  • I went to a Ukrainian Catholic Church for Liturgy. The entire response of the people, save for a few lines and the Our Father, were entirely in Ukrainian. I loved it so much (especially because I can read the letters of the Ukrainian alphabet and could therefore sing along).

But the Liturgy is not always in vernacular.

  • Yeah it's been the norm for the vernacular be spoken. Although it is common to find some slovak, Spanish, Arabic, or other eastern European languages mixed in the Liturgy.

  • Beautiful! The only Eastern Rite liturgy I've been to was Maronite Rite, though there is a Byzantine church I've been meaning to get to for a while now. Is it the norm now for the Byzantine liturgy to be said in the vernacular? The Maronite one I went to was a mix of English, Arabic and Aramaic.
