  • Was he single-stroking almost the entire time?!?! It looked like he had a french grip and single stroked most of it, to me.If he did...THAT'S AMAZING!!!

  • I wonder if he's cocky.

  • @tlbeasley He isn't, I've met him.

  • Man that was some serious playing and i think that you should try out for the blue devils...

  • ...( eyes melted), (jaws dropped down to the floor), (souless), (dead), (shat all over my pants)...

  • @Tenorcaptain777

Tim Jackson wrote his own solos.

  • How to people do these solos? Do they get music for them? Or completely make them up? I would like to know...

  • i have question, who do you think is a better tenor playor, Tim Jackson or Bill Bachmen? I myself am not sure.

  • @dylstick3

They both have a different playing style.

  • @dylstick3 Well considering Tim Jackson learned how to play quads from the book Bill Bachman wrote. (Quad Logic) I would say Bachman just because he has was more years of experience.

  • dudes nutz!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I've met Tim Jackson before. Really great guy.

Wow that feels weird to say.

It's like saying I've met Jesus.

  • Pretty much is of tenor drums. I'd say god but Tim says watching old school scv tenor line from 92. He calls them gods.

  • you might as well have

  • i actually got a lag in the sound cuzz he soo damn fast lol.

    this guy is sick

  • I think it may be because Quicktime vids don't convert over too well to youtube.

  • oh ok.

  • i think watching these videos has influenced how i write my tenor music and improv parts, its wierd but i love his style, its awesome

  • fast

  • Me and my perc. teacher watched this, this dude is awesome!

  • I swear he doesn't know what a rim is.

  • he hit a bit of rim in this one. and still won :D

  • All of his solos have one thing in common.

    They are hot and sexy.

  • and fast lol there all awesome

  • and he always has one mess up

like everthings perfect then one mess up and he recovers it immediately and then everythings perfect again. honestly i think he does it on purpose to show hes even more beast

  • I've seen music for one of his solos and it has written in it "Drop Stick" at a certain point. I am like certain that he does it for recovery points.

  • Where did you get the music? Lol.

And the points for recovery are smaller than the points deducted for dropping.

  • Points are deducted for dropping sticks but as clean and incredibly technical as he's playing, I don't think it affects his score as much

  • @BillXHETASXCook The "drop stick" is the thing he does where the throws the stick down and it juggles between the two drums. No, he doesn't actually write in dropping a stick. That's stupid.

  • @advancewarsaddict If he was trying to make the music sheet to sell, then yes he would write that because that's an important piece of it.

  • @advancewarsaddict Yea, but he did write a visual in where he manages to bounce the stick and catch it. He just accidentally didn't catch it.

  • @BillXHETASXCook could you send me sheets to whatever you're talking about?

  • @Tenorsarefun I don't have it man, that's my friend Joe.

  • at 3:13 it looks like he purposely drops it stick.

  • its a trick were you drop the stick and it then hits the drum like a diddle and he missed the catch after it so he dropped

  • were u supposed to mess up around 0:40

  • Lets See phantom do this

  • Because that is relevant.

This is an I&E. Although Tim Jackson is ONE of the best quad players to live. Not the best. There is always going to be someone out there to step it up. That person could be on Phantom. It isn't like they win best percussion every year or anything.

  • Ok that comment was for some people who were dissin me on other vid because i like BD and i saw their activity on here. I'm not dissin phantom at all. And i've never seen anyone play better than tim jackson on I&E (quint wise) Not just this solo but all of his.

  • Have you seen bill bachman back in his prime when he could do all of this AND more with a harness on?

  • Are there any videos of that? I would love to see those! Honestly not in the sense of the argument but for amazing quad drumming.

  • ... how?

  • YES.

  • 0:47 - 1:12

    WINNER

  • Watch the singles from 2:49 to 2:57

    Wow.

  • Dear god! that was amazing

  • BADASS

  • I damn near cried... this is too good.

  • i with you man. that was INSANELY beastly.

  • All I can say is GOOD NIGHT THAT WAS SICK!!!!

  • Chills

  • what a badass solo...it's music to my ears. perfect technique!

too bad he dropped that stick

  • awesome(:

  • When ever I watch this it always lets me know I will never ever make it on the Blue Devils.

    lol

  • 2:42-2:48 is sick!

  • those are 'quats' or somethngcause its 5 drums when teh quads have 4

  • quats? ..hmm..

well , correct me if i'm wrong, but 5 are quints (as in quintuples, quintuplets)

    and six are sextets.

