  • Top notch picking! Anybody post Fred Van Eps' recording of "Nola" on YT yet? Buddy Wachter is the U.S. master of this style.

  • That's why the word "beauty" has been created

  • Awsome, loved it

  • The banjo is a Pietsch MasterVox # 6, tuned plectrum G, i.e:- D, G, B, D, bass to treble.

  • beast

  • no usually i wouldn't like banjo music but this...this is simply brilliant

  • Hey, Sean, I've been enjoying the heck out of this clip for months now, and I've been wondering: is there an easy-to-explain reason that you tune DGBD instead of CGBD? Better scale access? More convenient for bass-strum playing?

  • Hey Sean that was amazing, I need my fur coat and some college buddies now. Have you ever heard of the Orlando brand banjo? I play blue grass on one and can't find out squart about this maker of fine banjos. This thing is an art piece. Anyway super happy tune man loved it!!

  • @DigDugMaster . Yep, practice lots and lots and listen to banjo every waking hour....or give me a mail and I'll give you lessons via Skype!

    Greetings,

    Sean.

  • I have watched this about 50 times now, and it gets better each time!! Absolutely superb!! You guys ever touring in the UK?

  • Your Great ! I live in Phila, Pa. and the Mummers String band that marches down Broad St. Every year play that tune on Plectrums, 19 and 17 fret tenors ! You remind me alot of New Years day and the String Bands ! Im thinking of getting a banjo. I don't know whether I want a Plectrum or a Bluegrass ? I currently play bass and guitar. Could you give me some advice ?? Your Friend Tom.

  • @tsoli1969 . Sure Tom, mail me and I'll give you advice on banjos and offer lessons online.Greetings,

    Sean.

  • I love jass-style plectrum banjo. Reminds me of watching my grandfather play in his Dixieland jazz group in New Orleans when I was a kid. Great performance.

  • well what can isay .brillant

  • wow, this is how to play the plectrum tenor banjo. AWESOME PERFORMANCE

  • Simply wonderful tallent and execution of the song!!

  • Wonderful Sean! I hope to catch you live someday but in the meantime I will have to download your CDs! Thanks for sharing you talent so openly!!

  • this makes me feel happy

  • smoking hot.

  • The drummer is Norman Emberson

  • This makes me happy - beautiful job.

  • A bit of Eddie Peabody and a whole lot of Sean Moyses. Absolutely wonderful! A great banjo show piece and I loved the little "harmonics interlude". Banjo On my friend!

  • U totally own

  • Best music in the world.

  • Nice

  • That was amazing! How is your banjo tuned?

  • Tuned as the late great Ken Harvey, plectrum G (bass to treble - D,G,B,D) .

  • @swidginn

D,G,B, D...like the late great Ken Harvey did...plectrum G tuning.

  • I've played tenor for years but now I'm looking for a plectrum. Sean, you've inspired this old man to try something new. God bless andthank you!

  • Please post more videos because you are awesome. Do you play tenor too or just plectrum?

  • I play plectrum - but can play a bit of tenor since i learned mandolin which is also tuned in fifths.

  • @DrWangMagicalSecret

Bit of tenor since I am also a mandolinist. I have a video on youtube of me attempting to play Tiger Rag but I'd not admit to playing tenor really!

  • I had no idea about this type of music until now and it beets any thing I have ever herd....amazing....I love it

  • boy does this video make me feel like shit!

    this guy has virtuoso ststus.

  • If I were there I would have given a standing ovation! Amazing!

  • Amazing work. Brings tears to my eyes, reminds me of growing up in New Orleans with my grandfather.

  • The guy is INSANELY good.

  • Looks easy doesn't it?

shows just how good this guy is.

    5 stars

  • It is true, that tie is awful, and perhaps this is why he plays so amazingly, to keep you focused on the music! I do play 5-st Bluegrass banjo, but listening to Sean I discovered a whole new universe. Bravo!

  • @Gnomusy

Since gaining my lady the tie has been trashed. Rest in peace old (awful) tie.

  • We like your playing very much.

BTW thanks for posting the hoosier´s video

  • I have tried a number of times to give this a five star rating but the fifth star is not posted by Youtube. Having played banjo plectrum know this is not child's play. Here goes another try. Neil Ostberg

  • The only reason I can see for giving this less than five stars is that his tie doesn't go well with the suit. The banjo playing is worth six stars.

  • the happiest music ever made -- pure American optimism, baseball, ragtime, dixie land .. we could use this NOW!

  • 5 stars for real talent Thanks

  • -He turned that banjo out! 5 1/2 STARS!

  • What ignorant swine have not given this 5 stars? Obviously people who have no ear for the music or who have never picked up an instrument and made some sort of attempt to make a sound with it.

As ever well done Sean. It really is a joy to watch and hopefully I'll do it in real life soon.

  • I know I hate it when people give under five star ratings for no reason on spectacular pieces like this. Excelllent + playing FIVE STARS

  • I wish you would do some teaching videos Because 4 string banjo there is nothing on the subject apart Irish tuning .

Best Wishes and great playing Nick

  • This is as good as it gets. Gets 5 from me. Dare is sum dum peoples in the world.

  • I love this stuff.

  • Sounds really cool.

  • "special" it is a wonderfull instrument.

    great ****88stars

  • I can't stop playing this great music.Does youtube provide therapy to an addiction to great music. Neil Ostberg.

  • Awesome. Bravo. Thanks.

  • Flawless! And it looks like you have so much fun playing.

  • Very good indeed sir. I liked that bit of prokovief you threw in the middle there- to be able to do things like that (and at that speed!) is simply awe inspiring...

  • hi from france :) awesome banjo player great i love it

  • The BEST version I've ever heard! FULL STOP!!!! Well done Sean, you're a legend!

  • What an incredible performance, man, absolutely outstanding!

  • Sean thats so good it sends shivers down my spine

what more can I say Superb

  • Sean's technique is startling, it's so good. And his musicianship is even better. What an artist!

  • Sean, I never get tired of listening to that song. Your the best

  • Ooow-weee! That one's reallly nice!

  • By plectrum banjo, do you mean a jazz tuned 4 string banjo? instead of the GDAE tenor tuning.

  • Plectrum banjo has 22 frets and is tuned CGBD. Tenor banjo has 17 or 19 frets and is tuned in fifths.

  • Thanks. Have you heard Jerry O'Connor? Btw nice harmonics.

  • @girlsngear

    Plectrum banjo tuning, 22 fret banjo with D, (Bass) G, B, D.

  • @seanmoyses - do you not play CGBD tuning?

  • @girlsngear

    look at this fuckin' elitist.

  • @girlsngear

    look at this fuckin' elitist.

  • Your video clip is great and I've rated it as awesome. Please check out mine on some 1920's trading cards of musical instruments, including the banjo.

  • great job, man!

  • hey what kind of banjo is that i know it is a vega and where could i get one?

  • Man that brings back memories. I worked at the red garter and Your fathers mustash.

  • You look like your enjoying that so much. Brilliant

  • Superb playing, a great talent. If only I would stop dropping the plectrum!

  • @anty66 Put a tiny amount of blutack on either side of the pick. It may not feel right for you, but it works for me.

  • my dad was an accomplished tenor banjo player but always wished he would had a plectrum instead. He died a few years ago. thanks for giving me a great intro what he longed to have. Someday I hope to get his old blond Paramount fixed up for history's sake. great job playing! thanks again

  • it's great to see you smile while playing those difficult notes because it makes the show nicer.

  • lindo!!!

  • awesome!!!!

  • Great playing, very nice Mr.Moyses

  • OUtstanding!! Okay, I gotta go practice now.
