  • What is sweet rice flour and regular flour? Is that just all purpose? Is all these flour available at the asian market...b/c I have not heard of sweet rice flour before...maybe it's a different name.

  • @hnubntsavaj Sweet rice flour is also called glutinous rice flour, it's the flour used to make Mochi; and is found in most Asian markets. Regular flour is all purpose flour which I usualy buy from my local grocery store, but most Asian markets should have this too :)

  • Has anyone ever tried baking these? Does it turn out ok if you have? I want to make these but I am on a diet so I want to cut down a bit on the calories and want to know if I can bake them.

  • @trixiefly 11 will my mom made these when i was little so no worries just press all the grease out and a lot of the oil will come off and you are ready to eat them but i am not sure you can bake them because i might not turn out good but you can try deep frying first and then bake second and i think this might work

  • i have a question do u have to use both rice flour or can u use one

  • just a suggestion..can you cut your food so we can see inside? ie, the pork, sesame balls etc.. kool vids btw

  • looks great, thx for the recipe

  • i know this is a pretty odd question but can we make the sesame balls with all purpose flour? I am just curious because I saw a recipe that calls for that but I just wanted to ask you if this is only made with rice flour

  • @okamiheaven14 Rice flour is what gives it the "squishy" texture. If you use all purpose flour the texture will be different - more like regular fried dough :)

  • @AsianCookingmadeEasy oh ok. Thanks for the reply :D

  • I DON'T DIP MINE SESAME BALLS INTO WATER BEFORE I DIP IT INTO SESAME SEED THEY STICK PRETTY GOOD PLUS I DO MY HANDS LIKE CIRCLE MOTION SO NTHE BALLS WILL BE ROUND!! BUT GOOD JOB!!!

  • I know thats rude..but do you have a boyfriend/husband?

  • @Velcrol Yes, I have been married for almost 3 years now :)

  • @AsianCookingmadeEasy Crap!...oh i mean.im happy for you!

  • This is totally great, thanks for the easy, clear instructions. I have an allergy to wheat, so I look to Asia for recipes that I use with rice flour and are not trying to be anything "instead of" anything else.

  • Thanks for the great recipe. I love these and always leave room in my tummy for a few every time we go out to eat at an Asian restaurant.

  • Lol I've been helping my aunt and grandmother make these since I was 7 it brings back so much memories when I make these!! They really aren't that hard to shape and keep round btw o.o

  • They look so yummy!! I wish an Oriental food store was in this area. I want to try this recipe. Thank you !!

  • HI there,

I love your video, and you are cute too.....

thanks for sharing your cooking skill

  • Very nice!!!

  • i tired veggie buns before.. there great.. i dont know how to make them.. wa should i use to make them? help plz.. =)

  • Thank you!

  • Ihank you, you are so nice

  • viet sesame balls tht im used to idint have red beans, e use mung beans and i kinda dont think there's coconut in it....

  • Hi. I tried making these 2x using the exact ingredients and steps. But it didn't turn out right on both occasions. The water is not enough.

  • Neat.

So this is one different way to make the sesame balls. The ingredients are different since it doesn't have coconut paste added to the flour. Also, I use mung beans instead of red beans.

Sesame balls are good though. =)

  • Is this the same vietnamese type sesame ball they put mung bean in?

  • Yes, I think it is basically the same as the vietnamese type :)

  • Exellent job! Can I use ground pork or shrimp for the fillings?

Do you have a recipe for pork fired ball dumpling?

  • @trishg84 you can use pork. that's really tasty. they actually have a dim sum for that but it's not covered in sesame. it's delicioussssss.

  • I just tried it and it worked out great. Thank you for good and detailed step by step instructions.

  • In Indonesia it's called Onde-Onde, with some differents of the recipe.

Just search in youtube with this keyword "onde-onde".

  • This is good to know - thanks for sharing :)

  • @AsianCookingmadeEasy you're welcome...it's good too for watching your videos..make me hungry... :) keep uploading your recipes.

  • I live near to Montréal Québec and i eat to a dim sum restorant in the china town and i love the sesame balls I really appreciate this video because we make some themes diner and this week is asian cooking so i made the balls and they are really good and same taste the the one that i buy in montréal china town. Thanks and post some more... we like it !!!

  • gahh i'm hungry noww. i'm soo going to make this. ^__^

  • your recipe different with our recipe,we use glutinous rice to make sesame ball so delicious. We use coconut milk warm to mixture the dough, and i think the dough too watery.for making the balls we use cooking oil to make easy ur hand make balls.for filling we use green bean paste.......anyway.....great job to post this video

  • Omg, thank you SOOOO much for making these videos! I've wanted to learn how to cook this kind of food for so long! Keep up the excellent work! :)

  • My mom loves these! As far as the instructions, a good idea would be having them slowly scroll across the bottom of the screen or something like that. Thank you for this recipe!

