastructure 2) Health & safety concern raised by the working relationship between the signalman and engineer. Suddenly, Dr Beeching - aka the Axeman looks very different. Apologies for being a party pooper but I can see why the branch railways have shrunk

  • @maximumload6 you think too much lol !

  • I think you'kk find the motif on the driver's teapot is the fleur de lis, which is the emblem of the Prince of Wales and goes back to the time of Llewellyn (let Google be your friend). Wonderful to see this again after all these years

  • @criticalbastard

It's the Prince of Wales' feathers not the fleur de lys you twerp.

  • was Jones the Steam a puff?

  • OMG this takes me back!!!

  • cymru am byth.........my father's name was Ivor...from the Rhymney Valley. I have never seen this before read about it BBC online thankyou so much

  • if u look on 1 minute jones teapot has got a george cross on it

  • Do The Welsh Talk Like That? Evans The Bus, Nickolas The Song? WTF!?

  • "There's a how do you do ! "... classic !!!

I don't remember having my choir practice at the railway track... Health & Safety would have a fit nowadays... curse those bureaucrats!

  • diolch yn fawe iawn :)

  • god i love this show! it goes to show that everyday life can be exciting and fun

  • That end shot before the credits fade in set me off every time. It's beautiful.

  • Notice the delivery; crisp narration, from equal to equal, does not patronize the audience. There is no hint of breathlessly earnest adults talking down to children by yelling and trying to be "like them."

  • So cosy! I love watching this. I want to live in that little village.

  • Watching this makes me a little sad. We really have lost so much as a society in the last forty years.

  • One word: F*CKIN BRILLIANT! Remember trying to do me homework when i was about eight watching this at the same time.. I think the 6 o clock news on after.

  • What is the song they sing at the end??

  • Comment removed

  • @farmingdude "Guide me, O Thou great Jehovah"

  • @farmingdude

''Bread of Heaven'', a famous Welsh hymn.

  • it looked really grim. it always reminds me of teatime

  • I have some Welsh blood and I cant help but love this.

  • Theres lovely now. My favorite ivor joke is

    Dai the station. What colour?

  • 1:56 It's a backing signal! (Thomas reference)

  • So essentially the driver was fundamentally insane for talking to an object. Awesome show though.

  • @bassben04 hey, you would start to talk to objects if you were alone all day.

  • This was as good as it got back in the day, I loved it......

    Fantastic, thanks for posting.

    Dib.

  • Pshtikuff pshtikuff pshtikuff pshtikuff!! They don't write em like that any more. You can leave the Chuggingtons in the engine sheds. Give me Ivor any day!

  • Bassoons: your indicator of excellence in cartooning.

  • classic tv from the age of great childrens tv

  • "Give him a blow, Ivor....! Pull your little lever... we got work to do!!!"

  • Oh, crrrracking fly half was Dai Station when he was a young man, could have been another Garrrrrrreth Edwards lookyou.. verry sad, trrragedy that incident with the goat.

Now then when you look at it compared to more rrrecent rrrrrivals like Thomas or Chuggington the animation seems crrrrrude and it's very slow paced. But it still has a certain charm, isnit?

  • Ditto Anaksbane2 sept te result is a normal, well adjusted, politically incorrect homosexual male.

  • Respond to this video... Vernon Elliott would have liked that about his bassoon

  • @macronencer Vernon Elliott would love that

  • @ProfessorLegoTrains It was a bassoon played by the composer, Vernon Elliott

  • Nostalgiagasm!

  • Wow , that was the nicest five minutes ive had for a long while . Took me right back that did . Those were the days , jumpers for goalposts , dirty knees and not a care in the world . Ahhhh ....

  • @Washingpowder

Wow, i just posted nearly the same response on a diff video. Jumpers for goalposts! Thats all we needed and we were happy! Such great times and im grateful that i had them.

  • Heaven, pissssssssssssshtickor pisssshtickor thats Ivor noise I used to make when I was small.

  • Shhhhh tiguff... Shhhhh tiguff... Shhh tiguff... Shhh tiguff... Shhtiguff Shhtiguff Shhtiguff Shtiguf Shtiguf...

  • @BamzookiMan130 Hahaha see how we have all made our own Ivor noises, bless! haha

  • great stuff ledgendary this is

  • Beatboxing in it's earlier form, excellent Try those sounds out! Get the kettle on, love!

  • Jones the Steam :)

  • Who`s Coat is This Jacket.........

  • Same narrator from the clangers

  • Bread of Heaven this is. thanks from Terry the Spark

  • Fy hoff sioe pan oeddwn yn fachgen bach

  • Ivors driver Mr Jones sounds like maggot from the GLC. lol. I loved this as a kid now my little one can watch it with me too. Thanks for posting.

  • of we go Ivor....cheeshssss de cuff....

  • THIS IS THE READER FROM THE CLANGERS!!!!

  • @HeartBreakKidxX

It's made by the same makers of the Clangers, you pleb.

  • @xxeternalbeautyxx Dude, chill out, like I actually take interest in who made what lol.

  • Lets bomb Wales.NCP carpark for England! That engine driver-thievin little taffy git.

  • Great, but how wrong are the accents in this?! We don't talk like that in Merioneth :)

  • Oh wow this brings back some good memories! My saturday mornings are a child started with a double bill of Ivor. Then double Tales Of The River Bank. Then I'd go swimming. Ahh innocent times when I didn't have a care in the world. Kids are missing out. But let's keep it that way. A remake of Ivor would be a very very sad event.

  • @EternityInValhalla they could just re-broadcast them, so they wouldn't need to remake them

  • @12pokechamp Exactly. But as if kids these days would appreciate Ivor!

  • @EternityInValhalla i would. i'd record all the episodes and watch them everyday :)

    i love Ivor!

  • Thank you for sharing, what fond memories it brought back!

  • Love the programme as a kid. BBC children's programmes where amazing in the 70s. Such diversity.

  • What's this? A children's show that isn't promoting a range of toys! Those days were definitely happier, simpler times when children were allowed to be children. When kids' tv shows were not crude and promoted bad behaviour. And there weren't any messages about drugs, teen sex, condoms, or being gay - it is no wonder that today's kids are so depressed

  • "Is it early you are, Jones the Steam?"

"No, it's late you are, Owain the Signal! Pull your little lever, bach, we got work to do!"

Oh, I LOVE Ivor the Engine. :) Had forgotten just how lovely it is.

  • "o here's a how do you do " ...class !

None of your health & safety nonsense in Llaniog ya know or Jones the driver would never have been able to make a pot of tea !

    Fantastic !

  • Oh lovely. That's what children's programmes are all about. Brought back some good memories.

  • Never known anything to be so whimsical or daft... I love it.

  • I never got to see the first episode, but just watched it now and it brings back so many memories. It was a lot different to the rubbish they show kids now. It is a shame they can not still have these innocent animations and cartoons once again.

  • Perfectly true Anaksbane2, but its those same children who enjoyed this simplistic and innocent view of the world who now inherit it and what are we doing to it. Living out a self-obsessed fantasy where community and public spirit are lost forever.

  • Nice ol' Ivor. This is most pleasing.
