@Bikat0ru Yeah, they are! I'ts partly a direct result of the form he does here, thus the name, Iron wire, referring to the bones in the arms being like iron wires, or like rebar in concrete. He might as well have baseball bats for arms Lol
Hello, I train Shaolin Kempo, and cross train BJJ and Muaythai/Westernboxing for MMA. I don't understand why he laughs when he does his form? I never saw anything like it, can someone explain his laughing to me please. It seems so strange. I've seen this man before, he's the most famous for Hung Gar? I always see him in Hung Gar, but I know really nothing of it.
hmmm somehow weird stuff...kung fu moves are too complicated somehow. kids are good to pick such moves than a grown up man... i am doing karate, aikido, kickboxing, sambo from videos just to keep myself interested in physical fitness at the age of 32...whwnever i try to do kungfu stuff i am confused...
the reason they call it hung gar is that the controlled breathing and the fist movements like the wave of the hands help block by hurting the other fighter. this art of gungfu takes a long time to master. It will take the day you started to maybe a lifetime to master.
@MrHarrismarcel No, the reason they call it Hun Gar is because it is the fist (gar) style of the Hung family, same goes for Lao gar or Hop gar etc. But your observations of the controlled breathing and hand motions, and blocking power were all good ones! :) This guy is one of the top practitioners of the Hun gar lineage alive today!
@samuski36 i know what hung gar is it is normally called 洪家拳. I'm studying with my sifu Mr. Eddie lane. under a year and i still have many years to go to remember all the sets. I'm also learning Chinese mandarin as a third language. and yes chiu chi lang is a good hung family specialist. my observation is because i study a lot. if I'm to learn 洪家拳. i am to learn everything Chinese about it.
@MrHarrismarcel Nice! Sorry but I can't read Chinese characters :) I took hung gar for only 4 years, and I found that the sets are easy enough to remember. The hard part for me was developing power and applying technique, especially sparring against someone faster and stronger! However, I also cross trained in wing chun, and together they make me feel much more confident of handling myself on the street if need be! Best of luck to you and your studies!
@morganhodder Do I know you? Are you just a very insecure individual, or are you offering to put your money where your mouth is? Besides, what do you care whether I can fight or not?
The form uses the 12 bridge hands of Hung Gar. With each of these 12 bridges there are different sounds used, which evoke different emotions that effect specific organs and belong/correspond to a certain element. The different sounds used facilitate breath control and allow chi to be moved through 12 main channels (also connected with specific organs) to the intended part of the body in order to achieve maximum effect from each of the 12 Bridges.Hence the laughter, as well as anger, surprise ect..
It's to massage the internal organs. Whether or not it actually works is unknown. It could simply be mysticism. All cultures have it, but few mixed theirs with fighting styles and longevity.
It's a "hard" internal set designed to develop muscle and breath originally developed by a dude nicknamed "Iron Bridge 3" (iron bridge refers to the forearms).
The laughing is also good for messaging the internal organs and for regulating mood. One is suppose to do qigong in good spirit to bring in good energy.
I've been practicing martial arts since I was seven. Sometimes you just get so Keyed up You just HAVE to laugh. Mine always comes out kinda creepy sounding.
lol. How in the hell do can those people sit there without bustin out laughing. They would have to drag me out of the room because I would be laughing too hard to move.
This is a purely internal form. The noises he makes are to stimulate his internal, regulate his breathing and replicate the characteristics of animals. It's the last form of the hung system (some systems have 5 animals) and like i said it's purely internal and no joke. If you do this form properly on a regular bases your power will become something else.
Hes so stiff in all his videos weather hes in his 60s or back in hoing kong..you can see in this video his shoulders are up next to his ears, and he looks down constantly at the ground. Sorry to all the Chiu Chi Ling fans, His brother is the real thing. I dont know how the big changes in styles came about from his brother?but big difference
As someone who Teaches/studies hung ga I can tell you its not iron Thread (wire), he went into Seh ying after his Lung ying. In iron wire you have Lung Ying into the 12 bridges concept. But I get the feeling he was showing the vocal changes (Laughter, Anger, Sorrow, & Fear) of Iron/thread (Wire) while showing a little of sup ying kuen aka Ten Shapes Fist Form. So Yeah this is a great master showing a demo of some of Sup Ying Kuen.
I've seen the iron tread perfromed slightly different by different kung fu family schools. The same goes for the poisen hand set. While you may be right, it is true that forms change through time and interpretation.
All negative criticisms without substantial proof that Sifu Chiu Chi Ling's performance has been incorrect or impractical ! He's been exact, powerful, and excellent from what I knew and know ! Do the experiment of trying him personally !
He's in his 60's and he moves very fast, I doubt anyone would be man enough to face him. I would love to spar him, if only to learn from him. Yes I study Hung Ga as well as CLF.
Chiu Chi Lings Hung Gar is very stiff and tense..his shoulders show bad posture, his stances are very high for a grand master. the way he does this form isnt a good example.
When your in your 60's let see you Do a Sei Ping ma to perfection, his skills are way beyond a lot of people's and I will back him up 100% Chiu Chi Ling is an amazing Hung ga Teacher and an Amazing person. Besides he has his form to 2nd nature how about you?