  • in the words of mike stevens. "quads are quads. regardless of if you tack on a spock, 2 spocks, or 10 cowbells. they're still quads" it just refers to the base set of drums. hense the names drums 1, 2, ,3, 4. everything else is added auxilary. just to clear things up

  • doesnt really matter what you call them... the name isnt gunna chang em... some people call em quints when theres five... but i dont really give a fuck what anyone calls them... shouldnt worry about shit like that

  • lol

  • I'm not gonna try to be rude or anything here... And the one guy down there is right there are many names, but for percussion directors and performers they are usually called multi-tenors/tenors because of the higher voice they can produce. Just my 2 cents

  • whoaaa!!!!

    sick gansterrr dudee!

  • he's so fast you can barely see it when he drops a stick at 3:14!!! damn good recovery.

by the way. tim jackson placed 1st every year he competed in I&E. just in case anyone didnt know

  • i hope this won cause if it ant win the he got cheated 4real this is amazing

  • read the ending screen

  • o i cliked away before that cam up

  • how long does dis nigga practice hes live

  • Well, during the season, 14 hours a day.

  • fyi BD only practices a handful of hours a day during tour. most of their members are good enough to not need that much practice other than learning the show. this is why they kill everybody at the beginning of the season but lose to other groups at the end. cuz they put in a 3rd the time.

  • does anyone have the music for this

  • the music for this bursts into flames every time its printed. you dont wanna go there.

  • ....Holy fuck.

    Amazing.

  • This solo is amazing, but I prefer his PASIC solo, Rapid Form. I think it's more groovy, inasmuch as a tenors solo can be groovy.

That's not to say that this solo is bad. I love it. Tim has a way of showcasing his skill while performing more than just oodles of notes.

  • does anyone know where to get the sheet music? i wanted to make a lame attempt

  • this guy is my idol

  • ...did anyone else just see that, or is it just me?

  • id like to see sheet music

  • how does he make the sound that he starts at 1:47 ish.

  • He's using the mounting system on the Dynasty Quads. They make really good cowbell..ish sounds.

  • He can play single strokes like no other with RIGHT hand traditional. GOOD GOD!!!!!!

  • I <3

    tim jackson.

  • it looks like he is using all fingers and no wrist a lot of the time, maybe its just me. Very inspirational.

  • yeah i think he is. they play more off the head than through it.

  • They let the sticks do the work for them.

  • i have yet to see a tenor player as inventive and good as he is

  • Bill Bachman.

Tim and Bill should tech the same quad line. Tim would write the book and Bill would make sure there was no rim. At all.

  • Bachman is simply perfection of technique

  • theres an obvious reason why he uses excerpt from previous solos, all of his i&e solos had something to do with stop

  • speechless..

  • crazy mad chops...

  • There are tenor players.

    There are snare players.

    There are bassists.

    And then there's Tim Jackson.

  • Lol, come on... Lets not forget people like Jim Kilpatrick, Buddy Rich or Rick Beckham... as they all got MAD CHOPS as well (just to name a few). Tim is unbelievable though.

  • Yeah, there Is no forgetting those guys..

  • Well now...Jim Kilpatrick yeah, but Buddy Rich? Sure he was like the best jazz drummer to ever exist, but you can't really compare him to Tim or Kilpatrick. Two totally different enviroments, styles of playing, set up of drums, ages, etc. Not to put you down or anything, but I'm just putting that out there...

  • does anyone know the what kind of sticks he uses

  • Probably vega's, He marched Bluedevils

  • why is he such a beast?!

  • cause he's practiced all his life and hes on the BD XD

  • true, lol, and he has a natural talent for tenors

  • 0:47 is my favorite part

  • ya!!!

  • he's not human...

  • dang it! he had an 04 excerpt in there.

    i hate repeating solos

  • if it works then why rid of it? It must not be that bad or he would know not to do it?

  • His hands are sex (no "y"). This is incredible.

  • thats the 3'rd vid i've seen of tim where he drops a stick..thats reassuring. even the pros drop a stick every now and then ;). he still kicks arse though

  • He's kinda known for that. lol

  • yea lol, still, i'd kill to be able to do that stuff

  • Holy (enter swear word of your choice here!)

  • my god thats crazy.i might be able to do that in a dream in a dream...

  • is easy.....or not?

  • :)

    :)

    :)

  • i dont get it

  • Y cus yur a dumbass... its not that hard.. THIS GUY IS AMAZING!!

