Thanks for this posting this awesome live version of 'Milk Cow Blues'. I have their original studio version, track one on their (I think) 2nd album, 'The Kink Kontroversy', but have never seen or heard them doing it live before.
I love the Kinks in the 1960's when they did their own music. This is amateur crap listen to Eddie Cochran's 1960 live version of it if you want to know how the song should sound. The Kinks and Dave sound like a bad high school dance band.
@ronct Yeah, Eddie's version is great except it's not the same song as here--it has different lyrics than the Kinks and a different sound. I like this, the Kinks were pretty damn cool for a mid-60s band and this does have a mid-60s sound, but they were sure cooler than the Monkees.
Aerosmith's version is great--it has a ramped up 70s sound and in no way sounds amateur, just check out the guitar and harmonica, and it's not even live. watch?v=Lm74cXOvYqE
Milk Cow Blues - The Kinks [London, England] - 1966 - "This song was covered by The Chocolate Watchband. This song was covered by many bands with good results." - The Ep Collection [07/10]: The Kinks In Sweden.
@navahero and Pete could play "Flight of the Bumblebee", a classical piece with basslines like greased lightning. He'll be sorely missed. He and Entwhistle were the two best bassists, IMO, through 1969 when Quaife left the music business. I loved the way Pete would play his Rick straight up instead on the usual 90 degrees. So many people have overlooked him because of leaving the biz in '69, but not me. RIP, Pete.
And THATS why Dave Davies is one of the greatest guitarists ever. Frankly, though I love the Kinks' music, I think it was limiting in terms of letting Dave show off his chops.
Does anyone else get the feeling that at 3:27 Ray is mocking Dave? XD

I wonder how many girls Dave shagged after this gig?

@TheMillionaire03 Hey, I think he used a Guild Starfire in early days. Later in the 70's he used Flying V and others...