Anyone familiar with the Chiu Chi Ling Lineage? I'm currently studying Tang Fong Hung Ga and i was wondering if there way any specific reasons that the Chiu Chi Ling's begin there forms standing without being in a stance? it looks less sturdy when executing techniques than if they were standing in crane stance.
All good in theory But unless i see some Results like 1 hiting a guy and beating him i can't be Arsed into all these styles (Not that i dont believe it could happen).
this is very high level system that is only likely to be understood just how high level by someone who has been studying for many years. nice to see it done to such a high standard.
He's actually giving a good performance in terms of an internal form and he exploded with power and control back in the day. Part of the reason for why some ppl might think that this is a bad performance is because he doesn't have a shirt on, and so no whipping motion is gererated, which most ppl mistaken for power and speed sometimes. Some ppl do good performances without their shirts, but most of the time they're glarring with peanut oil which makes them look bulky.
Chiu Chi Ling wishes lam jo crowned top of the food chain.. lam chun fai is the true grandmaster, this guy is a joke.. if you wanna see real kung fu and the true grandmaster of hung gar check out lam chun fai..
It's the same guy - Chiu Chi Ling (from Kung Fu Hustle), he's been in plenty of movies, to boot. This demo doesn't do justice to his skills unfortunately: it's an internal set which admittedly doesn't look like much to an outsider.
"i ll kick his ass im i ll be to quick for his punk ass to him me i ll be like ali on the move take a hit like robison and hit him like george formen bitch lol. I give him a front kick through the wall nigga"
No respect for masters or those older than you. I would really like to see you try that. I'd put my money 100 to 1 that he'd beat the crap out of you. He looks and acts a lot like Zhi Hua Dong who played Donut in Kung Fu Hustle and uses the same exact style.
i ll kick his ass im i ll be to quick for his punk ass to him me i ll be like ali on the move take a hit like robison and hit him like george formen bitch lol. I give him a front kick through the wall nigga
I'm not familiar in this style, but fyi, there r a lot of martial arts that gain their source of power from other than muscle. When one think of a martial art form, he is thinking of combat form, but a lot of martial arts forms r for practice inner energy, the movements and the emotions (noticed that he laughed for couple of times) r used to direct that energy to where it should be. (by saying energy, I think that it's Chi).
Actually, it appears to be Chiu sifu's brief intro to ng ying kuen (5 animals fist) & sap ying kuen (10 shapes or 5 animals/5 elements fist). The internal (dragon) portion is like that of tid sin kuen (iron wire/thread fist) but the abbreviated snake portion (and end of the demo) indicates that it's actually ng ying kuen and/or sap ying kuen.

Genuinely laughing is something we all do, and I'm sure translates to a basic chi 'movement'.

I'm currently studying Tang Fong Hung Ga and i was wondering if there way any specific reasons that the Chiu Chi Ling's begin there forms standing without being in a stance? it looks less sturdy when executing techniques than if they were standing in crane stance.
If anyone knows, i'd appreciate a response.
thanks!

The coolest! I've admired Master Ling since his early days of kung fu cinema. Truly great.

The Correct Form would be "Master Chiu".
Chi Ling is his first name, Chiu his surname.

He's actually been in several movies but not major roles. Most in old school martial arts films.

this is very high level system that is only likely to be understood just how high level by someone who has been studying for many years. nice to see it done to such a high standard.

@umhumgum
inner strength? IMHO there is way to much muscle tonus for it to be inner strength in the terms of neija (inner art), would you care to elaborate?

This is such a hard form to do.