  • fuck you ,, video post please? thats what i thought

  • at :52 dos he play 5's?

  • nah schecter hes hittin it 4 times wit one hand

  • It's amazing how when I searched "tenor solo" it said "also try: Tim Jackson"

    THAT was freaking amazing

    too bad he aged out...

his hands don't play, they VIBRATE!!!

  • how does this not have more views?? its amazing

  • did he ever get anything but first?

  • 1;41-1;42 best ^%&& ever!

  • i'd like to see tim jackson and bill bachman playing together someday. that would be a real treat

  • finally a 2005 tim jackson solo video with audio that's in sync THANK YOU tenormasta

  • They're all over Vic Firth with way better quality...

  • That video is dope!!!!

  • ur moms dope!

  • hahaha...thats funny

  • between 1:40 and 1:44 he does some CRAZY MOVES with the sticks. HOLY SHIT!!!! Tim Jackson is the MAN!!!

  • The section you mentioned isn't that hard, I learned to do it just by messing around one night in the stands.

  • I agree with italia12. The section between 3:00 to the end is the craziest, and hardest.

  • lol retard, theyre sextets not quads...der

  • still a universal name for them. theyre also referred to as tenors. you retard.

    DER

  • lol no quad refers to for drums 'qruadruple'--four... dumbass.... and they're also called squints... re

  • tenors or quads are still a name for it. sextets for 6 and quints for 5. so back to my point. tenors and quads are still a universal name for said instrument. what else you got for me wonder boy?

  • wha?? shut up

  • They call them quads for the number of tonal drums they have (4). They don't tune the shot/spock/gock drum(s), which is/are the drum(s) in the middle (6 inches or less common-8 inches), they simply crank them really high (tight) to get that signature gunshot sound.

  • hahaha, i always that the name sextets or quints were retarded names anyways...i'm used to hearin tenors, or quads...just a universal name like jimmytango said

  • 3 drums are called tri toms, 4 is quads, 5 is quints, and 6 are called tenors.

  • 6's are sextets, sexes, or if the two spoks are 6 and 8 not two 6's then they are called sean vega six pack becuase he invented that and its sold as sean vega sixes.

  • Drumperson1 is correct. no matter the number of drums in the set, they are all referred to as tenors...

  • amazing!!!!!!!

  • wow...WOW!! =D

  • The most notes I have ever heard in 4:07.

    Definitely a quad legend.

  • Tim was in fukin beast mode!!

  • Man, This has to be his best solo ever....><

  • he probably WAS playing in the womb LOL

  • ur def. a genius when it comes to the tenors. i only been playing tenors for 3 years. looks like u been playing since u were in the womb. amazing

  • anyone know wut heads they use?

  • AweSOME OWNAGE, did he get first again?

  • he is related to one of my friends.. and i play for a DCI. if i didnt know him i wouldnt march for one... lol. i would of been just sitting in my garage wasting my good talent on nothing if it wasnt for tim jackson!

  • ..you play for a "Drum Corps International?"

  • yea but i dont get to see him much the last time i saw him was when i was at Elements WGI. played for cavies this year and im not sure if im gonna do it next year. but i did an audition form and all.

  • Hah I was ragging on you... DCI is the umbrella under which most modern competitive drum corps participate, so it'd be correct to march a drum corps instead..

  • WTF!!!!!!!!!! GOD IS THAT YOU?

  • he says hes in blue devils at the beggining dumb shit

  • Isn't he from the blue devils?

  • That was just awesome!!!

  • tim jackson is a beast!!on the tenors..

  • He is real sexy!

  • trascritions any one lol! man when i saw him live i was like D: Tim jackson?

  • Tacos are really... cool! XD

  • U think Bill Bachman could do that? I don't think he could..he'd get close though

  • i think i just soiled myself. i loved the right hand traditional bahaha.. *tear*

  • Yes, tim Jackson is the best quad player I have ever seen, better than Sean Vega on his prime.

  • He is the best quad player to ever live

  • oh man.. awesome!

  • Oh man, I love that part where he rebounds his left stick off the drum with the right stick right around 1:40. This solo is just awesome all the way. Tim Jackson, you're my hero

  • That's the best quad solo ive ever heard.

  • I thought it would be hard to top 2003's "Can't Stop" and 2004's "Still Can't Stop", but the tenor god, Tim Jackson, has outdone himself with 2005's "Non Stop"! Way to go Tim!!!
