Message to Masmorra 84: I also have played this concert with orchestra before: maybe you are trying to convince people who don't understand the reality oif concert playing that you are to judge somebody's fingerings as part of the real value of a performance, Pretty disonest ! We pianists know that each one of us uses the fingereng that works for us, what is to be judged is the artistic result of a performance, fingering is the way to get there not the goal.
@Kardos08 do you understand english? did I write "lugansky played bad BECAUSE of the fingering" ? Don't talk about things I didn't say ok? Think a litle before you say something...I said he played not so good has he usually does and I said his fingerings are odd. Two totally seperatly things.
Folks in the audience missed an opportunity there to be part of the moment -- I would have just whacked my left hand against chest or thigh in applause.
i must disagree with some ppl...i have already played the concerto with orchestra. Lugansky is obviously a fantastic pianist (one of my favourites from the living ones), but I must say this is probably the worst thing I heard him play...the first part of the Cadenz is really quite "normal" and some bad wrong notes in the melody...Besides, his fingerings are really quite odd...But like I said, he's an amazing pianist and I guess even guys like him have bad days...

If you ever tried to play this piece you know it is quite difficult. It is odd music, and it must have meant something special to Ravel. Lugansky brings out that specialness, There were passages I felt I'd never heard so clearly as in this rendition. Bravo to everybody.
What style eh? While it may not be the most exciting performance of all time this is a great way to study this wonderful piece don't you think? Lugansky takes it at a steady if slowish pace but the clarity of his playing and the clarity of the video too makes following the music easy. All those bass notes are crystal clear here. Great stuff!
amazing!!!!!!!!!!
