@parkesc21 If you google Burger Chef, you'll find a great website that can tell you all about the history of Burger Chef!I'm in my 40's & had never heard of Burger Chef until I saw these commercials on You Tube.
Is it just me, or does the wear and tear on the tapes of commercials like this (combined with the already sentimental nature of the ads) add a dream-like feel to them?
We hated the white shirts and black bow ties but then they came out with a v-neck mustard colored pull over shirt with a red button in dickey that left all the guys begging for the bow ties and white shirts. Gene, Burger Chef Crowley La '70-'73.

@lisanocsrrt I was also in these commercials, too. The football team was coached by Ron Schultz (our neighbor in the Farley subdivision), who can be seen at :22. I might be the toe-headed blond across from him, but not sure. We shot about 3 commercials that day. The other was little league baseball. The one I know is me is the crying french fry boy. We lived right down Girl School Rd and went to this location on W. 10th Street all the time.

Anybody remember the old mid to late 60's Burger Chef jingle that went something like "Burger Chef, a nickle and a dime, Burger Chef, you'll eat better every time".
I just read about Sopwith Camel on Wikipedia, and I was right the first time-The song "Hello Hello" came out before this ad. I never realized how sweet and lovely the song really is. I don't really like Sopwith Camel's arrangement of it-their arrangement sounds really corney. This jingle version sounds very sweet and gentle. I would love to hear the whole song played with this lovely arrangement and this gentle voice.
Sweet little jingle-igt's obviously based on the song "Hello Hello" by Sopwith Camel. Or is it the other way around-the song was based on the commercial jingle??
I'm the little cheerleader in this commercial, how hilarious it was to find this after almost 40 years and i still talk to a couple of the guys in this too !!!!
Wow! that makes you a celebrity! I remember this as a kid around 40 yrs. ago and they had the best burgers didn't they? I miss this place. I can still smell those burgers as I remember going there as a kid with my parents.
Ha ha celebrity ??? Not even close. This was shot in Indianapolis IN, ate at that particular Burger Chef all the time too !! Of course now it's a Hardee's (aren't most of them?)

If you look closely, they are eating the burgers right off the table - that is, the burgers were sitting directly on the table with no wrappers or anything beneath them.
Try doing that today & see how quickly you get samonilla or E. coli!
anyone interested in reviving this place should e-mail river west brands site
and let them know that you support them in their case against hardees and tell
them I want my burger chef. and let hardees know that your mad and that they should requinlish any rights of it to see case go to wikipedia and search burger chef and click the first external link
They're frozen hamburgers being put on a conveyor belt to be sent into the broiler for cooking. The hamburger meat is kept frozen until sent through the broiler to cook it thoroughly. The meat is held at the proper temeprature, and cooked at the proper temperature, to prevent salmonella. If the worker does what he has been trained to do, he will wash his hands on an hourly basis if handling food continually. There's nothing unsanitary about it. The city health department checks these things.
I once saw some pics from some old Burger Chef ads from the 60's where the diners wouldn't even lay the burgers on their opened wrappers, they'd just lay them right on the bare table along with the fries & eat them - sorry, but you don't have to have OCP to understand that's pretty unsanitary.
funny you mentioned zayre with burger chef. both are no longer in business. we got an artificial christmas tree at zayre's that we used for 20 years or better.
I didn't notice that until I looked because of your comment. You're right. The sad thing though...today, I feel the same way when a gang of teenagers troops into the local McDonald's (and I'm sure I make the same face...unfortunately!) Maybe just takes a little understanding for the little beasts...since we were all a little beasty at that age.
There is a company suing Hardee's over the rights to the Burger Chef. This company is looking to restart the Burger Chef chain. I talked to Don Thomas, Jr. a few years ago (his dad and uncle started Burger Chef in 1954). The family would love to own the name again.
Burger Chef was the best in the community. Always a sponsor for somthing important. The burgers also were the Best! I was in a Burger Chef on the northwest side of Indianapolis whe Dick the Bruiser was ordering a dozen burgers and five apple turnovers!
i am 42 and remember these in Lynnwood, Washington state, I remember the free giveaways like the toys for youor bicycle like colorful snap on plastic things for your spokes...hahaha! We went there all the time, great memories!
Forty-something here as well -- If I recall right, Burger Chef had quite a presence in St. Louis when I was growing up, and I remember eating there pretty frequently. I can't recall the quality of the food, but I was more interested in the giveaways, like the little 7-inch plastic "Burger Chef and Jeff" phonograph records (featured elswhere on YouTube).
Im 42 and we had one in Indianapolis. My dad would take us to Burger Chef on the weekends. They had the best burgers and fries. The burgers were so big, my little brother and I could never finish them so we would give them to our older brother. They were way better than McDonalds. Thank you so much for posting this commercials. I havent seen them since the early 70's. It brought back so many good memories. Man, those were good old days.
I live in Central Indiana, and where i live, we used to have three Burger Chef stores befor they were converted to Hardee's. Sadly, all of them are now closed, but Burger Chef was better than McDonald's.
I live in Michigan, and the "Burger Chef" restaurants in my neck of the woods were bought out by another burger restaurant called: "Hardees" (circa 1978). In the mid 1990's, "Hardees" was bought out by "Tim Horton's Donuts", a Canadian company, who also owns all the "Wendy's" restaurants in Michigan. As of now, half of the old "Hardee's" are "Wendy's" restaurants, the others are "Tim Horton's." Hope this helps.
I'm from Michigan and moved to Phoenix about 21 years ago. I haven't even THOUGHT about Burger Chef since then. Oh my goodness. I forgot all about Burger Chef. It must be an East Coast/Midwestern burger place. There isn't one out West. Can anyone add any info? Is there still Burger Chefs in existence? Thanks
The best I can remember...Burger Chef was acquired by another burger chain called Hardees around 1980 (give or take). At least all of the ones in this area converted to a Hardees. Haven't seen a Burger Chef since.