  • I like your videos ... but I really dislike when you type the ingredients and instructions ... it just takes so long .. maybe you shouldn't have it being typed out like that .. but instead just quickly show it .. sorry .. some people like me don't have patience .. otherwise .. thanks for your videos!!!

  • Oh I know, I changed this in my newer vids :)

  • Hi and thank you so much for posting this video!!! I've been looking thru many recipes and it is nice to be able to see the consistency of the dough. I have a question though-why do you use both rice flours?what benefit does it give the balls in your opinion because most of the recipes I've seen only use the glutinous flour. Have you tried making them with just glutinous rice flour? Another question-do they expand while they cook? Thank you.

  • The regular rice flour evens out the consistency. If you use just the glutinous rice flour it would be too sticky. There are some balls that are made just from this flour and served with syrup. And yes these expand a little when they cook. Thank you for writing and for watching my vids :)

  • mine explodes as well

  • why do mine explode after frying?? at least a two feet in the air!

  • Wow - I've never heard of that ? The only thing I can think of is that maybe they were not sealed tightly :)

  • Your sesame balls look like they have too much sesame seeds.

  • Well you can always use less if you prefer :)

  • Thanks for this Tutorial!

    im going to try this.

I just hope that I can find the right Recipe :(

  • thanks for showing how to make sesame ball it really helps...thank you

  • I got so hungry...:)

  • 2:21 I think my mother uses lotus paste instead of red bean paste.

  • I think most people use the lotus paste - I like both that and the red bean :)

  • My mother can do them. I tried them two times in the past, all failed.

  • These are a bit hard - it took me a while to learn them :)

  • Can you put other things inside of them besides red bean paste?

  • Yes, they are sometimes filled with other pastes such as black sesame and lotus pastes. You can also leave them plain with no filling :)

  • hey thanks for the vid

    i'm hungry now xD

I'm going to make them now

but I don't have that glutinous rice flour or sweet rice flour

I just have glutinous rice can I just grind that with my coffee grinder???

is that the same thing then?

    do you know that?

would be nice if you can answer my question

  • Glutinous rice flour is simply ground glutinous rice. So although I've never done it, but I think it would work fine to grind your own :)

  • thanks for the reply

now I'm going to try it out

I hope it will turn out well xD

  • I hope so too, let me know :)

  • hii what is the exact measurment of the ingredients cuz it depends on what cup u use? thank you

  • When I say cup, I mean the standard measure of one cup (US). I'm not sure how many grams that translates to in other countries because gram is a weight be which each ingredient is different. There are calculators on the web that translate the equivalents - you can simply look up "cup to gram calculator." :)

  • hii thank you for replying =) thank you

  • Those look absolutely divine. I have always been curious as how to make those, but never actually thought of looking them up anywhere as i imagined they would simply be too hard to make.

For that reason alone, i am glad i accidental stumbled on this video!

Thank you for the very informative and calming tutorial. One new subscriber coming up.

    ^_^

  • How do you serve them? Could you post what they look like on the inside? I just had these at dim sum in San Francisco and they were SOOO good. they snipped it open with scissors before they served them to u so they sorta looked like a fortune cookie. I love ur videos and i plan on trying to make the bbq pork buns tomorrow!

  • I just serve them by themselves without cutting them. I usually just eat them as a snack :) Next time I make them I will definitly show what they look like inside. Thanks for watching :)

  • it really doesn't matter how you serve them, either cut or not. It just matters if the ball is good or not, and maybe what kind of stuff they put inside it .

  • she sound like a white chick from the south. by her voice, I would have thought she was a white woman from the south.

  • I am a white woman from the south - the only difference is that I'm half Chinese :)

  • I tasted these years ago but they had no sweetened read bean paste in them, and they had a syrup...they were served warm..a co worker made them.

They were so good. I'd like to try and make them.

  • I haven't made them like that before; but there are many different versions of these balls. Some are even boiled and served in a soup. If you look up "tangyuan" or "glutinous rice balls" you can find different recipes on how to make them :)

  • Okay, thanks :)

  • i thought sesame balls was just

rice and sesame seeds and you just fry it

  • I've never heard of them made that way. Maybe those are from a different culture. The way that I've always had the Chinese ones are with the glutinous rice flour and, sweet paste and sesame seeds.

  • They look delicious! I've never seen them that big! :∂

  • can the red bean paste be a subtitute for the chinse bun?? by the way ur amazing. lol!! keep it up with the recipes. my dad and i like watchinh ur recipe vids. ^_^

  • I'm not sure I understand what your asking? Do u mean just cook the bean paste without the outside? Thanks so much for watching :)

  • yes but can i put the paste in the chinese bun dough?? just asking.

  • Oh Yes definitly and then just steam them like you would the pork buns :)

  • Thanks a lot : ).

  • ThanK YoU so much....................
