@th3drow Its 204 Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM 1066 also, the 1GB that comes with it are those chips you pointed at iunder the peice of plastic.
the chipset supports 4GB (2x 2GB chips) but unfortunately since they soldered on the first gig, you cant swap it with a 2GB so the max you can install is one 2GB in the open slot for a grand total of 3GB
The chips that make up the 1 gb DDR3 ram are soldered directly on the motherboard. So should you decide to pop in a 2 GB DDR3 ram in that extra ram slot, you'll get 3 GB in total.
Now, is your wifi card half mini or just plain mini? From what I've seen it's a half mini. Also, what wifi card brand and model do you have? Is it a/b/g w/bluetooth (or without), or a/b/g/n w/bluetooth (or without)?
I just upgraded to 3GB of RAM in my Mini 311 and the performance difference is night and day. Even with Windows 7, 800MB of RAM just wasn't enough for office work. Afterwards there's no hard drive paging whatsoever and switching tasks is lightning quick. The Atom still sucks, but the RAM helps a truckload.
im not trying to pressure you, as i have yet to even get my system yet, nontheless the RAM. but remember, the ATOM bottlenecked everything from HD, to Games, to FLASH(flash gets and upgrade later this year to use GPUs instead of CPUs) until ION. i do have a source that i believe to be true on the RAM from that reported semi-subtantial FPS gains from going from onboard 1GB to 2GB. like 10-15 FPS. going to 3GB provided only 2-3 FPS increase from 2GB. i trust my source enough to purchase a 3GB.
Wicked news. I do think, testing games with 1 gig of ram is a bit misleading. I'm not an expert, but I remember 1942 on the PC almost needing 1 gig of ram. I would say 2 gigs or ram = gaming netbook heaven, but I'm still waiting to see someone do it. Easy for me to say...it's not my money!! heh.
i do agree with you that the ATOM is the bottleneck. i didn't mean to sound misleading. i'd take and ATHLON at 1.2GHz anyday over and ATOM and 1.66GHz. if this system had said ATHLON, most of these games would run without a hitch at lo-sets with a ION(9400m)! and some at med, fewer at hi
stam - maby but nvidia supported AMD before with the Nforce platform and in response AMD aquired ATI, granted intel are acting like pricks toward nvidia aswell but they're the lesser evil from Nvidia's point of view. hopefully ion 2 with via nano will be better.
keep in mind that when you add 1GB or 2GB the graphics chip jump from 128MB to 256MB!! you should see a 10-20 frame increase. the rate will sill fluctuate up and down but the min., avg., and max. will be higher.
mm probly won't give me that much of an increase, i thin kits the processor with some games like cs source and battlefield, ive played them with 128mb cards 1gb ram before.
2GB DDR3 204-pin so-dimm 1066MHz (pc3-8500). try and find a CAS of 7, it's the fastest DDR3 available and i believe the 1GB that is soldered on the mobo is CAS 7 too.
Thanks for posting the video - it's hard finding shots of the guts of the thing. Glad HP made it easy to get at. Just a clarification though, the 1GB that comes with the system is either soldered to the motherboard or is somewhere else? That's an empty slot you're showing? If so, badass!
Just got a mini 311 today, and I bought a crucial 2gb 200-pin stick of ram in preparation for upgrading it, but it doesn't look like it'll fit. The crucial 2gfb ddr3 204-pin stick of ram SHOULD fit, right?

would it be better to get the 1g ram model and get more ram, or buy the 2g ram model with a larger hard drive for 100 bucks more?

@fingersticks74
2g ram model is better. =D
this thing is a god bro.

@JinKazama92 What about getting it from the HP store, with 3 gigs ram and the n280 processor instead of the n270 for 100 bucks more.

exactly, the other memory stick is on the board

The other stick of RAM is soldered on to the board so it's not removable, which is probably why you can't see it.

since the hard drive is right there... could you replace the stock 160 gb with a larger 250 gb or 320 gb? provided you find the right disk size?

Ofc, or a much faster 32GB SSD which i what i plan to do with mine (as you can use SD cards, USB flash drives or an external HD for storage).

Is it safe to overclock the gpu of the netbook? If it is then how much performence gains do u get?
evilmagic43 2 years ago
never tried, probably wouldn't on a netbook, in any case the cpu bottlenecks the gpu i am almost positive so it probably wouldn't do anything.
